The SEP Learning Session fee is in addition to the conference registration fee.

The Alaska Chapter will provide you with a learners copy of the ABIM module at the meeting. Participants who are enrolled in ABIM’s Maintenance of Certi�cation program can download a copy of the 2015 Update in Internal Medicine from ABIM’s website, www.abim.org , and transfer and submit the answers discussed during the Learning Session to ABIM for scoring. Participants will have access to a score report that con�rms whether or not the module was completed successfully. Those who complete the module successfully will receive 10 points for completing a 30-question module toward ABIM’s Self-Evaluation of Medical Knowledge requirement for Maintenance of Certi�cation. You must be enrolled in ABIM’s Maintenance of Certi�cation program to submit completed medical knowledge modules for scoring, feedback reports, and eligibility to receive Maintenance of Certi�cation points and AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.

Deryk Anderson, MD

DR. ANDERSON is a board-certi�ed orthopedic surgeon. After graduating Cum Laude from Utah Sate University with a bachelors of science in Nutrition Science, he

earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He completed his internship in traditional osteopathic medicine through Michigan State University/Metro Health Hospital. He then completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at Midwestern University in Chicago Illinois — where he

earned the role of Chief Orthopedic Resident. Prior to joining OPA in 2015, Dr. Anderson practiced orthopedic medicine with Advanced Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute in Hermiston, Oregon. Dr. Anderson specializes in preventing and treating sports injuries. During his training in Chicago, he had the privilege of working with team physicians for multiple professional sports teams. He has also been serving as team physician for the Tri City Americans, a WHL Major Junior Hockey Team. Although certi�ed and credentialed just like any other surgeon, he also has specialized training in preventive care and the integration of the body's systems to the body's natural healing process.

Bruce Bagley, MD

DR. BAGLEY is currently serving as Senior Advisor to the Professional Satisfaction and Practice Sustainability e�ort at the American Medical Association. Dr. Bagley is serving as Senior Advisor to the American Association for Physician Leadership on the newly minted Lx Solutions

project to bring enhanced strategic physician leadership to organizations of all sizes. Bagley is a nationally known leader in performance measurement, quality improvement and o�ce practice redesign. He recently served as president and CEO of TransforMED, a wholly owned subsidiary of the American Academy of Family Physicians. In that role, he was leader,

visionary, and key spokesperson for the company. TransforMED was instrumental in helping primary care practices across the country to enhance their e�ectiveness, e�ciency and capability. Bagley continues to advocate for the importance of primary care as the foundation of a redesigned U.S. health care system.

Keith Brownsberger, MD, MACP

DR. BROWNSBERGER is a practicing Internist in Anchorage, Alaska. He is medical sta� member at Providence Hospital

in Anchorage, Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at University of Washington School of Medicine (WWAMI). Dr. Brownsberger graduated from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1959 and has been in practice for 56 years. He completed a residency at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. Dr. Brownsberger also specializes in Infectious Disease. Dr.

Brownsberger is board certi�ed in Internal Medicine.

Todd Capistrant, DO

DR. CAPISTRANT has been a physician with Tanana Valley Clinic since 2006, where he �rst began attending to patients in our 1st Care Center, and led that department

as their Assistant Medical Director. In June 2013 he was elected and served as the Medical Director of the clinic. Dr. Capistrant began his education at the University of Minnesota where he received a B.S. in Biology. He went on to complete his medical degree as Doctor of Osteopathy at Des Moines University in Iowa. After completing his medical degree,

he completed his Residency in Family Medicine at the University of Minnesota-Bethesda Family Practice. In addition to his medical education, Dr. Capistrant received a masters degree in Healthcare Administration from Des Moines University in Iowa. He specializes in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine and Family Medicine and is board certi�ed by the American Board of Family Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice, Northwest Osteopathic Medical Foundation, American Osteopathic Association, American Fascial Distortion Association, American Academy of Osteopathy and the Alaska Osteopathic Medical Society. Professionally, his medical interests include Osteopathic Manipulation, working with athletes to maximize performance, back pain relief for pregnant women, and the Fascial Distortion Model of Treatment. Dr. Capistrant is one of three physicians in the United States certi�ed to teach seminars on the model, which allows for e�ective manipulative treatment for pulled muscles, fractures and frozen shoulders.

Jennifer Jansma, DPM

DR. JANSMA was born and raised in Montana. Inspired to “see the world”, Dr. Jansma headed West to Forest Grove, Oregon where she attended Paci�c University and

completed a degree in Medical Technology at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. Prior to entering Podiatric Medical School at California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco in 1998, Dr. Jansma ventured further and worked as a general Medical Technologist at the North Hawaiian Community Hospital in Kamuela, Hawaii. In

2002, Dr. Jansma was accepted into the University of Texas Health Science Residency in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at San Antonio, Texas where she completed a year focusing on Diabetes, Peripheral Vascular Disease, and limb salvage. Dr. Jansma then completed a 24 month Podiatric Surgical Residency at Scott & White Hospital, a�liate of Texas A&M, in Temple, Texas in June of 2005. Then in October and November of that same year, she completed a 2 month AO Orthopedic Trauma Fellowship in Mainz, Germany. After completing her residency, Dr. Jansma journeyed northwest to Anchorage, Alaska, where she is currently in practice with Dr. Heilala at Alaska Foot and Ankle Specialists.

