Der Werdegang von Nuria Iturrios

Während der letzten Monate erreichten uns viele gute Nachrichten. Der Golf auf den Balearischen Inseln erfreut sich guter Gesundheit und verbessert sich weiterhin. Wenn es darum geht eine Person mit diesem Erfolg zu verbinden, handelt es sich ohne Zweifel um Nuria Iturrios. Wir erinnern uns daran, dass sie im April die Santander Golf Tour gewinnen konnte und danach gewann sie noch zwei weitere Trophäen der Ladies European Tour in Rabat und Dubai. Zudem konnte sie noch die Symetra Tour in Alabama gewinnen. Dieser Sieg war ein großer Schritt nach vorne, auch für das Jahr 2020 in der LPGA Tour, wo sie auf die Weltelite trifft.

Herausragende Neuigkeiten für den balearischen Golf und besonders für ihren Club Son Servera. Es ist außergewöhnlich, was Nuria gemeinsam mit ihrem Trainer José Luis „Chiqui“ Palacios leistet. Dieser enorme Fortschritt lässt uns zeitnah von einer Spielerin unten den besten der Welt träumen. Wir dürfen natürlich auch nicht die Leistung von Luna Sobrón vergessen, die Schritt für Schritt ihren Platz unter den besten Spielerinnen sucht.

Beide sind ein großer Stimulus für den Golf in unserer Region und ein Beispiel für alle Jungen und Mädchen, die Golf spielen. Dies bringt ein großes Interesse für unseren Sport und es macht deutlich welche tolle Arbeit in den Golfschulen und Clubs geleistet wird. Für die, die den Golf lieben, sind wir sehr glücklich, dass die methodische und rigorose Arbeit Früchte trägt.

There has been plenty of good news over the last couple of months. Golf in the Balearic Islands enjoys good health and is improving. This has largely been thanks to Nuria Iturrios. Not only did she win the Santander Golf Tour in April but also two Ladies European Tour titles (Rabat and Dubai) and the Symetra Tour in Alabama. The latter was a major victory for her, since it brings her closer to the 2020 LPGA tour and to elite golf.

These are great news for Balearic golf, particularly for her club (Son Servera). Nuria and her trainer José Luis “Chiqui” Palacios are doing an extraordinary job. She has progressed incredibly well, bringing the dream of her becoming one of the best female golfers worldwide closer to reality. And let’s not forget Luna Sobrón’s great performance, who is increasingly emerging as one of the best players of today.

They have both brought regional golf to a different level. They are a great role model for many boys and girls, helping draw people’s attention to the sport and to the great work carried out by club academies. Therefore, we as golf lovers couldn’t be happier, as we can now ascertain that methodical and hard work has paid off.

Durante estos meses hemos tenido muchas buenas noticias. El golf en las Illes Balears goza de buena salud, y mejorando. Pero si se trata de ponerle una imagen a este buen estado sin duda esa es la de Nuria Iturrios. Hay que recordar que en abril conquistó el Santander Golf Tour, y que posteriormente ha ganado dos trofeos del Ladies European Tour (Rabat y Dubai) y se estrenó con victoria en el Symetra Tour, disputado en Alabama. Esta victoria supuso un gran paso adelante para que pueda estar en 2020 en el LPGA Tour, compitiendo con la elite mundial.

Inmejorables noticias para el golf balear, y muy especialmente para su club, Son Servera. Extraordinario trabajo el que está realizando Nuria junto con su entrenador, José Luis “Chiqui” Palacios, con una progresión espectacular que nos hace soñar con contar con una jugadora entre las mejores del mundo muy pronto. Sin olvidar el trabajo que está haciendo Luna Sobrón, que también está consiguiendo poco a poco hacerse un sitio entre las mejores.

Ambas son ya un gran estímulo para todo el golf de nuestra comunidad, y un ejemplo para tantos y tantos niños y niñas que practican el golf, y esta progresión no hará más que ejercer una atracción hacia nuestro deporte y darle una visibilidad al gran trabajo que se hace en las escuelas de los clubes. Por ello quienes amamos el golf estamos de enhorabuena, pues comprobamos que el trabajo metódico y riguroso siempre acaba dando frutos.

En nuestro anterior número entrevistamos al director de Golf Alcanada, Kristoff Both, quien nos hablaba del gran proyecto

que tenía para el invierno. Nos citamos ahora para comentarlos a su finalización y para ello acudimos al club del Faro de Alcanada, dónde nos reciben Jenny Simon (responsable de Marketing), Borja Azpilicueta (Head GreenKeaper) y el propio Kristoff Both.

Borja Azpilicueta nos explica las principales modificaciones en el campo: “Como sabéis, el motivo principal de la reforma era el cambio de hierba de los 18 greenes, que tenían una contaminación de “paspalum” (otro tipo de hierba). Hemos aprovechado para modificar ligeramente las pendientes con la intención de crear más zonas de posición de bandera, todo ello sin cambiar la caja del green”. En teoría, detalla, “son unos greenes más fáciles, aunque no para quiénes estaban acostumbrados al campo, que sin duda tardarán en hacerse con las nuevas caídas. En cualquier caso, siguen siendo unos greenes movidos y exigentes para los amantes del buen golf”.

In our last issue, we interviewed the director of Alcanada Golf Club, Mr Kristoff Both, who told us about the big project planned for last winter. To find out

what changes have actually been made, we went back to the golf club located by the lighthouse in Alcanada, where Jenny Simon (Head of Marketing), Borja Azpilicueta (Head GreenKeaper) and Kristoff Both himself welcomed us.

Borja Azpilicueta explained the main alterations to the course: “As you know, the alterations mainly included the replacement of grass on the 18 greens, as it had become polluted by paspalum grass. We also modified the slopes slightly in order to provide more flag positions without changing the green area too much.” He added, “The greens are now easier to play, although not for those who were already familiar with the course, as it will certainly take time for them to get used to it. In any case, the greens are still quite challenging for lovers of good golf.”

Likewise, the grass leading to the green has been replaced and major changes have also been made to the green of Hole 1. Azpilicueta explained, “When you hit to the green and you fell short, the ball would either roll back or even fall into the water. A wall by the torrent has now been erected, so the area between the green and the torrent is practically flat. The torrent has also been cleaned up. This has helped speed up the game you can finish the round about 15 minutes faster than before.”

Both, der uns über das große Projekt für den Winter informierte. Die Renovierungsarbeiten wurden nun abgeschlossen und aus diesem Grund kehren wir zum Club von Alcanada beim Leuchtturm zurück, wo uns Jenny Simon (verantwortlich für Marketing), Borja Azpilicueta (Head GreenKeaper) und auch Kristoff Both begrüßen.

Borja Azpilicueta erklärt uns die wichtigsten Veränderungen auf dem Golfplatz: „Wie Ihr schon wusstet, war der wichtigste Grund für die Renovierung der Austausch des Rasens der 18 Greens, da dieser durch ein andere Grasart Namens Paspalum verschmutzt wurde. Wir haben die Gelegenheit genutzt, um die Neigungen leicht zu modifizieren mit der Absicht mehr Fahnenpositionen zu erschaffen. All dies natürlich ohne das Green groß zu verändern.“ Des Weiteren fügt er hinzu, dass einige Greens nun einfacher sind, jedoch nicht unbedingt für die Spieler, die an den Golfplatz gewöhnt waren. In jedem Fall handelt es sich weiterhin für Golfliebhaber um herausfordernde Greens.

Zudem wurde der Rasen zu Anfang des Greens ausgewechselt und eine weitere wichtige Veränderung beim 1. Green durchgeführt. Azpilicueta erklärt, dass wenn der Schlag zum Green zu kurz war der Ball zurückrollte und vielleicht sogar ins Wasser fiel. Es wurde eine Mauer neben dem Bach errichtet, um die Fläche vom Green

zum Bach so gut wie möglich zu ebnen. Im gleichen Bach wurde ebenfalls eine Säuberung durchgeführt. Das hat geholfen das Spiel agiler zu machen und die Spielzeit um 15 Minuten zu reduzieren.

Des Weiteren erklärt er, dass beim Loch 5 die ersten 50 Meter vor dem Green angehoben wurden, indem man die Erde abgetragen und mit Sand aufgefüllt hat. Es war ein Bereich, der zuvor sehr matschig war und wo der Ball immer sehr schmutzig wurde. Es wurden 7 km an Bewässerungsrohren verlegt, 2,5 km neue Wege erstellt und in allen Bunkern wurde der Sand ausgetauscht. Der Golfplatz ist nun in einem perfekten Zustand, um eine wunderbare Golferfahrung zu erleben.

Kristoff Both fügt hinzu, dass eine alte Mauer von 300 Meter Länge wiederhergestellt wurde, die den Übungsbereich und den Weg zum Club abgrenzen (die Mauer ist ca. 300 Jahre alt).

se ha acometido en el green del 1. Azpilicueta explica que “en el golpe a green si te quedabas corto la bola te rodaba o no sabías si te habías ido al agua. Se ha levantado la pared del torrente con lo que del green hacia el torrente la superficie es prácticamente plana. Se ha realizado una limpieza y poda en el mismo torrente. Ello ha contribuido a un juego más ágil, no en vano la mejora de la rapidez es de unos 15 minutos”.

Asimismo, continúa, “en el hoyo 5 se han levantado los primeros 50 metros antes de green, quitando la tierra y poniendo todo arena. Era una zona que se encharcaba mucho cuando te quedabas corto y la bola normalmente se embarraba. Se han hecho 7 kilómetros de tubería de riego, 2 kilómetros y medio de caminos y se ha cambiado la arena de todos los bunkers. El campo está en perfectas condiciones para una maravillosa experiencia de golf”.

Kristoff Both comenta a su vez la recuperación de un muro antiguo de 300 metros lineales, que delimita la zona de prácticas con el camino de acceso al club (300 años de antigüedad aproximadamente). “La rehabilitación la ejecuta una empresa especializada y quedará al estilo y carácter mallorquines”. Alcanada Golf cuida cada detalle, preserva los orígenes y es respetuosa con el entorno.

Hablamos por último de la tienda y recepción, con ese representativo nuevo acceso, cambio total de mobiliario y suelo, iluminación y nuevo mostrador de recepción. Un

espacio diáfano, con los detalles de piedra vista de siempre, que con la reforma ha quedado realmente precioso.

Hemos quedado maravillados. Desde “The Club House Magazine” queremos felicitar a todo el equipo. Estaremos atentos al vídeo de Golf Alcanada que se está cocinando para visualizar todos los detalles de la reforma y compartirlos con todos vosotros.

He added, “At Hole 5, the first 50 metres before the green have been raised by removing soil and adding sand. That area used to be covered with puddles and the ball would get covered in dirt. 7 km of irrigation pipes and 2.5 km of paths have been laid down. Sand has also been replaced in all bunkers. The golf course

is now in great condition for a wonderful golf experience.”

