Highlights from our March meeting……. Attendance: 19

Meeting was called to order by President Jim Frees WW7DD There was a quorum of Officers present. Minutes of the February meeting were read and accepted.

Treasurer's Report – Randy N7CKJ $ 8,477.86

ARES Report – Bert N7YPP – Dave WD7K and Bert have a meeting scheduled with the new Stevens County Emergency Manager, Jim Caruso on March 22, 2017. This meeting will clarity the local ARES organization’s position with the County. If the County does not desire the services of ARES, maybe the Red Cross or some other agency could put it to use. Jim WW7DD asked about upcoming training plans for ARES and Bert N7YPP reiterated that Field Day was the most obvious activity for now. He also mentioned the desire for more technical training, but first, instructors, or materials would need to be located. Jim W7JWT reminded us of ARRL and Bruce KC7H mentioned “Core Competency”, which could be found online. Bert N7YPP mentioned the FEMA publication, AUXFOG (Auxiliary Field Operations Guide), also available online. This guide could be used for some upcoming ARES training.

PARC Net – George W7WBN – Operators have improved and has about 21 participants checking in. Board Report – Bruce KC7H – The board meeting last month discussed the annual report that was

released. Jim WW7DD had an item to discuss, so a short board meeting will follow the annual auction. Announcements: Randy N7CKJ is collecting dues, has HRO tickets and club patches for sale. Baron KI7FDU asked if the HRO gift certificate had been purchased yet, Randy N7CKJ stated it had not. Jack KD0AOM stated that he is still looking for a tower and gave his phone number for anyone that might

know of one. A 40’ tower, self-supporting unit is desired. John KL7LL mentioned that he has heard from Jerry AE7KI, who would like to contact some of our local

members on HF. See John ([email protected]).

Old Business: Field Day was mentioned, but it was decided to hold off until next month meeting. Bruce KC7H

mentioned that there were no updates on the repeater linking project at this time. Bruce KC7H brought up again about sending Jim WW7DD an email about issues to discuss at any

upcoming meeting. This way the President can allot time during a particular meeting.

New Business: Bruce KC7H spoke to Sam Jenkins, and he is looking for an instructor to teach a Technician class at the

upcoming SAR Conference in Republic, on Thursday May 18th. Any interested parties should contact either Bruce ([email protected] or Bert ([email protected]) .

Not sure about your club Dues status – contact Lauren KL1LC ([email protected]). Bruce KC7H mentioned that some members felt that our meetings do not give sufficient time for them to

get their ideas out in the open. He also gave a short presentation on “vector force” when using rope to support antennas and such. Michael KF7SYS also mentioned using a tennis ball launcher to place support ropes for antennas. He also went on to discuss the construction and cost of such a launcher and offered to bring his to display at a future meeting.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:28pm. Respectfully submitted by: Randy Jones, N7CKJ Secretary

The PARC Sunday Night Net continues to be a mainstay of the organization

Many thanks for your continuing professional support. With your help, and that of the

members and visitors checking in, it made for a very pleasant Sunday evening.

This year we have had a splurge of new Hams in this area getting their license. Please

encourage them to check in on the Sunday Night Net and get some local operating

experience. Remind them that they do not have to be members of the PARC to check in.

Bert Wasson ARES

Stevens County is in the process of updating the Stevens County Comprehensive

Emergency Management Plan. This plan is composed of sixteen Emergency Support

Functions (ESF).

Currently Amateur Radio is included in three of the ESF’s: ESF-6 Communications, ESF-5

Emergency Management, and ESF-4 Mass Care, Housing, and Human Services.

Now is the time to voice your thoughts on the support roles ARES can and should play

during the times of emergency. If any current or prospective ARES members would like to

contribute, please contact Bert Wasson N7YPP ([email protected]) or Dave Klimas

WD7K ([email protected]).

Bill Balzarini KL7BB – has graciously donated ten 40-meter DIY QRP CW Transceiver

kits to Stevens County Hams with the intent to use them to attract new members to the Ham

radio community. The kit requires the builder to have some soldering skills and knowledge

of component color codes. Included in the kits are the components to build a simple thumb

key for sending code. Also included are crystals for 7.023, 7.028, 7.030, 7.040, 7.0475,

7.055 and 7.058 MHz. Upon completion, the builder will need to provide an earphone or

speaker, antenna, and power source. The completed kit can be powered by a 9v battery.

For more information, the following website describes the construction of a similar

implementation of this kit:

http://goughlui.com/2016/10/01/project-7-023mhz-pixie_4-1grp-cw-transceiver-kit/

This would make a great group or club project. Let me know if you are interested.

Dave – WD7K

[email protected] Bert, I am thinking that you should get the rest of the ARES
