CNN Spotlights ICLC's Veterans Work We've just learned that this Sunday, October 23 at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., "CNN Presents" will feature a story about ICLC's lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on behalf of severely disabled veterans. Reporting on the story is CNN's chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta. Dr. Gupta spent several days in Los Angeles filming interviews with homeless veterans and lawyers including ICLC's Melissa Tyner. The lawsuit contends that by failing to use the VA campus as a home for disabled veterans, the VA is violating the specific purpose for which the Westwood VA campus was deeded to the United States in 1888. The suit also contends that the VA's benefits program discriminates against veterans with severe mental disabilities. A robust body of research has established that homeless individuals with severe mental disabilities cannot access necessary medical and mental services without stable living conditions combined with supportive treatment services. ICLC's distinguished co-counsel includes lead counsel, the ACLU of Southern California, Ron Olson of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, Harvard's Laurence Tribe, Arnold & Porter LLP and ICLC's Board member and UCLA law professor Gary Blasi. The story will air about 15 minutes into Sunday's "CNN Presents" broadcast. Expanding our Board Inner City Law Center is proud to announce the addition of Amy Fisch Solomon of Girardi & Keese to our Board of Directors. Amy brings a valuable array of experience and talent to Inner City Law Center that will allow us to better serve our clients. For Ms. Solomon, it's all about fighting for the rights of people who have difficulty fighting for themselves. Specializing in areas of professional liability, toxic torts, products liability, and insurance bad faith, she has many opportunities to do so with great success. She is the Past President of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), one of the largest plaintiff lawyers' organizations in the nation. As a trial lawyer, she has successfully tried over two dozen jury and bench trials in State and Federal courts, and obtained numerous seven and eight figure verdicts and settlements on behalf of her clients. In addition to her busy practice, she is also a mediator, arbitrator and an early neutral evaluator for the Los Angeles Superior Court's Alternative Dispute Resolution Panel and pro bono counsel for Loyola Law School's Cancer Legal Resource Center.