Kristoff Both explained that a 300-metre old wall has been recovered. It is about 300 years old and separates the practice area from the access way to the club. “The wall is being recovered by a specialist company in order to preserve its true Majorcan style.” After all, Alcanada Golf attaches great importance to detail, traditional features and the environment.

Last but not least, we talked about the shop and reception area and its wonderful new entrance, furniture, flooring, lights and reception counter. This stone-walled open space looks just stunning.

Seguimos recordando con estos artículos en su momento por Miquel Deyà importantes capítulos de la historia del golf en las Illes Balears. Miramos a los años 80 y 90 para hablar de los

jugadores locales que destacaron por entonces.

Anteriormente a la constitución de los eslabones docentes que hoy en día existen –escuelas municipales, Escuela Balear, Escuela de Tecnificación-, destacó muy especialmente la figura de Jesús López Moreno, el cual, enseñado y preparado por su padre –Francisco “Mike” López- alcanzó metas tan importantes que eran impensables para un jugador que no estuviera destinado a pertenecer a la elite de este deporte. Así, en 1980, fue semifinalista en el “British Boys”, campeón de la “Copa Jerez”, campeón de Barcelona (prueba puntuable para entrar en el equipo nacional), subcampeón de España junior, sexto clasificado en la Orange Bowl (Miami), Internacional con España contra Italia y contra País de Gales, ganando en ambos.

Pero su cénit como jugador aficionado llegó al año siguiente -1981- en que se proclamó campeón de España amateur, campeón del “British Boys” –cosa solo al alcance de superfiguras como José María Olazábal o Sergio García-, campeón de Europa Junior, campeón de Barcelona, de nuevo, campeón del Trofeo Internacional “Hassan II de Marruecos”, primer jugador amateur clasificado en el “Open de Madrid” y subcampeón de la “Copa S.M. el Rey”, internacional. Decían de él los entendidos que sería el sustituto natural de Severiano Ballesteros. Este mismo años 1981 se pasó al profesionalismo y hoy surgen las preguntas: ¿era demasiado joven para ello?, ¿pudo con él tanta gloria deportiva? El tiempo parece que hace contestar que sí a esas cuestiones.

De todos modos, y a nivel local, Jesús López no jugaba solo, sino que compartía los partidos de honor con rivales muy competitivos; me refiero a José Rodríguez Castillo –director gerente de Santa Ponça-, Pepe Gancedo, ya en el ocaso de su trayectoria deportiva de alto nivel, Pedro Jurado, Georges Oosterlynk, Carlos Insúa. Seguía siendo buen jugador José Luis Roses y destacaba también Juan Galiano. Destacamos aquí que una prueba tan importante como la “Copa del Rey” se disputó dos años consecutivos en Mallorca, concretamente en Golf de Poniente, y los jugadores locales impusieron su ley: me refiero a Pedro Jurado y Juan Galiano, ganadores respectivamente en 1978 y 1979. Camina Pascual triunfó en damas.

Ya con posterioridad marcaron el ritmo Javier Toll, jugador de Son Vida, hoy profesional del Golf Sur en Tenerife, Jesús Pulido, los hermanos Oscar y Raúl Ruiz y Rubén Fuentes. De todos ellos, Rubén fue el que alcanzó mejor palmarés como jugador amateur, ya que los demás tomaron pronto el profesionalismo. Rubén fue subcampeón de España de categoría alevín en 1985; este mismo año recibió la medalla al mérito deportivo, por bajar tres categorías en un año, ha sido campeón de Baleares en todas las categorías, estuvo becado en la Escuela Nacional de Golf en “la Herrería” (El Escorial), y fue internacional por España, ganando el campeonato mundial universitario por equipos (Madrid 1994), fue 7º de Europa por equipos (Madrid 1994), fue 7º de Europa por equipos con España (Oslo 1992) y ganó la Copa de Naciones por equipos (Finlandia 1994). Asimismo quedó subcampeón de España por parejas –con Tomeu Ferrer- en el año 1994 en el Real Golf de la Coruña. Ya en la era

The articles written by Miquel Deyà are a great opportunity to remember major milestones in Balearic golf history. Let’s have a look back at the 1980s and 1990s to remember

some of the top local players of that time

Prior to the training opportunities available these days (municipal academies, Balearic Academy, Technical Golf Academy…), Jesús López Moreno played a very important role. Trained by his father –Francisco “Mike” López– he achieved major milestones that were only within reach of elite golf players. In 1980 he was semi-finalist at the British Boys Tournament, winner of “Copa Jerez”, winner in Barcelona (ranking event to qualify for the national team), runner-up at the Spanish Junior Championship, 6th at the Orange Bowl (Miami) and winner against Italy and Wales along with the Spanish national team.

However, his major milestone as an amateur player arrived in 1981, when he won the Spanish Amateur Championship, the British Boys Tournament (a milestone only accomplished by top players such as José María Olazábal or Sergio García), the Europe Junior Championship, Barcelona and the Hassan II Trophy in Morocco. He also became the first amateur player to qualify for the Madrid Open and runner-up at “Copa S.M. el Rey”. People would often say that he would become the new Severiano Ballesteros. That same year he made the move to professional golf, which makes us now wonder: Was he too young to make the move? Did the success affect his career? If we look back, the answer to these questions is “yes”.

Jesús López didn’t play alone. He played against very competitive rivals such as José Rodríguez Castillo –managing director in Santa Ponça–, Pepe Gancedo –nearing the end of his elite sporting career–, Pedro Jurado, Georges Oosterlynk, Carlos Insúa… José Luis Roses was still a very good player back then, just like Juan Galiano. The famous “Copa S.M. el Rey” was held on Majorca for two years in a row, namely at the Poniente Golf Club. Local players won the tournament. I’m talking about Pedro Jurado and Juan Galiano, winners in 1978 and 1979, respectively. Camina Pascual won in the women’s category.

Other players who later set the pace were Javier Toll –former player at Son Vida, now golf coach at Golf Sur in Tenerife–, Jesús Pulido, brothers Oscar and Raúl Ruiz and Rubén Fuentes. Rubén was the one who obtained the best results in amateur golf, since all other players soon made the move to professional golf. Rubén was runner-up at the Spanish U13 Championship in 1985. He also received a sports merit award and was all-round champion in the Balearic Islands. He obtained a grant to play at the National Golf Academy in “La Herrería” (El Escorial) and won the World University Team Championship (Madrid 1994). Rubén was 7th at the Europe Team Championship (Oslo 1992 and Madrid 1994) and won the Nations Team Championship (Finland 1994). He was runner-up at the Spanish Pair Championship along with Tomeu Ferrer, a tournament held in 1994 at Real Golf in Coruña (Galicia). Marrero, con la Escuela Balear de Golf en funcionamiento, el nivel técnico de nuestros jugadores fue subiendo, y nuestra presencia en España era cada vez más notable; veámoslo…

Los primeros en destacar fueron Tomeu Ferrer y Pedro Juan Sureda, ambos de Son Servera. En 1993 obtuvieron sendos subcampeonatos de España en las categorías cadete y benjamín respectivamente. El propio Ferrer compartió honores con Rubén Fuentes en 1994 –subcampeón de España por parejas-, y participó en numerosas competiciones puntuables para el ranking nacional, junto con el propio Rubén y con Javier Garau.

Desde los niveles inferiores surge David James, de Son Visa, que de pronto explota a nivel nacional proclamándose campeón de España de “boys” y juniors (entre 16 y 21 años de edad) tras un emocionante desempate. A partir de aquí es seguido de cerca por los técnicos de la Real Federación Española de Golf y participa, como internacional, en el campeonato del mundo junior por equipos en Japón, y en otras competiciones a nivel individual (Reino Unido, Francia).

Sebastián García, de Santa Ponça, da el salto, mediante una beca, desde la Escuela Balear a la Escuela Nacional, en Madrid, y alcanza pronto también la internacionalidad. Participa en el British Boys y, en 1999, su gran año, conquista la “Copa Puerta de Hierro” –campeonato de España en la modalidad “match play”- y vence en el “Trofeo Berhnard Langer” en Alemania.

Mit diesen von Miquel Deyà damals geschriebenen Artikeln möchten wir uns erneut an wichtige Momente der

Golfgeschichte auf den Balearen erinnern. Wir kehren zurück in die 80er und 90er Jahre, um über die einheimischen Spieler zu sprechen, die zu dieser Zeit hervorstachen.

Vor der Einführung der heutigen Trainingsstätten (örtliche Golfschule, Balearische Golfschule, Zentrum für Golf-Techniktraining…) stach besonders die Figur von Jesús López Moreno hervor, der durch seinen Vater –Francisco “Mike” López– trainiert wurde. Er erreichte sehr wichtige Ziele, die für einen Spieler, der nicht aus der Elite dieser Sportart kam, unvorstellbar waren. 1980 wurde er Halbfinalist beim British Boys Turnier, Sieger beim Turnier „Copa Jerez“, Sieger in Barcelona (ein Turnier für die Qualifizierung in die Nationalmannschaft), Vizemeister bei den spanischen Junioren Meisterschaften, sechster Platz beim Orange Bowl (Miami), Sieger gegen Italien und Wales mit der spanischen Mannschaft, usw.

Sein Zenit als Amateurspieler erreichte er jedoch im Jahre 1981. Er gewann die spanischen Amateurmeisterschaften, das British Boys Turnier (eine Meisterleistung, die nur von Superhelden wie José María Olazábal oder Sergio García erreicht werden konnte), die Europa Junioren Meisterschaften, das Turnier in Barcelona (zum zweiten Mal) und die Golftrophäe Hassan II von Marokko. Zudem war er der erste Amateurspieler, der sich für die Madrid Open qualifizierte und wurde Vizemeister des Turniers „Copa S.M. el Rey“. Experten sagten damals von ihm, dass er der Nachfolger von Severiano Ballesteros sein würde. 1981 machte er ebenfalls den Schritt zum Profigolfer. Heute stellen wir uns die Fragen: War er zu jung für diesen Sprung? Wurde ihm der sportliche

Erfolg zu viel? Die Zeit hat es gezeigt, dass diese Fragen mit „JA“ beantwortet werden können.

Auf lokaler Ebene spielte Jesús López nicht alleine, sondern es gab starke Gegner, auf die er bei den wichtigen Turnieren stieß. Ich beziehe mich auf José Rodríguez Castillo (Geschäftsführer in Santa Ponça), Pepe Gancedo (der sich am Ende seiner sportlichen Karriere befindet), Pedro Jurado, Georges Oosterlynk oder Carlos Insúa. José Luis Roses und Juan Galiano waren damals ebenfalls gute Spieler. In diesem Zusammenhang ist es wichtig hervorzuheben, dass das bekannte Turnier „Copa del Rey“ zwei Jahre hintereinander auf Mallorca stattfand, genauer gesagt im Golfclub von Poniente. Bei diesem Turnier konnten sich die lokalen Spieler durchsetzen: Pedro Jurado und Juan Galiano gewannen den Wettbewerb jeweils 1978 und 1979. Camina Pascual war die Siegerin bei den Damen.

