Part Ⅲ Invited keynote Speeches
Keynote Speech 1 Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology: A Gradient
Nanomechanics Perspective
Speaker: Dr.Elias C. Aifantis
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki/GR, Michigan Tech/USA,King Abdulaziz University/SA
Time: 14:30-15:30, Thursday Afternoon, Nov. 21
Location: Room 402, 4th floor, The 3rd Teach Building, Hubei University of Science
and Technology
Abstract The lecture reviews first some initial observations of the author and his co-workers concerning the basic deformation mechanisms for nanopolycrystals (NCs) and ultrafine grain polycrystals (UFGs). Then, their two main findings (i.e. the emergence of two co-existing phases/bulk and grain boundaries and the dominance of nanovoid formation and grain rotation/sliding as opposed to dislocation slip in the grain interior) are used to motivate some metal physics and strength of materials models for interpreting associated experimental findings. These observations are also used to construct gradient continuum mechanics models of nanoelasticity, nanoplasticity and nanodiffusion to be employed in relation to the formulation and solution of related boundary value problems at the nanoscale. Some new experimental findings on serrated stress-strain graphs and size effects observed during micropillar compression that cannot be captured by standard models are now interpreted through stochastically enchanced gradient models.

Keynote Speech 2 Improvement of Strength and Thermocyclic Creep
Resistance of Metal Products with Ion-plasma Nitride Coatings by
Pulse Technique Implementation
Speaker: Dr. Alexander Khotsianovsky
Pisarenko Institute of Problems of Strength of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine,
Ukraine
Time: 15:40-16:40, Thursday Afternoon, Nov. 21
Location: Room 402, 4th floor, The 3rd Teach Building, Hubei University of Science
and Technology
Abstract
The lecture covers the issues of innovative technologies developed by the author and his co-workers from Pisarenko Institute of Problems of Strength of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, in particular, ion-plasma coating deposition pulse technique, which offers a consid-erable opportunity for producing diffusion layers of a desired structure since the process of diffu-sion saturation is controllable and can be optimised depending on the specific engineering re-quirements. A short review of the state-of-the-art developments in this area is provided, which implies that diffusion layers with an ion phase (nitride) area or nitrided layers with no nitrided zone can be prepared by adjusting the composition of ionized gases and glow charge intensity. The proposed innovation, which is nationally patented in 2013, provides improvement of strength and thermocyclic creep resistance of metal products and is currently used by the Insti-tute for small-scale industrial implementation in domestic aircraft and machinery repair shop-and-plants. Problems of implementation in Ukraine and other countries of this and several other innovative developments in material science of Ukraine are also analysed from the standpoint of the author’s experience of R&D work in Western and Ukrainian companies, as well as critical problems of material science and industry in Ukraine, which enhance or jeopardize possible co-operation with international industrial companies and scientific community. Current examples of cutting-edge technologies turning into blunt-edge or cul-de-sac directions or pure outsourcing activities are discussed. The academic and R&D points of view on problems and perspectives of implementation of cut-ting-edge technologies of material science are also complemented with a relevant inside editorial view of the international journal “Strength of Materials”, which covers the material strength-related articles and is published by the Pisarenko Institute of Problems of Strength, Ukraine and Springer, US.

Keynote Speech 3 Recent Developments in Materials Science
Speaker: Dr.R S Beniwal
CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources, India
Time: 16:40-17:40, Thursday Afternoon, Nov. 21
Location: Room 402, 4th floor, The 3rd Teach Building, Hubei University of Science
and Technology
Abstract
In this talk, a chronology of development of materials with time has been discussed. Materials have been important part of our civilization. The development of materials from stone age to modern information age has been described. The innovation of smelting and casting metals change the way that cultures developed and interacted with each other. Progressive use of more sophisticated materials showed an innovative divide between people. The twentieth century witnessed a very impressive growth of technologies in producing ultra high purity chemicals, metals, ceramics, composites, semiconductors and dielectric materials. All these developments, based on multidisciplinary approach, influenced the world economy in a significant way. Starting from the basic concepts of atoms and molecules and understanding their important roles in imparting characteristic properties of solid, liquid and gaseous phases, exten-sive efforts were made simultaneously to grow high quality single crystal semiconductors and other related materials. The significant roles of atoms and molecules in imparting uniquely dif-ferent physical and chemical properties especially dependent on shape and size are currently be-ing studied. The nanoparticle size materials are very important and they have applications in every sphere of life including physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, materials science, engineering and technol-ogy. A complete understanding of the relationship between nanoparticle size and composition to their physical, chemical and biological behaviours is essential to use them. Hence, it may be quite possible to synthesize a material with desired properties.

Part Ⅶ Tourism
Yinshui Cave
Yinshui Cave Geopark is located in Dafan town, Tongshan county, the nuclear power base of Hubei province. Yinshui Cave is the first geopark in the province, with a length of 5,158 meters. The cave has a grand size and looks majestic. It averages 30 meters high and 25 meters wide. Stal-actites stand in great numbers in the cave, resembling realistic figures and articles. Yinshui Cave contains rich underground brooks and karst landforms, offering im-portant evidence tourism development and scientific research. Yinshui Cave gets its name from two streams hidden in the cave. Caves are normal in mountains but rare in river ways. Yinshui Cave has pure stalactites, with few air-slaked. It has a large number of vividly modeled sculptures, such as the “carp leaping through the dragon’s gate”, "divine boot falling from heaven”, “jade hare watches peaches”, “ancient bell in Hanshan Temple”, “stone lotus born in water”, “swan’s kiss”, “gold and silver waterfalls”, “immortal’s farmland”, “magical pen of Ma Liang”, “flying fox of snow mountain”, “lighting flashes and thunder rumbles”, and “Eight Immortals see a visitor out.” Yinshui Cave sights integrate the aesthetic beauty of nature in form, dynamics, color, sound and obscurity. Tourists may visit the cave in a unique way by going on a yacht to experience the mysterious cave and listen to the billows of the underground rivers. They may also take railcars to learn about the distinctive charms of the swiftly changing scenes in the cave. They can also go on foot to per-sonally touch the magical works of na-ture.
Materials Science & EngineeringJournals from Maney Publishing
New for 2014: Materials at High Temperatures
The Materials Science & Engineering Collection is a portfolio of highly regarded, peer-reviewed journals providing both general and topical coverage of materials science and engineering. Original papers and reviews report fundamental and applied research on topics from functional materials for electronics/photonics, energy and biomedicine to fabrication, processing and characterisation of materials to design, properties and performance. Our growing list in geotechnical engineering, water science and technologyand transportation reflects an increasing specialisation in engineering.
Materials at High Temperatures welcomes contributions relating to high temperature applications in the power, chemical engineering, processing, and furnace industries. The effectsof high temperatures and extreme environments on corrosion, fatigue, creep, strength and wear in composites, alloys, ceramics, intermetallics and refractories are covered. The journal has a policyof emphasising practical aspects and authors presenting results from research programmes areencouraged to relate these, if possible, to actual or potential applications. The needs of designersand engineers that could be met by future research work are also highlighted.