J. Ashley Je�erson, MD

DR. JEFFERSON is a University of Washington (UW) associate professor of medicine and the director of education

within the Division of Nephrology. He specializes in glomerular disease, familial kidney disease, electrolyte disorders and kidney transplantation. He earned his medical degree and medical residency from Queen's University of Belfast in Northern Ireland and has completed fellowships in nephrology at both Belfast and at UW.

Christopher Knight, MD, FACP

DR. KNIGHT is a primary care doctor and University of Washington (UW) associate professor of medicine who is extensively involved in training medical students and

residents. He serves as an associate clerkship director for internal medicine students and an associate program director for internal medicine residents. He is also actively engaged with internal medicine teaching programs throughout the �ve-state WWAMI region.

Although he grew up in Alaska, Dr. Knight left to obtain a

bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in New York City, then returned to Seattle for his medical training at the University of Washington, where he completed medical school, internship and residency then went on to be a chief resident in primary care. His academic interests focus on how to train people to teach medicine, particularly how to assess performance and provide feedback to trainees.

He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Society of General Internal Medicine, the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine, and sits on the council of the Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine. He is also listed in “The Best Doctors of America” and Seattle Metropolitan magazine’s “Best Doctors” of 2014".

Julie McCormick, MD, FACP

DR. MCCORMICK is practicing general internal medicine in Anchorage, Alaska. Prior to starting her Anchorage

practice in 2007, she was working in Juneau. Once back in Anchorage, she became involved in continuing medical education which naturally evolved into participation in the Alaska ACP. In addition to practice, she enjoys teaching third year students and participating with the �rst year WWAMI class. Looking forward to a year as governor elect!

Steven McGee, MD

DR. MCGEE is currently Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, where, for the last 35 years, he has worked at the Seattle Puget Sound VA

Healthcare System. During this time, he has supervised the medical students who rotate through the VA and frequently attended at morning report and on the General Medicine wards and the Infectious Diseases service. His favorite teaching activity is bedside rounds, which he conducts twice weekly with medical students and chief residents. His main research

interest has been the subject of physical diagnosis, its diagnostic accuracy, and how best to teach others how to use it in the care of patients. He is a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and he completed his internship, residency, chief residency, and fellowship in infectious Diseases at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.

Patrick Nolan, DO

DR. NOLAN is a Medical Director for the Diabetes and Nutrition Center at Providence Alaska Medical Center, and Key Physician Liaison with the Glycemic Management Committee.

Gail Pokorney, MD

DR. POKORNEY earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and in June 2013 completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco. As a primary care resident, she treated a panel of patients at the university’s general medicine clinic for three years. Her clinical interests include women’s health and public health.

Dan Rossi, DO

DR. ROSSI graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. from the University of North Carolina-Asheville in 1998. He earned his D.O. degree with Honors in 2003, at the West Virginia

School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Rossi completed his osteopathic internship at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, West Virginia, and went on to complete his general surgery residency in 2009 at West Virginia University Hospital. He �nished his colorectal surgery residency in 2010 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. After

this, Dr. Rossi practiced colorectal surgery in the Geisinger Health System of Pennsylvania, until joining Alaska Colorectal Surgery in July 2014.

Jack Sedwick, MD

DR. SEDWICK, who is board-certi�ed in otolaryngology, is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist, as well as cosmetic and reconstructive facial plastic surgeon. He

achieved his medical degree at the University of Utah in 1997. In 2002, Dr. Sedwick completed his residency in otolaryngology (ENT) and head and neck surgery at the University of Miami. Upon completing his residency, he achieved a fellowship in facial plastic surgery at the University of Miami, and thereafter served as the chief of the division of facial

plastic surgery at the University of Florida. Dr. Sedwick returned home to his native state of Alaska and opened the Alyeska ear, nose and throat clinic in Anchorage in 2006. Dr. Sedwick consistently re�nes his expertise through continuing education. He frequently attends conferences and seminars to stay current in his �eld and provide his patients the most advanced treatment options available. Dr. Sedwick is also very active in research in otolaryngology and has published a number of academic articles related to his �eld.

Leonid Skorin, DO

DR. SKORIN is a consultant in the Department of Surgery, Community Division of Ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and is an Assistant Professor

of Ophthalmology, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He is a Past-President of the Minnesota Osteopathic Medical Society. He is a Costin Institute Scholar in osteopathic medical education and received the Presidential Achievement Certi�cate for his medical and surgical mission work in Ukraine from the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. In 2007, Dr. Skorin was named

Distinguished Practitioner of the National Academies of Practice in the Osteopathic Medical Academy and had served as its Chair. Dr. Skorin completed the Mayo Clinic Leadership Development Program in 2010 and a Master’s of Science in Medical Education Leadership through the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2011. He completed the American Osteopathic Association Health Policy Fellowship in 2012.