Auf diese Zeit folgten weitere Spieler wie zum Beispiel Javier Toll (Spieler von Son Vida, heute Trainer im Golfclub Sur auf Teneriffa), Jesús Pulido, die Brüder Oscar und Raúl Ruiz und Rubén Fuentes. Von allen erreichte Rubén die meisten Siege als Amateur, da die anderen sehr früh zum Profigolf wechselten. Rubén wurde 1985 spanischer Vizemeister in der Kategorie Junioren U13 und erhielt eine Medaille für seine sportliche Leistung. Er wurde ebenfalls balearischer Meister in allen Kategorien und erhielt ein Stipendium für die nationale Golfschule in „La Herrería“ (El Escorial). Er spielte für Spanien und gewann die Team-Hochschulweltmeisterschaften (Madrid 1994). Er erreichte jeweils den siebten Platz bei den europäischen Team-Meisterschaften in Madrid 1994 und erneut bei den europäischen Team-Meisterschaften mit Spanien in Oslo 1992. Zudem gewann er den Team Nationen Cup

in Finnland 1994 und im selben Jahr wurde er spanischer Vizemeister gemeinsam mit Tomeu Ferrer im Königlichen Golfclub von La Coruña. Schon in der Zeit von Marrero, als die Balearische Golfschule schon tätig war, stieg das technische Niveau unserer Spieler konstant an und unsere Präsenz in Spanien wurde immer bedeutender.

Die ersten Spieler, die bei den nationalen Turnieren hervorstachen, waren Tomeu Ferrer und Pedro Juan Sureda, beide aus Son Servera. 1993 wurden sie spanische Vizemeister jeweils in den Kategorien U17 und U11. 1994 wurde Ferrer spanischer Vizemeister mit Rubén Fuentes als Paar. Zudem nahm er zusammen mit Rubén und Javier Garau an zahlreichen Wettbewerben teil, um sein nationales Ranking zu verbessern.

Aus der Jugend kam dann David James aus Son Visa hervor, der beim spanischen Boys Turnier und Junioren Turnier (Altersgruppe zwischen 16 und 21 Jahren) nach einem spannenden Stechen siegte. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt richten alle Trainer des Königlichen Golfverbands Spaniens ihre Augen auf diesen Spieler. James nahm sowohl an den Junioren Team-Weltmeisterschaften in Japan als auch an anderen Einzelwettbewerben (wie z. B. in Großbritannien und Frankreich) teil.

Dank eines Stipendiums machte Sebastián García aus Santa Ponça den Schritt von der Balearischen Golfschule hin zur Nationalen Golfschule in Madrid und nahm bald an internationalen Wettbewerben teil. Er spielte das British Boys Turnier und 1999, sein bestes Jahr, gewann er das spanische Match Play Turnier „Copa Puerta de Hierro“ und die Trophäe Bernhard Langer in Deutschland.

The players who first stood out at national events were Tomeu Ferrer and Pedro Juan Sureda, both from Son Servera. They both became runner-ups at the 1993 Spanish Championships in the U17 and U11 category, respectively. Ferrer shared some of his success with Rubén Fuentes in 1994 (runner-up at the Spanish Pair Championship) and took part in many national ranking events along with Rubén and Javier Garau.

David James from Son Visa emerged from lower categories and soon became the winner of the Spanish Boys and Junior Championship (16-21 year old) after an exciting tie. The coaches of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation started following him from then on. He participated at the World Junior Team Championships in Japan as well as in other single events (United Kingdom, France).

Sebastián García from Santa Ponça took the plunge from the Balearic Academy to the National Academy in Madrid thanks to a grant and soon afterwards started participating in international tournaments. He played the British Boys Tournament and won the Spanish Match Play “Copa Puerta de Hierro” Tournament in 1999 as well as the Bernhard Langer Trophy in Germany.

La Casa Club del Santa Ponsa rezuma golf y sus paredes y vitrinas nos acercan a los eventos más importantes del

golf profesional en Baleares, no en vano, sus fairways y greenes han vivido hasta 6 pruebas del European Tour. Luis Nigorra, director del club, nos recibe en la espectacular sala de juntas. Tras una larga conversación sobre el golf en general, sobre el turismo, nos adentramos en las cuestiones relacionadas con Santa Ponsa I. ¿Como se gestó la creación del campo? La creación del campo viene ligada al turismo en la zona de Santa Ponsa. Los terrenos eran propiedad del Banco de Crédito Balear intervenido en ese momento por el Banco de España. La institución era partidaria de vender los terrenos mientras que mi padre y mi abuelo eran partidarios de un desarrollo urbanístico que aportara más valor. Se pensó en un desarrollo que incluyera el Club Naútico de Santa Ponsa y por otra parte hacer un campo de golf (viendo las experiencias positivas que se estaban llevando a cabo en Marbella). Y así se hizo. Como la finca es además generosa, 76 Ha, se diseñó un campo amplio. Dos desarrollos coetáneos naútico - golf que con el atractivo natural de la playa eran un complemento ideal para quiénes adquiriesen su vivienda. Sin duda, un gran acierto. Mi padre entendía el golf, pero no la practicaba (su pasión era el mar) aunque tenía una gran visión, leía muy bien las caídas y le encantaba caminar. Me acompañaba a alguno de los torneos. Un gran aficionado no practicante. Recuerdo este mismo verano, antes de su fallecimiento, que sus 89 años nos dijo a mi hermana y a mí que nos acompañaba pero que no vendría en buggie.

Visto el informe de impacto económico del sector del golf, vistas las gestiones que está realizando la Federación Balear de Golf, ¿ve factible un gran campeonato en el corto plazo? Sería muy bueno en las islas tener algún torneo tanto del LET como del European Tour. Las jugadoras del LET son más accesibles y sería además un proyecto más asequible económicamente. En cualquier caso el enfoque debería ser mixto, público – privado, al menos en el lanzamiento a la espera de un gran sponsor. La actividad en este sentido, por parte de la Federación Balear va en buena línea y pienso que si alguien puede conseguirlo es el actual presidente, Bernardino Jaume, que está innovando y teniendo una visión proactiva y muy avanzada. Si se hace en Santa Ponsa nos haría ilusión, claro está, pero lo importante es que se haga, luego la decisión respecto al campo dependerá de requisitos técnicos. También es cierto que la Administración se está empezando a dar cuenta de la importancia que tiene el golf. El informe mide el gasto del golfista en el campo de golf, pero el impacto es infinitamente mayor. Estas dos circunstancias y el hecho de la unión existente entre los campos de golf, deberían llevarnos a la línea que han

¿Como vivió las victorias de Severiano Ballesteros en 1988 y 1992? Con muchísima emoción. Ballesteros era un referente, el preferido, la fiel representación de nuestro deporte. Un jugador que fallaba calles (como muchos amateurs) que tenía una capacidad de recuperación nunca más vista. Célebre es su cita “me gustaría que las calles fueran más estrechas. Así todo el mundo tendría que jugar desde el rough, y no solo yo”. Fue una época genial, jugué Pro-Am con Olazábal, Santi Luna o Quirós, incluso alguna vuelta de prácticas.

¿Y ese play off en el 18 en 1988? Maravilloso. Seve y Chema jugaron el 18 cuatro veces. Seve le decía a Chema -se llevaban muy bien- “tú eres muy joven y tendrás tiempo para ganar”, a lo que Chema replicaba “tú ya has ganado

Interview with Luis Nigorra Cobián, Director of Santa Ponsa I, a golf club that has hosted some of the major golf events in the history of

this region. The clubhouse of Santa Ponsa Golf Club oozes golf. Its walls and

display cabinets take us back to the major professional golf events held on the Balearic Islands, as its fairways and greens have been host to no less than 6 European Tour tournaments. Club Director Luis Nigorra welcomes us in the stunning boardroom.

After chatting about golf, tourism, etc. for a while, we change the subject to talk about Santa Ponsa I. How was the golf club established? The foundation of our club is closely linked to tourism in the Santa Ponsa area. The land was property of “Banco de Crédito Balear”, which was taken over by the Spanish Bank back then. The bank was in favour of selling the plots, while my father and my grandfather preferred to develop the area in order to increase its value. The idea was to build a yacht club and a golf club inspired by the positive experience in Marbella. That’s how it was established.

The plot was big enough (76 hectares) to be home to a spacious golf course. The golf and the yacht club were built at the same time, close to the beautiful beach, which acted as a magnet to draw people looking for real estate. It was definitely a wise move. My father understood golf despite not being a player (the sea was his true passion). However, he was a visionary and great at reading the green. He also loved to walk. He would come to some of the tournaments with

me. He loved golf even though he didn’t play. That same year, before he passed away aged 89, he told my sister and me that he would come but not on a buggy.

Now that we’ve seen the economic impact report for the golf industry and the measures implemented by the Balearic Golf Federation, is a major tournament possible in the short term?It would be great to host some LET or European Tour event here on the islands. LET players are more accessible and the project would also be more affordable. Anyway, it should have a public-private approach, at least before a big sponsor is found. The Balearic Golf Federation is moving in the right direction, and I think that if anyone is to succeed in this I believe that it will be the current President Bernardino Jaume. He is very innovative and has a proactive and modern view.

We would definitely be very excited if the event was to take place in Santa Ponsa, but the most important thing is that it happens at all. In fact, the decision regarding the golf course is subject to technical requirements.

mucho, ahora me toca a mí”. Para Mallorca fue extraordinaria. 4.000 personas de público, algo maravilloso. ¿Y si hablamos del controvertido -para unos pocos- tema de la ecología? Creo que la visión que se transmite es parcial y sesgada. Nuestra visión del tema es global. Somos unas reservas naturales muy importantes, el 100 % es agua depurada, servimos de parada de aves migratorias. El GOB viene a hacer recuento de aves y quedan maravillados de alguna de las especies que se encuentran / han encontrado. Halcones, águilas pescadoras, cisnes, garzas, perdices... Hay que defender los datos reales, tenemos la huella de carbono óptimo. Considero que todos los campos son muy responsables en lo que hacen.

¿Campo de socios – campo de greenfees? El Santa Ponsa I es un campo Pay & Play que basa su actividad en los greenfees, nuestro campo de socios es el Santa Ponsa II.

¿Cuáles son los eventos y torneos más importantes en 2019? Nuestra actividad en este sentido se concentra en el TROFEO S.A.R. PRINCESA BIRGITTA DE SUECIA que va por la edición XXIX en este 2019 y con la semana grande en verano. En ocasiones también se ha desarrollado algún torneo organizado por la Federación Balear de Golf.

Para terminar, ¿cómo ve el nivel del golf balear? Tenemos unos grandes campos de golf en Baleares, muy bonitos y con excelentes servicios. La proyección de nuestro golf amateur es extraordinaria, gracias a la labor de la Federación y de las Academias de Golf de los campos y no tengo la menor duda que nuevos talentos seguirán los pasos de Luna Sobrón y Nuria Iturriós.

