The Dewey Electronics Corporation –Military Diesel Generators and AuxiliaryPower Units (APU) for Military ApplicationsThe Dewey Electronics Corporation, apublicly traded small business concernDEWY, located in Oakland, NJ is a leader inthe design and manufacture of compactdiesel powered portable generator setsand Auxiliary Power Units (APUs). Our 2kWMilitary Tactical Generator (MTG) family isthe PM-Mobil Electric Power (MEP) typecertified standard for US Military use.Dewey APUs provide power for silentwatch applications and other custom useson numerous military vehicles.

Dewey also provides a range of supportproducts for our 2kW MTG includingelectronic control remote fueling pumpkits and tactical quiet flexible soft covers.We also provide various power distributionequipment and power managementtechnologies.

2kW Military TacticalGenerator Sets (MTG)The PM-MEP type certified MEP 95-501A(28VDC) and MEP 95-531A (120V AC) havebeen the standard man portablegenerators for the US DoD. Dewey hasfielded over 17,000 of these units since1996. These units operate on diesel 1, 2 orJP-8 fuels.

The MEP 95-501A (NSN 6115-01-435-1567)provides 2kW of 28V DC power. It weighs148 pounds with 4 hours of fuel.

Man-portable 120V AC power is providedby the MEP 95-531A (NSN 6115-01-435-1565).This unit weights 153 pounds and providespower for four continuous hours beforerequiring re-fueling.

Full rated operation within thetemperature range of -25° F to 120° F theMTGs are the lightest type classified, fullylogistically supported generators in theDoD inventory complete with fulltechnical manuals, training and train thetrainer support. These highly reliable unitsmeet all Human Factor requirements andhave an acoustic noise signature of 79dBA@ 23 ft.

Dewey also provides a 2kW, 28V DCgenerator that has been specificallydesigned to charge batteries. The DEWEY–501A-CL features a programmable currentlimiting voltage regulator that is customprogrammed for the battery chemistry toproperly charge unique battery types (leadacid, AGM, Lithium Ion, etc.).

The Electronic Control Remote Fueling Kitis a self contained system that wheninstalled on the MTG activates when the fuel tank is 1/8 filled and pumps fuel from an auxiliary fuel can or othersupply container to refill the fuel tankautomatically. The leak free design isequipped with anti-siphon, check valves

and auto shut off to prevent spills andfault, run and power indication lights.

The NATO Adapter is a recent addition tothe 2kW MTG accessory product line. Itattaches to the MEP-501A MTG to providea receptacle for the NATO plug. Thisadapter is available in a single or dualconfiguration.

Military AuxiliaryPower Units (APU)

Dewey is ever increasing our standardproduct line for APUs for militaryapplications. Additionally, we providecustomized APUs for unique applicationsin small and large quantities. Ourengineering staff will work with you toprovide the optimum solution to yourauxiliary power generation needs.

Battery ChargerAuxiliary Power Unit

(BAPU)Selected by the USMC, our open framegenerator set provides a full 4.5kW militaryrated 28VDC power supply suitable forvehicle APU use and battery chargingunder extreme temperatures. The unitfeatures a current limiting programmablevoltage regulator, redundant local andremote controls, and a self bleeding fuelsystem for vehicle or remote fuel tankinterconnections. Based on our 2kWmilitary heritage, this unit provides asimple power source that is lightweight yethighly reliable and easy to maintain.

Enclosed VehiclePower Supply (EVPS)

Recently selected by the USMC, this APUcan be mounting in three positions (top,bottom and side) for optimum vehicleinstallations. The enclosed air cooledgenerator provides 4.0kW of 28V DC at 70°F and operates from -40° F to 130° F. The APU features a current limitingprogrammable voltage regulator that cancharge various battery chemistries,redundant local and customized remotecontrols, and a self bleeding fuel system for vehicle or remote fuel tankinterconnections. The engine operates ondiesel and JP-8 fuels. This enclosed unit hasa noise signature of less than 70dBA at 7 meters.

