CARBON MONOXIDEAND HOW IT CANAFFECT YOU AND

It is often referredtoasthesilentkillerbecauseithasnoodourortasteandcannotbeseen.Likeoxygen,COentersthebodythroughthelungsduringthenormalbreathingprocess. It competeswithoxygenbyreplacingitintheredbloodcells, thereby reducing theflowofoxygen to theheart, brain and other vital organs. In highconcentrations,COcankillinminutes.
Many cases of reported carbon monoxidepoisoning indicate that while victimsare aware they are not feeling well, theybecome disorientated and unable to savethemselvesbyeitherexitingthebuildingorcallingforassistance.Exposureduringsleepisparticularlydangerousbecausethevictimusuallydoesnotwakeup.
Symptoms of CO poisoningThe following symptomsmaybe related toCOpoisoningwhichallhouseholdmembersshouldbemadeawareof:• Mild Exposure:Slightheadache,nausea,vomiting,fatigue(oftendescribedas‘flu-like’symptoms).
• Medium Exposure:Severethrobbingheadache,drowsiness,confusion,fastheartrate.
• Extreme Exposure: Unconsciousness,convulsions,cardiorespiratoryfailure,death.
Your FireAngel CO detector monitors thelevelofCOaspartspermillion(ppm)intheatmospheresurroundingthedetector.

Bar Graph to show early build up of COTo understand the role of the productindicators please refer to section ‘CarbonMonoxideandhowitcanaffectyourfamily’onpage3.Thealarmhasabargraphwhichmimics the way CO levels build up in theblood stream. The response times of thealarm are determined by the EuropeanStandard EN 50291-1: 2010 so the alarmwill only sound when it has detected COfor a prescribed length of time, the higherthe level of CO the quicker the alarmmustsound. However with FireAngel’s CO-9Dthere is an early visual warning that CO ispresent.WhenCOisfirstdetectedthealarmindicatesit’spresencebydisplayingthelevelon the screen in parts permillion (ppm). IfCO continues to be present additional barswill appear on the graph. When the graphisfull i.e.the6thsegmentisshowntheunit