In addition, it seems that the Government is starting to become aware of how important golf is. The report only measures the money spent by players at the golf club, but golf has an infinitely greater impact. This, combined with the fact that there is a good relation between golf courses, should bring us nearer to the line of action set out in Andalusia, Canary Islands or Catalonia. It would definitely help further promote our region as a holiday destination.

How did you feel when Severiano Ballesteros won in 1988 and 1992? I was very excited. Ballesteros was a very important player, the favourite one, a true representative of golf. He would miss fairways (just as many other amateur players), but he had an amazing ability to recover.

He once said, “I’d like to see fairways narrower, so that everyone would have to play from the rough, not just me.”It was an epic time. I played Pro-Am with Olazábal, Santi Luna or Quirós, and even at some practice rounds.

What about the playoff at Hole 18 back in 1988? Wonderful. Seve and Chema won Hole 18 four times. Seve told Chema (they got along very well), “You are very young, so you’ll have enough time to win”, to which Chema replied, “You have already won a fair amount of times. Now it’s my turn.” It was an extraordinary event for Majorcan golf, with 4,000 viewers watching. Amazing.

What is your view on the environmental impact of golf? It is a controversial issue to consider…The information given is biased and partial. We have a holistic view of the topic. Golf courses are very important nature reserves, 100% of our water is treated and we also provide a vital stopover for migratory birds. GOB representatives come to our club for bird counting and they are astonished at how many species they find. Falcons, fish hawks, swans, herons, partridges… We stand for accurate data. Our carbon footprint is very low. In my opinion, all golf clubs act in a very responsible way in whatever they do.

Members’ golf club – Green fees golf club? Santa Ponsa I is a Pay & Play golf club where green fees are applied, while Santa Ponsa II is for club members.

What are the major events and tournaments in 2019? Our efforts are mainly focused on the PRINCESS BIRGITTA OF SWEDEN TROPHY, celebrating its 29 edition in summer 2019. We have also hosted a few tournaments organised by the Balearic Golf Federation.

Before we wrap up this interview, what is your opinion of golf on the Balearic Islands? The Balearic Islands are home to great, beautiful golf courses offering excellent services. The future of amateur golf is incredibly promising thanks to the effort made by the Federation and golf academies. I am pretty sure that we will have more talents following in the footsteps of Luna Sobrón and Nuria Iturriós.

Golfclub, wo historische Golfmomente der Region stattgefunden haben. Das Clubhaus von Santa Ponsa ist voller Golfgeschichte und seine Wände und Vitrinen bringen uns die wichtigsten professionellen Veranstaltungen der Balearen näher. Nicht umsonst waren die Fairways und Greens des Clubs sechsmal der Ort, an dem Wettbewerbe der European Tour stattgefunden haben. Luis Nigorra, Direktor des Clubs, empfängt uns im spektakulären Konferenzraum.

Nach einem langen Gespräch über Golf im Allgemeinen und Tourismus gehen wir nun näher auf die Fragen in Bezug auf Santa Ponsa I ein.

Wie ist der Golfclub damals entstanden?Der Golfclub entstand in Verbindung mit dem Tourismus in der Region von Santa Ponsa. Die Grundstücke gehörten damals der Bank „Banco de Crédito Balear“, die damals von der Bank von Spanien übernommen wurde. Die Institution befürwortete den Verkauf des Geländes, während mein Vater und mein Großvater für eine urbanistische Entwicklung waren, was einen höheren Wert einbringt. Es wurde über eine Entwicklung nachgedacht, die sowohl den Yachtclub von Santa Ponsa als auch einen Golfclub beinhaltete und dies wurde zudem von einer positiven Erfahrung in Marbella inspiriert. So wurde es dann auch gemacht.

Da das Gelände ein großes Ausmaß (76 ha) besitzt, wurde ein großzügiger Golfplatz entworfen. Das Projekt des Golfplatzes und des Jachtclubs wurden gleichzeitig durchgeführt, was zusammen mit dem natürlichen Reiz des naheliegenden Strandes Leute anlockte, die ein Eigenheim kaufen wollten. Ohne Zweifel ein großer Erfolg. Mein Vater wusste wie der Golfsport funktioniert, spielte jedoch nicht selber, obwohl er einen sehr guten Überblick

hatte, das Green sehr gut lesen konnte und gerne spazieren ging. Seine wahre Leidenschaft war das Meer. Er begleitete mich zu einigen Turnieren. Er war ein großer Fan. Ich erinnere mich, dass er im Sommer seines Todesjahrs, im Alter von 89 Jahren, zu meiner Schwester und mir sagte, dass er uns begleiten werde, aber nicht im Buggy.

Mit dem Bericht zum wirtschaftlichen Einfluss des Golfsektors und den Anstrengungen des balearischen Golfverbands im Hinterkopf, sehen Sie kurzfristig die Möglichkeit der Ausrichtung eines großen Golfturniers auf den Balearen?Es wäre fantastisch ein Turnier wie z.B. die LET oder auch die European Tour auf den Balearen ausrichten zu dürfen. Die Spielerinnen der LET sind besser verfügbar und es wäre zudem ein wirtschaftlich erschwinglicheres Projekt. In jedem Fall wäre es ein gemeinsamer Ansatz, sowohl mit staatlicher als auch privater Beteiligung, zumindest bis ein großer Sponsor gefunden wird. Die Aktivitäten des Balearischen Golfverbands laufen diesbezüglich in die richtige Richtung. Ich denke, wenn es jemand schaffen kann, dann der derzeitige Präsident Bernardino Jaume, der vieles erneuert und eine proaktive und weit fortgeschrittene Vision hat.

Natürlich würde es uns eine große Freude machen, wenn ein solches Turnier in Santa Ponsa gespielt würde. Wichtiger jedoch ist es, dass es durchgeführt wird. Die Entscheidung für den Golfplatz hängt dann später von den technischen Anforderungen ab. Es ist ebenfalls richtig, dass die balearische Regierung beginnt zu merken, welche Bedeutung der Golfsport besitzt. Der Bericht analysiert die durchschnittlichen Ausgaben des Golfspielers im Golfclub. Der wahre wirtschaftliche Einfluss ist jedoch deutlich höher. Diese beiden Umstände und die existierenden guten Beziehungen zwischen den Golfclubs sollten uns in die Richtung führen, wie sie in Andalusien, den Kanaren oder Katalonien schon gelebt wird. Dies wäre ein großer Erfolg für den Tourismus auf den Balearen.

Wie erlebten Sie die Siege von Severiano Ballesteros in den Jahren 1988 und 1992? Mit großen Emotionen. Ballesteros war ein Vorbild, der Liebling der Fans und ein wahrer Vertreter unseres Sports. Er machte Fehler auf dem Fairway (wie viele Amateure auch), aber er kam unheimlich schnell wieder zurück. Eine seiner bekanntesten Aussagen lautet: “Es wäre schön, wenn das Fairway enger wäre. So müssten alle vom Rough aus spielen und nicht nur ich.“ Es

war eine wunderbare Zeit. Ich spielte Pro-Am mit Olazábal, Santi Luna oder Quirós, und sogar bei einigen Proberunden.

Und das Play-off am 18. Loch 1988?Fantastisch! Seve und Chema spielten das 18. Loch viermal. Seve sagte zu Chema (die sich sehr gut verstanden), „Du bist sehr jung und hast noch Zeit viele Siege einzufahren.“ Darauf antwortete Chema: „Du hast schon viel gewonnen, jetzt bin ich dran.“ Für Mallorca war es wunderbar. 4.000 Zuschauer, einfach fantastisch. Was ist Ihre Meinung in Bezug auf das kontroverse Thema Umwelt? Ich glaube das Bild, das vermittelt wird, ist fragmentiert und einseitig. Unsere Vision auf das Thema ist global. Wir sind ein sehr wichtiges Naturreservat. 100 % des Wassers ist aufbereitet und viele Vögel nutzen das Gelände als Haltestelle auf ihren Reisen. Der GOB führt bei uns Vogelzählungen durch und sie sind beeindruckt von einigen Vogelarten, die sie hier entdeckt haben. Falken, Seeadler, Schwäne, Reiher, Rebhühner... Wir müssen die realen Zahlen verteidigen. Unsere CO2-Bilanz ist sehr gut. Ich denke, dass alle Golfplätze sehr verantwortlich handeln, bei dem was sie tun.

Golfplätze für Mitglieder – Golfplätze mit Greenfees? Der Santa Ponsa I ist ein Golfplatz „Pay & Play“, wo die entsprechenden Greenfees bezahlt werden. Unser Golfplatz für Mitglieder ist Santa Ponsa II.

Was sind die wichtigsten Veranstaltungen und Turniere in 2019? Wir konzentrieren uns bei unseren Aktivitäten auf das Turnier PRINZESSIN BIRGITTA VON SCHWEDEN, was in diesem Jahr im Sommer zum 29. Mal ausgetragen wird. Manchmal gab es auch Turniere, die durch den Balearischen Golfverband organisiert wurden.

Die letzte Frage: Wie sehen Sie das Niveau des balearischen Golfsports?Wir haben einige herausragende Golfplätze auf den Balearen. Sie sind wunderschön und bieten einen exzellenten Service an. Unsere Amateurgolfspieler sind hervorragend und dies dank der Arbeit des Balearischen Golfverbands und der Golfschulen. Ich habe keine Zweifel, dass es neue Talente geben wird, die den gleichen Weg wie Luna Sobrón und Nuria Iturriós einschlagen werden.

Toni, en estos primeros meses al frente de la dirección deportiva de la Federación Balear de Golf, ¿cómo has visto el nivel del golf amateur balear en general y en especial el de los jóvenes talentos? Gran nivel del golf juvenil balear, mucha clase, disciplina y compañerismo. Nos estamos centrando en los chicos más jóvenes, pero también en las categorías de stableford para que den el paso al medal play y a los torneos nacionales e internacionales. En general hay muy buen ambiente en el golf balear, muy familiar y con mucha participación en todas las competiciones.

¿Jugadores con madera de profesionales, capacitados para intentar el reto? Intentarlo.... todos. Llegar, yo confío en que algunos. Es un reto ilusionante aportar mi experiencia a quienes aspiren a dar el salto. Con la calidad inmensa de los jugadores y con esfuerzo y trabajo tengo el convencimiento de que tendremos sorpresas muy agradables, que habrá más “Lunas” y “Nurias”.

Toni, what is your opinion about the quality of amateur golf in the Balearic Islands in general and particularly of young talents now that you have been at the forefront of the Sporting Direction of the Balearic Golf Federation for a couple of months? Young golf players have a great level of performance, class, discipline and companionship. We are promoting not only young talents but also the Stableford category so that they can move to medal play and take part in national and international tournaments. In general, golf enjoys a great, familiar atmosphere in the Balearic Islands, with very high participation rates in all competitions.

Players with enough talent to play professional golf and ready to take up the challenge?They will all definitely try it, and I’m confident that some will be successful at it. Sharing my experience with those wishing to make the move to the next level is a very exciting challenge for me. Now that I have seen how good they play and their hard work, I am pretty sure we will be pleasantly surprised, we will definitely have more “Lunas” and “Nurias”.