5kVA AC AuxiliaryPower Unit

Developed initially to support one of ourdefense contractors on an USMC program,this open frame APU provides 240V, 60Hz,single phase power that can be used formotor or pump applications. An enhancedair filter system is provided for operationin a sandy and dusty environment. The unitis available to provide 120V, 60Hz, singlephase power and also 3-phase outputs involtages of 120 or 240. Optionalequipment includes a cold weatherstarting kit and remote control panel.

Custom Generatorand Auxiliary Power

Unit (APU)Dewey provides custom designed, fullmilitary rated generators, and auxiliarypower units that range in output from2.0kW to 10kW and provide 28V DC, 120VAC and 240VAC power. We offer remotestart/stop capabilities, automatic start andstop for battery charging and provideenclosures that reduce the unit’s noisesignature to levels as low as 63dBA at 6

meters. These generators and APUs isavailable in open frame or enclosedconfigurations directly from The DeweyElectronics Corporation. Dewey canprovide full engineering design,manufacturing, test and integrationsupport for all your power generationneeds.

Power Distributionand Power

ManagementPower management and powercontrol/conversion technologies areavailable from Dewey. We have developedautomatic load banks that monitor andautomatically switch loads on and off thegenerators to prevent “wet stacking”. Ourpower converters (dc to dc) and inverterand control logic have been successfullyemployed in our other products.

We also offer control and monitoringdesigns for unique power applications suchas pumps, motors, fuel cells/reformersand power electronics for militaryapplications.

Hybrid and RenewablePower Systems

Dewey Electronics has been integratinghybrid power into portable modular systemsand now is providing trailer based powersystems and hybrid generators for defensecontractors that are integrated into theirsystems. These hybrid systems are capableof incorporating renewable power such assolar and wind.

Portable Hybrid PowerSystem

This system incorporates battery storage witha rugged inverter that is coupled with ourbattery charging 4.5kW 28V DC generatorand packaged in man-portable containers. Itprovides the warfighter with a hybrid systemthat is capable of fuel savings of up to 50%when compared to standard generators.Introduce solar or wind and the fuel savingcan be as much as 70%.

The enclosed 2kW Hybrid Generatorprovides 28V DC power to charge system


batteries. The generator controller featurescurrent limiting, battery charging and batterymonitoring auto start and stop digitalcontrols. The enclosed unit is suitable fortrailer mounting and provides a digital databus for remote monitoring and control.

Modular HybridElectrical PowerSystem (MHEPS)

Dewey Electronics and its partners, EssenceSolar, Silver Eagle Manufacturing Company,and EnerSys, have produced a demonstrationhybrid platform that incorporates solargenerated electricity, an integrated backupmilitary tactical generator, and batterystorage all on a standard Lightweight TacticalTrailer (LTT). This system features a patentpending dual axis solar tracker with HighConcentration Photo Voltaic solar panelsthat provide 25% more solar power thanstandard flat solar panels.

The solar system, known as the Sun Spider,was developed by Essence Solar. It featuresa 48V battery storage system (EnerSys) with

battery charger, inverters, and a controlsystem that allows the deployment of thesolar panels, automatic tracking of the sunwithout the need for GPS coordinates, and awind sensor that automatically folds thesolar panels into a safe position when windspeeds exceed safe operational parameters.

The trailer based system is HMMWV towableand designed for austere environments. It iscapable of operating solely in a solar modeas successfully demonstrated at ExFOB 2011,as a hybrid system with the backup generator,or tied to grid power. This system can bedeployed by two individuals in less than 30minutes and provides significant reductionsin fossil fuel use when compared to standardgenerators of equivalent power outputs.

The current demonstrator is mounted onSilver Eagle’s LTT with no modifications tothe trailer. Dewey’s 2kW Military TacticalGenerator is also transported on the trailerand then placed on the ground for operationas the backup generator. It is commandedon when the batteries require charging andthe Sun Spider cannot provide the powerneeded to charge due to time of day,weather conditions, or power demand.

5 September 2012: The French navy’s elitecommando force - Les Commandos Marine– has adopted the Avon ST53 as their maskand respiratory system of choice for CBRNthreats when undertaking high risk shipboarding operations.