Tom Wood, MD, MACP

DR. WOOD came to Alaska in the Army in 1966, serving as the physician for a missile unit for two years during the

Viet Nam war. He then attended the University of Washington for residency and fellowship in internal medicine, returning to Anchorage in 1971. He was instrumental in developing dialysis and the paramedic programs in Alaska, and practiced in internal medicine and nephrology until his retirement in 2006. He has subsequently served as a

volunteer consultant at the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center and medical director for Anchorage Project Access.

His favorite teaching activity is bedside rounds, which he conducts twice weekly with medical students and chief residents. His main research

interest has been the subject of physical diagnosis, its diagnostic accuracy, and how best to teach others how to use it in the care of patients. Upon completing his residency, he achieved a fellowship in facial plastic surgery at the University of Miami, and thereafter served as the chief of the division of facial

plastic surgery at the University of Florida. Dr. Sedwick returned home to his native state of Alaska and opened the Alyeska ear, nose and throat clinic in Anchorage in 2006. Tom Wood, MD, MACP

DR. WOOD came to Alaska in the Army in 1966, serving as the physician for a missile unit for two years during the

Viet Nam war. He then attended the University of Washington for residency and fellowship in internal medicine, returning to Anchorage in 1971. He was instrumental in developing dialysis and the paramedic programs in Alaska, and practiced in internal medicine and nephrology until his retirement in 2006. He has subsequently served as a

His favorite teaching activity is bedside rounds, which he conducts twice weekly with medical students and chief residents. His main research

interest has been the subject of physical diagnosis, its diagnostic accuracy, and how best to teach others how to use it in the care of patients. He is a graduate of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and he completed his internship, residency, chief residency, and fellowship in infectious Diseases at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.

Patrick Nolan, DO

DR. NOLAN is a Medical Director for the Diabetes and Nutrition Center at Providence Alaska Medical Center, and Key Physician Liaison with the Glycemic Management Committee.

Gail Pokorney, MD

DR. POKORNEY earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and in June 2013 completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco. As a primary care resident, she treated a panel of patients at the university’s general medicine clinic for three years. Her clinical interests include women’s health and public health.

Dan Rossi, DO

DR. ROSSI graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. from the University of North Carolina-Asheville in 1998. He earned his D.O. degree with Honors in 2003, at the West Virginia

School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Rossi completed his osteopathic internship at Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, West Virginia, and went on to complete his general surgery residency in 2009 at West Virginia University Hospital. He �nished his colorectal surgery residency in 2010 at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, Washington. After

this, Dr. Rossi practiced colorectal surgery in the Geisinger Health System of Pennsylvania, until joining Alaska Colorectal Surgery in July 2014.

Jack Sedwick, MD

DR. SEDWICK, who is board-certi�ed in otolaryngology, is an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist, as well as cosmetic and reconstructive facial plastic surgeon. He

achieved his medical degree at the University of Utah in 1997. In 2002, Dr. Sedwick completed his residency in otolaryngology (ENT) and head and neck surgery at the University of Miami. Upon completing his residency, he achieved a fellowship in facial plastic surgery at the University of Miami, and thereafter served as the chief of the division of facial

plastic surgery at the University of Florida. Dr. Sedwick returned home to his native state of Alaska and opened the Alyeska ear, nose and throat clinic in Anchorage in 2006. Dr. Sedwick consistently re�nes his expertise through continuing education. He frequently attends conferences and seminars to stay current in his �eld and provide his patients the most advanced treatment options available. Dr. Sedwick is also very active in research in otolaryngology and has published a number of academic articles related to his �eld.

Leonid Skorin, DO

DR. SKORIN is a consultant in the Department of Surgery, Community Division of Ophthalmology at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea and is an Assistant Professor

of Ophthalmology, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He is a Past-President of the Minnesota Osteopathic Medical Society. He is a Costin Institute Scholar in osteopathic medical education and received the Presidential Achievement Certi�cate for his medical and surgical mission work in Ukraine from the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology. In 2007, Dr. Skorin was named

Distinguished Practitioner of the National Academies of Practice in the Osteopathic Medical Academy and had served as its Chair. Dr. Skorin completed the Mayo Clinic Leadership Development Program in 2010 and a Master’s of Science in Medical Education Leadership through the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2011. He completed the American Osteopathic Association Health Policy Fellowship in 2012.

Tom Wood, MD, MACP

DR. WOOD came to Alaska in the Army in 1966, serving as the physician for a missile unit for two years during the

Viet Nam war. He then attended the University of Washington for residency and fellowship in internal medicine, returning to Anchorage in 1971. He was instrumental in developing dialysis and the paramedic programs in Alaska, and practiced in internal medicine and nephrology until his retirement in 2006. He has subsequently served as a

volunteer consultant at the Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center and medical director for Anchorage Project Access.