T A ¿Novedades destacables?

Uno de los aspectos que incorporamos cuando llegué fueron las competiciones con equipos o federaciones potentes, torneos que aporten valor a los chicos. El match cuadrangular con las federaciones del prestigio de Madrid, Cataluña o País Vasco resultó un éxito, como también lo fue el match con Castellgandolfo (uno de los mejores equipos de Italia). En esta línea seguiremos trabajando, facilitando a nuestros jugadores el aprendizaje competitivo para prepararles en sus salidas a torneos nacionales e internacionales tanto individuales como de equipo. ¿Cómo llevas el cambio? ¿Cómo te sientes detrás de la mesa de tu oficina? La competición es muy bonita –como todo– cuando las cosas van bien. En la última temporada estaba regular, no pegaba bien a la bola, falto de confianza... Y surgió la posibilidad de incorporarme a la Federación Balear en el momento adecuado. Estoy muy contento, aprendiendo mucho y aportando mi experiencia. Un orgullo. ¿Lo malo? No es malo, sino todo lo contrario, pero cuando veo a mis amigos competir con buenos resultados pienso en lo que podría haber sido.

Hiciste un break a principios de año y quedaste campeón de Europa “fourball” con Pep Anglés… Sí, hicimos un gran torneo, primeros desde el comienzo del campeonato. Pep es un gran jugador y amigo desde la infancia. La verdad es que me sorprendió mi juego, pues había entrenado muy poco. Nos compenetramos muy bien y supongo que me salió un gran torneo por tenerle a él al lado. ¿La receta de valores para los más pequeños? Honestidad, humildad, compromiso, fair play, esfuerzo y constancia. El valor del esfuerzo es capital. Y añadiría, pese a tratarse de un deporte básicamente individual, que el camino es más fácil con compañerismo. Me ilusiona ver el buen feeling que hay en todos los equipos de la Federación Balear. ¿Una victoria? La que más me emocionó fue la victoria en el Internacional de Argentina 2012. Vi el nivel que podía alcanzar y me ayudó a dar el paso al profesionalismo. ¿Una anécdota? British Amateur (clasificación para el Masters de Augusta). En mi partida (no siendo yo el marcador) éramos tres, llovía mucho. El marcador de un jugador francés de la partida firmó la tarjeta sin revisar. Habíamos hecho par (yo) y ellos dos +1. Cuando estábamos entregando las tarjetas, vi que el francés entregaba la tarjeta al par. Se lo comenté a Ernesto en la cena. El último día yo pasaba el corte (los primeros 25) y al estar entregando la tarjeta se me acercaron los árbitros para mi sorpresa. Me preguntaron. Tuvimos que hacer un careo (el marcador había abandonado el green por la lluvia sin ver el resultado final). Él se mantenía firme pese a indicarle yo los 5 golpes (bogey) que había realizado. Cuando los árbitros nos indicaron que nos desplazábamos al campo a reproducir los golpes el francés se vino abajo diciendo “si él está tan seguro, debe ser así”. Había hecho una ronda de -5 el último día y pasaba corte y por su trampa fue descalificado. Conclusión: si haces trampas, te las haces a ti y te perjudica para siempre.

Agradecemos a Toni el tiempo que nos ha dedicado y le deseamos todos los éxitos en esta ilusionante faceta deportiva y también en los torneos que pueda jugar como profesional.

Any news you would like to share with us? One of the new changes we made when I took on the job was that implementation of tournaments against powerful teams or federations, that is, tournaments from which our boys and girls can learn. The matches we played against the prestigious Madrid, Catalonia or Basque Country federations were a great success, just like the match against Castellgandolfo (one of the best teams in Italy). We will keep working this way, helping our players prepare for national and international tournaments, both solo or as a team.

Do you like your new role? Being behind your office desk? Competing is amazing, but only when things turn out fine. I was not playing too good during the last season. I was not hitting the ball properly, my self-confidence was missing. The opportunity to join the Balearic Federation came up at the right time. I am very happy. I am learning a lot and sharing my experience with others. It is really a true honour.

Any disadvantage? It is not a disadvantage quite the opposite. However, whenever I see my friends compete and obtain good results, I can’t help but think about what I could have achieved.

You took a break early this year and then ended up winning the Europe Fourball Championship along with Pep Anglés… Yes, we played a great tournament. We led the tournament from the beginning. Pep is a great player and a childhood friend of mine. To be honest, I was amazed at how well I played, as I had not trained enough. We understand each other very well. I probably played a great tournament because of him.

Any values you would like to share with the youngest ones? Honesty, humbleness, commitment, fair play, hard work and perseverance. Hard work is crucial. And I would also add even if golf is basically an individual sport that playing with team spirit makes it all easier. I am happy to see that there is a good vibe in all member teams of the Balearic Federation.

A victory? The moment that touched me the most was when I won the 2012 Argentina International Men’s Singles. That’s when I realised what I was able to achieve, and that victory is what encouraged me to make the move to professional golf. Any anecdote you would like to share with us? British Amateur (qualifying round for the Masters Tournament in Augusta). I was playing with two other players, but I wasn’t marking down the scores. It was pouring down that day. The marker of the French player signed the scorecard without checking first. I had made the cut and they +1. When we handed over our scorecards, I saw that the French player had marked a par score. I told Ernesto over dinner. I made the cut the last day (top 25), but to my surprise the referees approached me when I was handing over my scorecard. They asked me some questions and decided to crosscheck the scores (the marker had left the green because of the rain without seeing the final results). He held firm despite me telling him about the bogey I had made. When the referees asked us to go to the golf course and reproduce the shots, the French player fell apart and ended up admitting, “If he’s so sure, it must be true.” He had scored -5 on the last qualifying day. He had made the cut but was disqualified because he cheated. Conclusion: If you cheat, you are tricking yourself and it will damage you forever.

Toni, Sie sind nun seit mehreren Monaten Sportdirektor des Balearischen Golfverbands. Wie sehen Sie das Niveau der Amateurgolfer im Allgemeinen und insbesondere bei den jungen Talenten auf den Balearen?Die Jugendspieler haben ein sehr gutes Niveau, große Klasse, Disziplin und Kameradschaft. Wir konzentrieren uns auf die ganz jungen Spieler, aber auch auf die Stableford Kategorie, damit die Spieler dann den Schritt zum Medal Play und zu den nationalen und internationalen Turnieren machen können. Allgemein betrachtet gibt es beim Golf auf den Balearen eine sehr gute und familiäre Atmosphäre und die Teilnahme an Wettbewerben ist sehr hoch.

Haben diese Spieler das Potenzial für eine Profikarriere? Sind sie bereit, die Herausforderung anzunehmen?Alle wollen es sicherlich versuchen und ich vertraue auch darauf, dass es einige schaffen werden. Es ist eine tolle Herausforderung für mich, meine Erfahrung mit denen zu teilen, die den Schritt gehen wollen. Unter Berücksichtigung der Qualität und der harten Arbeit der Spieler, bin ich überzeugt davon, dass wir einige schöne Überraschungen erleben werden. Es gibt sicherlich noch einige „Lunas“ und „Nurias“.

Gibt es Neuigkeiten? Einige der Neuigkeiten, die wir nach meinem Start eingeführt haben, waren die Spiele gegen starke Mannschaften und Verbände, die unsere jungen Spieler weiterbringen. Das Spiel gegen die renommierten Verbände aus Madrid, Katalonien oder dem Baskenland war ein Erfolg, genau wie das Spiel gegen Castellgandolfo (eine der besten Mannschaften Italiens). Diese Strategie

werden wir weiterführen, um unsere Spieler auf die nationalen und internationalen Wettbewerbe vorzubereiten, sowohl als Einzelspieler als auch im Team. Wie fühlen Sie sich bei ihrer neuen Arbeit? Ist es eine Umstellung am Schreibtisch zu sitzen?Der Wettbewerb im Sport ist sehr schön, wie alles, wenn es gut läuft. In der letzten Saison habe ich nicht wirklich gut gespielt. Ich habe den Ball nicht gut getroffen und es fehlte Vertrauen. Das Angebot mich beim Balearischen Verband einzubringen kam zum richtigen Zeitpunkt. Ich bin sehr zufrieden, lerne viel und bringe meine Erfahrung ein. Es ist eine Ehre.

Gibt es Nachteile? Es gibt keine Nachteile, im Gegenteil. Wenn ich jedoch meine Freunde bei den Turnieren sehe und sie gute Ergebnisse erreichen, denke ich natürlich daran, was aus mir hätte werden können.

Anfang des Jahres haben Sie eine Pause gemacht und danach wurden Sie Europäischer Meister beim Fourball zusammen mit Pep Anglés…Ja, wir haben ein sehr gutes Turnier gespielt. Wir haben von Beginn des Turniers das Feld angeführt. Pep ist ein hervorragender Spieler und ein Jugendfreund. Ehrlich gesagt war ich überrascht von meinem Spiel, da ich sehr wenig trainiert hatte. Wir beiden verstehen uns sehr gut und möglicherweise war es für mich ein sehr gutes Turnier, weil ich ihn an meiner Seite hatte.

Welche Werte benötigen die ganz jungen Spieler?Ehrlichkeit, Bescheidenheit, Engagement, Fair Play, harte Arbeit und Ausdauer. Die harte Arbeit spielt eine sehr große Rolle. Auch wenn es sich meistens um einen Einzelsport handelt, ist der Weg mit Kameradschaft deutlich einfacher. Ich freue mich zu sehen,

dass in allen Mannschaften des Balearischen Verbands eine gute Stimmung herrscht.

Gab es einen besonderen Sieg in Ihrer Karriere? Der Sieg, der mich am meisten bewegt hat, war der Sieg beim Internationalen Turnier in Argentinien 2012. Ich spürte das Niveau, das ich erreichen konnte. Dies half mir, den Schritt in den Profigolf zu gehen.

Gibt es eine Anekdote, die Sie uns erzählen möchten? British Amateur (Klassifizierung für das Masters von Augusta). Bei meiner Partie waren wir drei Spieler und es regnete stark. Wir mussten einen Vergleich durchführen (der Zähler hatte das Green aufgrund des Regens verlassen, ohne das finale Ergebnis zu sehen). Der andere Spieler blieb standhaft, auch wenn ich ihm über meinen Bogey (5 Schläge) erzählte. Als die Schiedsrichter uns baten, auf das Feld zu gehen, um die Schläge zu reproduzieren, gab der Franzose zu, dass wenn ich so sicher sei, es wohl stimmen würde. Am letzten Tag hatte er eine Runde von -5 gespielt und schaffte den Cut. Aufgrund seines versuchten Betrugs wurde er jedoch disqualifiziert. Anders gesagt: Wenn du betrügst, betrügst du dich selbst und dies schadet dir das ganze Leben.

Golf club restaurants have a reputation for being too expensive and too much focused on players. Is that true?