A recently posted “You Tube” training clipshows the commandos in action undertakinga series of marine boarding exercises inpreparation for anti-drug smuggling or piracythreats. Included is a task force masking up

to foil a suspected CBRN terrorist threat andto confront and apprehend the operators.

The Avon ST53 was chosen for the Frenchcommando force with good reason as itcombines Avon Protection's FM53 masktechnology with an advanced modularbreathing apparatus. This enables positivepressure SCBA and/or PAPR capability forspecialist operations, particularly wherestealth is paramount for marine boardingactivities.

purposes. First and foremost, when placedabove a shelter, the solar shade significantlyreduces heat load within, helping troops tofight off the effects of heat exposure. Pre-attached collapsible supports keep the SolarShade elevated 12 inches from the shelter’ssurface, which maximizes shade efficacy andenables continuous airflow. The open-knitted material integrated within the solarshade allows for breezes to freely passthrough the shade, maintaining a morecomfortable temperature for militarypersonnel inside the shelter. The MX SolarShade also protects from harmful UVA raysand UVB rays. UVA is blocked atapproximately 86.3%, or 320-400 nm andUVB at approximately 84.3%, or 280-320 nm.An MX Solar Shade covering the MX Shelterprovides an 85% Shading Factor resulting ina 15°F to 20°F temperature differential.

Typhoon InternationalMilitary Wetsuit –Raptor 7/5/4 andPro II Fins

I came across the company TyphoonInternational many years ago when on adiving trip, my instructor was using acommercial typhoon wetsuit. He ravedabout it at the time and I thought nothingmore of it until recently when I was asked toreview the Raptor 7/5/4 wetsuit and theirlatest Pro II fins for myself and theirsuitability to military applications.

After doing a bit of research on TyphoonInternational, I was further excited about theopportunity as the original company wasfounded over 60 years ago and by one of thefounders of the world famous British SubAqua Club (this grew to be the largest divingclub in the world). So I knew that being diversthemselves they would understand thestresses and strains put on Military Diversand therefore I was hoping for a successfultest....

The HHPTD, sponsored by the U.S.Army Rapid Equipping Force (REF), providesdismounted observers the ability to rapidlylocate ground targets with a high degree ofaccuracy allowing target engagement withprecision munitions.

As part of the HHPTD program, Vectronixwill also deliver an equal amount of STERNAPrecision Target Location Systems. The

STERNA system is based on Vectronix’ newand unrestricted capability to acquire andmaintain the true north azimuth in alloperating conditions, even in magneticallycharged or GPS-denied settings. The system,already tested by the U.S. Army, provides anazimuth accuracy far exceeding thatachieved by the current systems used by theMilitary.

Survitec is Key British Supplierto The First F-35 Delivery ToThe UK Ministry Of DefenceThe United Kingdom recently accepted thefirst international Lockheed Martin F-35Lightning II in a ceremony with seniorrepresentatives of the U.K. Ministry ofDefence and the U.S. Department ofDefense. Survitec Group is one of a numberof select British suppliers and partners andwas chosen to provide the below neck pilotflight equipment, pilot cooler unit, singleperson life raft and additionally the provisionof Pilot Fitting facilities.

The F-35 is being developed with LockheedMartin and its industrial partners, NorthropGrumman and BAE Systems. Survitec Grouphas worked very closely with LockheedMartin to ensure the provision of a fully

integrated yet modular clothing systemdesigned to improve pilot performance andoperational effectiveness.

About the programmeThe U.K. was the first of eight international

partners to join the F-35 program and plans

to acquire the F-35B short take off and

vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft. The U.K. will

play a vital role in the F-35’s global

production, follow-on development and

sustainment over the next 40 years, bringing

strong economic benefits to the country.

The F-35 Lightning II is a 5th Generation

fighter, combining advanced stealth with

fighter speed and agility, fully fused sensor

information, network-enabled operations

and advanced sustainment. Three distinct

variants of the F-35 will replace the A-10 and

F-16 for the U.S. Air Force, the F/A-18 for the

U.S. Navy, the F/A-18 and AV8-B Harrier for

the U.S. Marine Corps, and a variety of

fighters for at least 10 other countries.
