Mambalam High Road misused fordumping debris

Sir, Debris collected from construction sitesis being regularly dumped at night on the mar-gin of Mambalam High Road, T. Nagar.

This is happening in spite of a warning boardon the roadside installed by Chennai Corpora-tion.

The carriageway gets blocked, leading tofrequent traffic jams.

The residents of the street are also put toinconvenience.

I appeal to Chennai Corporation to takestrict action against this illegal activity.

Sooryan Basheer, RameswaramRoad,T. Nagar

Sir, Saravana Street (off ThanikachalamRoad, West Mambalam) is a busy street withboth residential houses and shops.

As the storm water drains have not beendesilted, water stagnates in the street evenafter light showers. After heavy rains, it al-most gets flooded and water often enters thecompound of low-lying houses.

The inlets to the drains are also blocked bydirt and other debris.

Due to the heavy rains in the past threeweeks, the street has been damaged as the topsurface has washed away. The street is now ina battered condition with several potholes andloose gravel which make driving unsafe. Pedes-trians, especially senior citizens, are affecteddue to water accumulation in the margins.

Adding to the misery, commercial establish-ments misuse both sides of the street to parkvehicles.

I appeal to Chennai Corporation to clean theinlets and desilt the drain, and also to relay thestreet. Choodamani, Flat A, Prajwal Apart-ments, 26/29, Saravana Street, T. Nagar.Ph:91769 79442

Appeal to desilt drains and relaySaravana Street

Appeal to desilt drains, relay exposedEB cables before monsoon

Sir, Despite earmarking of huge amounts forconstruction of storm water drains and laying/linking of pipelines to every house/flat inMuthalamman Koil Street, there is still no signof the commencement of the pipe laying work.

It has been reported that Rs. 3,600 croreshave been allotted for storm water drain work, which also includes desilting and cleaning of theexisting drains.

The recent spell of heavy rains has causedflooding in several streets in the neighbourhoodas the drains have not been desilted, which hasalso led to sewage water contamination.

Dumping of sewage in large quantities intothe storm water drains, illegal discharge ofkitchen waste and clogging caused by plasticwaste are the primary reasons for blocks instorm water drains.

Another hazardous issue that can lead toelectrocution due to water inundation is the EBcables lying on the road or the pavements.

TNEB should set right these cables and laythem beneath the surface before the onset ofmonsoon.

I appeal Chennai Corporation, Metrowaterand EB to take immediate action. N.Vijayaraghavan, 59/1, Muthalamman KoilStreet, West Mambalam, Ph: 99626 64766

Property tax anomaliesSir, To an online complaint on property tax

revision for the period 2017-18, which was inaddition to the general revision for the period2018-19, the Assessor of the Zone, in his reply, has stated that the complainant should cometo the Zonal office and submit copies of prop-erty documents, EC, EB card, planning per-mission and gas bill. If the above documentswere not initially verified, how did ChennaiCorporation arrive at the conclusion that theflat was let out by the owner and charged ahigher rate of property tax?

Now, for no fault of the owner, who is amember of our Association, he has been madeto visit the office and submit the documents. Ireally wonder what is the need for copies of ECand planning permission?

After all years of paying property tax hon-estly and in time, the complainant is still at themercy of the Corporation.

There are a number of such instances.Motilal Street Residents’ Welfare Asso-ciation, T. Nagar