It is hard for us to attract non-players to our restaurants despite the great food we offer and, in our case, despite being only 5 minutes away from Palma city centre, in a privileged setting.

People tend to associate expensive sports with expensive restaurants, unlike other similar environments, such as yacht clubs, where ordinary people have lunch there very often.

The food on our menu is as expensive as in any other similar restaurant. Our prices are very competitive and affordable for everyone. You can have a bite in our restaurant from just 5. Once people know us, they always repeat!

What type of food do golf players like the most?Golfers tend to order

“classic” dishes, that is, dishes they can find at any golf course, such as club sandwich, Caesar salad, pasta and particularly burgers. The meat we offer in our restaurant is made of fresh Irish Angus beef that we serve with freshly-baked brioche bread, giving it a special touch. The chef’s recommendat ion includes more traditional and seasonal dishes, such as soups and broths, grilled meat and fish and regional specialities from the Balearic Islands. We basically offer Mediterranean food. Our clients come from many different countries and like eating tapas, Iberian

Iniciamos en este número el rincón de gastronomía y lo hacemos en el club decano de Baleares, Son Vida. Sabrosa entrevista a Carlos Sánchez Cabero, “chef” responsable

Tradicionalmente los restaurantes de los campos de golf han tenido una imagen de ser excesivamente caros y demasiado enfocados a los jugadores. ¿Es correcta esta visión?Nos cuesta atraer al cliente no golfista a nuestros restaurantes, a pesar de tener una oferta atractiva y, en nuestro caso, estar a tan solo 5 min del centro de Palma en un entorno privilegiado.

Se suele asociar deporte caro con restaurante caro, pero no se piensa igual en otros entornos similares, como puede ser un club náutico, en el que la gente de la calle va con normalidad a comer.

Nuestro establecimiento tiene unos precios similares a cualquier otro restaurante con oferta gastronómica similar, con unos precios muy competitivos, que se adaptan a cualquier bolsillo. Tenemos platos desde 5 . Una vez nos conocen, ¡repiten!

¿Qué tipo de gastronomía es la preferida de los jugadores de golf?El jugador de golf suele optar por lo que llamamos “los clásicos”, que son los platos que un jugador puede encontrar en cualquier campo de golf. Por ejemplo, club sándwich, ensalada César, pastas y sobre todo las hamburguesas. En nuestro establecimiento las elaboramos con carne fresca de Angus irlandés, a diario, que acompañamos con un pan fresco de brioche que le da nuestro toque particular. También ofrecemos platos más tradicionales y de temporada en nuestras sugerencias del chef, como platos de cuchara, carnes y pescados a la parrilla, y elaboraciones de platos típicos de nuestras islas. Nos podemos definir como cocina mediterránea. En nuestro caso, por la variedad de nacionalidades a las que atendemos, los platos típicos de tapas, ibéricos, frituras, etc. tienen muy buena aceptación ya que son atractivos para los extranjeros.

¿Y de Son Vida?Son Vida está más enfocado a tapas y platos pensados para compartir, sin olvidarnos de los “4 clásicos” que siempre están en carta… En cuanto a las tapas, los huevos rotos en sartén con patatas caseras y jamón ibérico, las croquetas de gambas, el pincho de solomillo de cerdo, la tabla de embutidos mallorquines y las patatas bravas son los platos más demandados por los clientes.

Si tuviese que citar solo uno, ¿a cuál podríamos nominar para plato estrella de cada restaurante?En Son Muntaner, la hamburguesa “Son Muntaner” es sin duda el plato más vendido. Mientras que en Son Vida los huevos rotos en sartén con patatas caseras y jamón ibérico son la estrella de la casa.

Ist diese Aussage korrekt?Es ist schwer für uns Leute in unsere Restaurants zu bekommen, die keine Golfspieler sind, auch wenn wir ein attraktives Angebot haben und in unserem Fall in einem privilegierten Umfeld und nur 5 Minuten vom Zentrum von Palma zu finden sind.

Normalerweise assoziiert man teure Sportarten mit teuren Restaurants. Dies tut man jedoch nicht in ähnlichen Umfeldern, wie zum Beispiel in einem Yachtclub, wo normale Leute sehr oft essen gehen.Unser Restaurant bietet ähnliche Preise wie jedes andere Restaurant mit einem ähnlichen Essensangebot. Unsere Preise

sind sehr wettbewerbsfähig und für jeden Geldbeutel geeignet. Wir bieten Gerichte ab 5 an. Wenn Leute uns entdecken, kommen sie immer wieder!

Was essen die Golfspieler am liebsten?Der typische Golfspieler bestellt meistens die sogenannten „Klassiker“. Das sind die Gerichte, die in jedem Golfclub zu finden sind, zum Beispiel das Club Sandwich, den Cäsar Salat, Nudelgerichte und vor allem Hamburger. Diese werden täglich bei uns mit frischem Fleisch von irländischen Angusrindern hergestellt und mit frischen Brioche-Brötchen serviert, was ihnen unsere besondere Note verleiht. Des Weiteren bieten wir in unseren Empfehlungen des Küchenchefs traditionelle und saisonale Gerichte an, wie zum Beispiel Eintöpfe und Suppen, gegrilltes Fleisch oder Fisch und typische Spezialitäten der Inseln. Wir können uns als ein mediterranes Restaurant beschreiben. Aufgrund unserer internationalen Gäste sind unsere typischen Gerichte wie zum Beispiel Tapas, iberische Produkte, Pfannengerichte, etc. unter den Ausländern sehr beliebt.

Welche Art von Gastronomie bietet ein führender Golfclub wie Son Muntaner an?Neben den typischen Klassikern sind in Son Muntaner die iberischen Fleischgerichte vom Grill und die Fischgerichte sehr beliebt, vor allem am Wochenende. An diesen Tagen besuchen uns besonders viele Menschen, die kein Golf spielen.

Und in Son Vida?Son Vida ist eher auf Tapas und Gerichte zum Teilen spezialisiert. Natürlich sind die „4 Klassiker“ ebenfalls auf der Karte vorhanden. Die am meisten bestellten Tapas Gerichte sind unsere Rühreier in der Pfanne mit hausgemachten Bratkartoffeln und iberischem Schinken, Garnelen-Kroketten, Schweinefilet-Spiee, der Teller mit mallorquinischen Wurstspezialitäten und die „Patatas Bravas“.

Welches Gericht ist Ihrer Meinung nach das Beliebteste in den beiden Restaurants?In Son Muntaner ist der Hamburger „Son Muntaner“ am beliebtesten, während es in Son Vida die Rühreier in der Pfanne mit hausgemachten Bratkartoffeln und iberischem Schinken sind.

2 l. de vino tinto de cocinar1 manojo de tomillo fresco

Harina, pimentón, sal y pimienta

Se salan las carrilleras. Se pone en un recipiente ½ kg de harina con 3 cucharadas colmadas de pimentón y se mezcla todo. Se pasan las carrilleras por la mezcla. Se pone

una sartén con aceite a fuego fuerte y se fríen las carrilleras 3-4 min. cada vez hasta

que queden doradas. Reservar.

En una olla grande se pone un poco de aceite de oliva y se sofríen los ajos enteros.

Cuando están dorados se le añade la cebolla troceada, se rehoga 5 min. y se

añade la zanahoria y el manojo de tomillo, se rehoga un par de minutos más y se

añaden las carrilleras, inmediatamente se le añade el vino y se deja que se reduzca 2/3 partes removiendo de vez en cuando. A continuación se añade el doble de agua

que del volumen de carne que haya. Cuando comience a hervir se baja a medio gas

el fuego y se deja que vaya reduciendo el liquido sin mover demasiado.

Dependiendo del tamaño de las carrilleras tardan entre 1h 30 min y 2 h, cuando estén

se sacan escurridas y se reservan.

De lo que queda en la olla, se sacan las ramas de tomillo y lo que queda se pone

en un vaso para triturar y se cuela por un colador medio. Se vuelve a juntar las

carrilleras con la salsa y se sirve. Se puede acompañar con setas de temporada

salteadas, puré de patatas, arroz,...

Mehl, Paprikapulver, Salz und Pfeffer

Die Schweinebacken salzen. 500 g Mehl mit 3 gehäuften Esslöffeln

Paprikapulver in eine Schüssel geben und richtig durchmischen. Die Schweinebacken mit der Mischung

bestreichen. Eine Pfanne mit Öl stark erhitzen und die Schweinebacken

3 bis 4 Minuten auf jeder Seite goldbraun braten. Dann auf die Seite

stellen.

Ein bisschen Olivenöl in einen großen Topf geben und den gesamten

Knoblauch anbraten. Sobald dieser goldbraun gebraten ist, werden die

klein gehackten Zwiebeln hinzugefügt und 5 Minuten lang zusammen angedünstet. Dann werden die

Karotten und das Bündel Thymian hinzugefügt und alles erneut für ein paar weitere Minuten angebraten. Die Schweinebacken in den Topf hinzugeben und sofort mit dem

Wein übergießen. 2/3 der Flüssigkeit einkochen und gelegentlich

umrühren. Danach die doppelte Menge Wasser im Vergleich zum

Fleisch hinzufügen. Sobald das Ganze anfängt zu kochen, auf mittlere Hitze

zurückdrehen und die Flüssigkeit einkochen lassen, ohne zu viel zu

rühren.

Season the cheeks with salt. Add ½

kg of flour and 3 heaped tablespoons paprika and mix it all up. Dip in the pork cheeks and fry the cheeks for

3-4 minutes in an oil frying pan until golden brown. Leave to rest.

Pour some olive oil into a large pot and fry the whole garlic heads until brown. Chop the onions and sauté with the garlic for about 5 minutes.

Add the carrots and the thyme and fry gently for a few more minutes. Add

the cheeks and then the wine and let it reduce by 2/3, stirring occasionally.

Add twice as much water as the meat. When it starts boiling, reduce to medium heat and leave the liquid

to boil down without stirring too much.

It will take between 1.5 hours and 2 hours depending on the size of the cheeks. When done, remove them

from the pot, drain and leave aside.

Remove the thyme twigs and pour the remaining sauce into a glass.

Grind and strain through a medium mesh sieve. Mix the cheeks and the sauce again and serve up. This dish

combines perfectly with sautéed mushrooms, potato mash, rice...

¿Cómo comenzasteis en el mundo del golf?Juan Muñoz Comencé con 3 años, pero anteriormente, allá

en Blackpool le veía dar bolas a mi padre, con un frío de narices. Cuando comencé a caminar y sostenerme me dieron el primer palo. Juego al golf desde que tengo uso de razón. Forma parte de mi vida al 100%, no entiendo mi vida sin golf.

Jorge Muñoz Me fui al Reino Unido con 26 años a hacer la especialidad de pediatría. Siempre me ha gustado el deporte, de hecho en esa época navegaba bastante. En Gran Bretaña me quedaba algo corto de deportes y no tenía afición a correr como tengo ahora. Al lado del hospital había un campo de golf municipal y me animé con un compañero de profesión. Algunas clases y me enganché. Me servía para desconectar. Diez años después vine a Mallorca y me pasé por Son Muntaner a preguntar y aquí iniciamos nuestra andadura golfista mallorquina. Luego lo dejé (aunque os reto en el putting green al acabar la entrevista) y comencé a disfrutar del golf de otra manera, viendo disfrutar a Juan. Ahora sabe que en breve tendrá que darme algunas clases.

¿Habéis compartido experiencias competitivas?Juan Muñoz Sí, una muy bonita. Un torneo padres – hijos en la península. Coincidimos con Juan Quirós, gran amigo de mi padre.

¿Cuál fue el resultado?Juan Muñoz Lo pasamos muy bien, no nos hicimos daño (carcajadas). Era lo de menos..Jorge Muñoz Mal resultado por mi culpa, jugué fatal.

Y de piques, ¿cómo andáis? Jorge Muñoz Que buena pregunta, nunca nos habíamos parado a pensar… Lo cierto es que creo que no nos hemos picado ni en el golf ni en nada… ¡Bueno bueno! Miento, nos picamos en el putting green que es donde le ponía en aprietos.

¿Alguna anécdota?Jorge Muñoz Sí, me acuerdo de un bolazo que me dio Juan en la espinilla, cuando él tenía 10 años. Bola en el rough y yo estaba

JORGE MUÑOZ RUEDA | JUAN MUÑOZ ABIEGA Para el cara a cara de este número entrevistamos al pediatra Jorge Muñoz Rueda y a su hijo, Juan Muñoz Abiega, estudiante de último año en la UGPM Málaga y golfista amateur. Quedamos en la

cafetería de Arabella Golf Son Muntaner, y disfrutamos de una conversación entrañable que hace que el tiempo se nos pase volando.

How did you get into the world of golf?

Juan Muñoz I started out when I was only 3 years old, although I had already seen my dad hit the ball in the cold Blackpool. They gave me my first club right after I learned to walk. I have been playing golf as far back as I can remember. It plays a major role in my life. I can’t imagine my life without it.Jorge Muñoz I moved to the UK at 26 for the paediatric specialty training. I have always loved sport. In fact, I was sailing a lot back then. When I lived in the UK, I didn’t do much sport and I didn’t like jogging as much as I do now. There was a golf course close to the hospital, so I decided to go play there with a work colleague. I took some lessons and I got hooked to it. It helped me relax. I moved to Majorca ten years later and came to

Son Muntaner to ask. That’s how I started playing golf here on the island. I quitted playing later on (although I challenge you on the putting green after the interview) and started enjoying golf in a different way, watching Juan play. Now he knows I’ll soon need to take a few lessons from him.

Have you played any tournaments together?Juan Muñoz Yes, and it was great. It was a parent-child tournament held on the mainland. Juan Quirós, a great friend of my father’s, also took part in the event.

And what was the outcome?Juan Muñoz We had a great time. We didn’t hurt each other (laughs). Winning was the least important thing. Jorge Muñoz We didn’t win because of me. I played very badly.

Are you competitive with one another? Jorge Muñoz That’s a really good question, it has actually never crossed our minds… The truth is that we have never teased each other, neither in golf nor in anything else… Hold on! That’s not true. It got very competitive on the putting green, as I often put him in an awkward situation.

adelantado, en el sitio que no debía, y zaska…Juan Muñoz Qué anécdota más bonita padre – hijo. Papá, te quiero mucho. Ja ja ja… Jorge Muñoz Recuerdo también el Magnum que se llevó con 12 añitos en una bola más cercana en el 13 de Son Muntaner. Una botella más grande que él. Juan Muñoz Ir a Son Muntaner a pegar bolas a las 6,00 horas de la mañana (prácticamente de noche), estar allí una hora, y venir mi padre a recogerme para ir al Colegio… Entrenar antes de ir al Colegio… Qué buenos momentos y cuántas anécdotas podría contar. Juan, ¿deporte y estudios es una gran ecuación? Juan Muñoz Sin duda. ¡Son experiencias que te das para toda la vida, te dan muchas posibilidades para el futuro! Contactos, conocer gente, abrirte a nuevas cosas, disciplina y afrontar los miedos de una forma mucho más óptima (gracias al deporte disipas muchos de tus miedos). Tanto mi experiencia en USA como estos años en Málaga han sido el trampolín que me permite afrontar mi futuro personal y profesional de la mejor forma. Por ello animo a simultanear deporte y estudios. Jorge Muñoz Por supuesto que aconsejaría simultanear y estudios y golf como dice Juan, aunque no es menos cierto que es un binomio complicado en el sistema educativo español.

¿Cómo te planteas el futuro deportivo? ¿Te gustaría dar el paso y ser jugador profesional? Juan Muñoz Estos últimos cinco meses me lo he planteado, no he dejado de darle vueltas. En la vida como en el deporte hay un punto en el que tienes que decidir. Enfocar adecuadamente tu futuro. Tienes que saber cuál es tu nivel y plantearte el modo óptimo de ganarte la vida. Después de haberlo analizado he decidido sacarme el título de TDI y dedicarme a la enseñanza del golf no a la práctica competitiva. Ha sido mi sueño, pero he creído que no es la forma de ganarme la vida que debía elegir. He sido realista y práctico.

Jorge Muñoz Hay un momento en la vida -lo que decía Juan- en el que

debes tomar decisiones para afrontar el futuro de forma óptima. Dijo Seve Ballesteros que “lo peor es que desees hacer algo y ni siquiera lo intentes”. Si lo intentas, nadie va a poder decirte no lo has intentado. Juan lo ha intentado, pero ha tomado una decisión realista. El deporte le ha aportado y le aporta muchísimo, pero ha visto que el mundo de la alta competición no puede ser su modo de vida. Haber compaginado estudios y deporte le da, desde la madurez, la posibilidad de afrontar proyectos empresariales muy ilusionantes. Tomando estas decisiones te quitas mucho peso de tu mochila de la vida. Me siento tan orgulloso del esfuerzo por alcanzar su sueño como de la decisión que ha tomado de no hacerse golfista profesional y competir. Los padres deben apoyar a sus hijos, no tomar las decisiones por ellos. Y yo le voy a apoyar tanto si decide un planteamiento con el deporte como bandera como si decide abrir un circo en Madrid. ¿Cómo ves el nivel del golf balear y el español? Juan Muñoz La verdad es que muy bien. Desde que yo empecé hasta ahora ha mejorado bastante. En la generación anterior a mí había jugadores potentes, como Pep Juaneda, Toni Ferrer, Miguel Pujalte… Pero cuando llegué yo el nivel como que se disipó un poco. Y en la actualidad el nivel vuelve a ser altísimo. Las escuelas de golf están trabajando muy bien y en la Federación Balear se están haciendo las cosas fenomenalmente, más aún desde la incorporación de Mario Rapado. Estoy muy ilusionado por ver qué chavales salen de aquí.Jorge Muñoz No lo sigo tan de cerca desde que Juan no está aquí, pero ciertamente el golf balear es óptimo, con Nuria Iturrios y Luna Sobrón en el campo profesional y con infinidad de chicos destacando gracias al trabajo de las escuelas y de la Federación. En el ámbito nacional Jon Rahm tira de un gran elenco de profesionales con el espíritu de Seve en la memoria y tenemos a chicos y chicas triunfando en todo el mundo (López Chacarra, Alex del Rey, Ana Peláez, Marta Pérez…). Quiero aprovechar esta ocasión para mandar un abrazo muy fuerte a Marcos Barquín y Miriam Arozamena, padres de Celia Barquín, a quien siempre recordaremos.

Is there any anecdote you would like to share with us?Jorge Muñoz Yes. I remember that Juan once played a ball from the rough and hit me on the shinbone. He was 10. I was ahead of him, at the wrong place and… bang!Juan Muñoz What a nice father-son moment. I love you very much Dad. Hahaha… Jorge MuñozI also remember when he won a Magnum bottle when he was only 12 years old after he hit the ball close to Hole 13 at Son Muntaner. The bottle was almost bigger than him.Juan Muñoz I used to come to Son Muntaner to practice at 6 am (almost before sunrise). I would play for one hour and my father would then come pick me up to take me to school. I used to train before school. It was a really great time. There are so many moments and anecdotes I could tell you about! Juan, are sport and university a good combination? Juan Muñoz Definitely. Both experiences stay with you forever and offer great opportunities for the future! Networking, open-mindedness, discipline and courage to face fears in the best possible way (sport helps you dispel most of your fears). The years I spent in the USA and Malaga have given me the tools I need to face my personal and professional career in the best possible manner. I really encourage others to simultaneously combine training and studies.Jorge Muñoz Combining your studies with golf as Juan just said is great, although mixing both things is complicated in the Spanish educational system.

What are your future sport goals? Would you like to make the move to professional golf?Juan Muñoz I’ve been thinking about it over the last five months. In sports and in life, at some point you have to make a decision about your future. You have to know what level you are at and assess the best way to make a living. After thoroughly considering my options, I have come to the conclusion that I want to obtain the TDI certificate and work as a golf trainer instead of competing. Professional golf has always been a dream for me, but I know

it’s not the best way for me to make a living. I am realistic and practical.Jorge Muñoz As Juan said, at some point in life you have to make important decisions so that you face the future in the best possible way. As Seve Ballesteros once said, “The worst thing you can do is to wish something and not even try.” If you try, nobody can tell you that you didn’t. Juan tried it but made a realistic decision about his future. Sport has given and still gives him many good things, but he has understood that elite sport is not his thing. Combining studies and sport has given him the opportunity to face very exciting entrepreneurial projects. This decision has taken a load off Juan’s mind. I am very proud of the effort he has made to chase his dream but also of the decision he has made to not play professional and compete. Parents must support their children and not make decisions for them. I will always support him, whether he decides to make a living out of sport or open a circus in Madrid.

What is your opinion of golf in the Balearic Islands and Spain? Juan Muñoz It’s actually very good. It has improved a lot since I first started out. The generation before me had very strong players such as Pep Juaneda, Toni Ferrer, Miguel Pujalte… However, the level decreased slightly when I arrived, but now it’s as good as it was back then. Golf academies are doing a great job and the Balearic Federation is brilliant at what it does, particularly since Mario Rapado joined the team. I can’t wait to see new home-grown players.Jorge Muñoz I haven’t been following golf as closely since Juan left, but Balearic golf is certainly excellent. Nuria Iturrios and Luna Sobrón are great professional players, and there are many outstanding young players thanks to the academies and the Federation. Jon Rahm is one of the country’s leading professional players, with the same spirit as Seve, but there are also young players doing extremely well all over the world (López Chacarra, Alex del Rey, Ana Peláez, Marta Pérez…). I would like to take this opportunity to send all my love to Marcos Barquín and Miriam Arozamena, the parents of Celia Barquín. She will always be in our hearts.

Wie seid ihr zum Golf gekommen? Juan Muñoz: Ich habe mit drei Jahren begonnen,

aber vorher habe ich bei furchtbarer Kälte meinem Vater in Blackpool beim Bälle schlagen zugesehen. Nachdem ich angefangen habe zu gehen und mich auf den Beinen halten konnte, gaben sie mir meinen ersten Schläger. Ich spiele Golf seitdem ich denken kann. Das Golfspiel ist 100 % Teil meines Lebens. Ich kann mir ein Leben ohne Golf nicht vorstellen. Jorge Muñoz: Ich bin mit 26 Jahren nach England gegangen, um dort meine Spezialisierung auf Kinderheilkunde zu absolvieren. Ich war immer sehr sportbegeistert und zu dieser Zeit habe ich viel gesegelt. In Großbritannien habe ich dann weniger Sport gemacht und war nicht so vom Laufen begeistert, wie ich es heute bin. Neben dem Krankenhaus gab es einen Golfplatz und ein Arbeitskollege und ich motivierten uns gegenseitig. Einige Trainingsstunden später und ich wurde süchtig. Ich nutzte es zum Entspannen. Zehn Jahre später kam ich nach Mallorca und ich fuhr in Son Muntaner vorbei und hier begann unsere mallorquinische Golfzeit. Später hörte ich auf mit dem Spielen (obwohl wenn Ihr wollt könnt Ihr mich auf dem Putting Green herausfordern) und genoss den Golf auf eine andere Art und Weise, indem ich Juan beim Spielen zusah. Jetzt weiß er, dass er mir bald ein paar Trainingsstunden geben muss.

Habt ihr gemeinsam Wettbewerbe gespielt?Juan Muñoz: Ja, einige sehr schöne, z.B. ein Eltern-Kinder-

Turnier auf dem Festland. Wir haben uns dort mit Juan Quirós getroffen, einem großem

Freund meines Vaters.

Wie war das Ergebnis?Juan Muñoz: Wir hatten sehr viel Spaß und haben uns nicht wehgetan (Gelächter). Gewinnen war nicht so wichtig.Jorge Muñoz: Ein schlechtes Ergebnis durch meine Schuld. Ich habe fatal gespielt.

Seid Ihr Konkurrenten beim Spiel? Jorge Muñoz: Eine sehr gute Frage. Wir haben noch niemals darüber nachgedacht. Ehrlich gesagt glaube ich, dass wir uns noch niemals gegenseitig geärgert haben, weder beim Golf noch sonst irgendwo. Stopp, ich lüge! Wir ärgern uns gegenseitig im Putting Green, wo ich ihn mehrmals in Bedrängnis gebracht habe.

Gibt es eine schöne Anekdote?Jorge Muñoz: Ja, ich kann mich an einen Schlag von Juan erinnern, der mich am Schienbein traff. Er war da gerade 10 Jahre alt. Der Ball war im Rough und ich war weiter vorne, an einem Ort, wo ich nicht hätte sein sollen und zack….Juan Muñoz: Was für eine schöne Vater-Sohn-Anekdote. Ich liebe dich Papa. Hahaha… Jorge Muñoz: Ich erinnere mich auch an die Magnum Flasche, die er als 12-jähriger bei einem Schlag in der Nähe des 13. Lochs in Son M u n ta n e r g e w a n n .

Für unser Face-to-Face Gespräch in dieser Ausgabe interviewen wir den Kinderarzt Jorge Muñoz Rueda und seinen Sohn Juan Muñoz Abiega, Student im letzten Jahr an der UGPM Málaga und Amateurgolfer. Wir haben uns in der Cafeteria Arabella Golf Son Muntaner getroffen und ein liebenswertes Gespräch

geführt, bei dem die Zeit nur so verflogen ist.

Eine Flasche, die größer war als er. Juan Muñoz: Morgens früh um 6:00 in Son Muntaner, ein paar Bälle schlagen, noch fast mitten in der Nacht. Ich war dort eine Stunde und dann holte mich mein Vater ab und brachte mich zur Schule. Was für tolle Momente. Ich könnte so viele Anekdoten erzählen.

Juan, passen Sport und Studium gut zusammen? Juan Muñoz: Ohne Zweifel. Das sind Erfahrungen für das ganze Leben und sie geben dir viele Möglichkeiten für die Zukunft. Kontakte, Leute kennenlernen, aufgeschlossen sein für neue Dinge, Disziplin und man tritt den Ängsten ganz anders gegenüber. Dank des Sports beseitigt man einige seiner Ängste. Sowohl meine Erfahrung in den USA als auch die Zeit in Málaga waren ein Trampolin für mich, das mir hilft mich meiner persönlichen und beruflichen Zukunft so gut wie möglich zu stellen. Aus diesem Grund ermutige ich die Leute Sport und Studium zu kombinieren. Jorge Muñoz: Natürlich sehe ich das genauso wie Juan und empfehle gleichzeitig zu studieren und Golf zu spielen. Tatsächlich ist es jedoch ein kompliziertes Bionom im spanischen Ausbildungssystem.

Wie planst du deine sportliche Zukunft? Würdest du gerne den Schritt zum Golfprofi machen? Juan Muñoz: In den letzten fünf Monaten habe ich es mir überlegt und ich habe sehr ausgiebig darüber nachgedacht. Im Leben genauso wie beim Sport musst du dich zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt entscheiden und sich angemessen darauf fokussieren. Du musst dein Niveau kennen und den besten Weg finden, wie du dein Leben gestalten willst. Nachdem ich das Ganze analysiert habe, habe ich mich entschieden den TDI Abschluss zu machen und mich dem Golfunterricht zu widmen anstatt dem Wettbewerb. Es war für mich ein Traum, aber ich glaube, dass es nicht die Art und Weise ist, wie ich mein Leben bestreiten soll. Ich bin Realist.Jorge Muñoz: Es gibt einen Moment im Leben, wie es Juan schon sagte, in dem du Entscheidungen treffen musst, um am besten für die Zukunft gerüstet zu sein. Seve Ballesteros hat gesagt, „dass das Schlimmste sei etwas zu wünschen zu tun und es nicht einmal zu versuchen.“ Wenn du es versuchst, wird dir niemand s a g e n

können, dass du es nicht versucht hast. Juan hat es versucht, er hat jedoch eine realistische Entscheidung getroffen. Der Sport hat ihm sehr geholfen und hilft ihm weiterhin sehr viel. Er hat jedoch gemerkt, dass die Welt des großen Wettbewerbs nicht seiner Lebensart entspricht. Die Verbindung Studium und Sport gibt ihm die Möglichkeit sehr spannende unternehmerische Projekte anzugehen. Wenn man diese Entscheidung trifft, fällt sehr viel Ballast von einem ab. Ich bin sehr stolz auf die Anstrengung, die er betrieben hat, um seinen Traum zu verwirklichen und auf die Entscheidung, die er getroffen hat, kein Golfprofi zu werden. Eltern sollten ihre Kinder unterstützen und nicht die Entscheidungen für sie treffen. Ich werde ihn immer unterstützen, egal ob er sich auf den Sport fokussiert oder einen Zirkus in Madrid eröffnen möchte.

Wie seht ihr das Golfniveau auf den Balearen und in Spanien? Juan Muñoz: Ehrlich gesagt, sehr gut. Seitdem ich begonnen habe bis heute hat sich das Niveau enorm verbessert. In der Generation vor mir gab es sehr gute Spieler, wie Pep Juaneda, Toni Ferrer und Miguel Pujalte. Aber als ich begann ging das Niveau ein wenig zurück. Heute ist das Niveau wieder sehr hoch. Die Golfschulen arbeiten sehr gut und im balearischen Golfverband machen sie eine hervorragende Arbeit, insbesondere nachdem Mario Rapado dazugekommen ist. Ich bin sehr gespannt, welche Talente hier entwickelt werden. Jorge Muñoz: Ich verfolge das nicht mehr so genau, seitdem Juan nicht mehr dabei ist. Der balearische Golf hat jedoch ein sehr hohes Niveau mit Nuria Iturrios und Luna Sobrón im Profibereich und mit einigen herausragenden Jungs, dank der sehr guten Arbeit der Schulen und des Verbands. Auf nationaler Ebene ist Jon Rahm ein herrausragender Profi mit dem Geist von Seve im Gedächnis. Wir haben viele Spieler und Spielerinen, die auf der ganzen Welt triumphieren (López Chacarra, Alex del Rey, Ana Peláez, Marta Pérez…). Ich möchte auch die Gelegenheit nutzen, um eine große Umarmung an Marcos Barquín und Miriam Arozamena, Eltern von Celia Barquín, zu senden, die wir nie vergessen werden.

La RFEG publicó, con motivo de las nuevas reglas de golf 2019, unas tarjetas con los 20 principales cambios. Después de un trimestre y varias pruebas arbitradas, se puede hacer un resumen de cómo han afectado los cambios a las competiciones y también al día a día.

Dropa desde la altura de la rodilla (NO desde el hombro).La rutina de muchos años dropando desde la altura del hombro ha hecho que a menudo los jugadores sigan dropando o iniciando la acción de dropar como antes. En general, o el propio jugador se da cuenta del error, o algún compañero lo advierte y como no hay penalización si no se ha jugado la bola, se dropa correctamente y ningún problema.

Cuando dropes en línea hacia atrás, tu bola no puede jugarse más cerca del hoyo que el punto de referencia que hayas elegido.Es uno de los cambios que menos claro tienen los jugadores. Si marcan el punto les ayuda a determinar el área de alivio, pero no tienen claro que, si no marcan el punto de referencia, es donde la bola golpea el campo por primera vez y si la bola se acerca al hoyo no están jugando desde el área de alivio. Hay que hacer más hincapié en este cambio.

Tiempo de búsqueda - 3 minutos (NO 5 minutos).Está claro que ayuda a mejorar el ritmo de juego. Los jugadores no acostumbran a controlar el tiempo, pero los árbitros sí.

No hay penalización si tu bola golpea el asta de la bandera cuando has elegido dejarla en el hoyo.Los jugadores, en general, están jugando con la bandera puesta en los putts largos o muy cortos. Hay más dudas cuando se trata de putts de entre 1 y 3 metros. Parece que mejora el ritmo de juego.

Se pueden reparar las marcas de clavos y otros daños producido por zapatos en el green.Uno de las dudas que había es si ralentizaría el juego. En general no ha sido el caso.

Las áreas de penalización reemplazan los obstáculos de agua, y puedes mover impedimentos sueltos, apoyar tu palo y ejecutar golpes de práctica en las áreas de penalización sin penalización, al igual que puedes hacerlos en el fairway (calle) o en el rough.El jugador no actúa cohibido y, en general, va más rápido a jugar su bola o sale del área con penalización.

Due to the new golf rules for 2019, the RFEG (Spanish short form for Royal Spanish Golf Federation) has published cards explaining the 20 main rule changes. A quarter and several refereed games later, a summary may now be made of how changes have actually affected tournaments and everyday golf practice.

You can now drop from knee height (NOT from shoulder height).Players have been dropping the ball from knee height for many years, so many keep dropping or starting to drop as usual. Die RFEG (spanische Abkürzung für Königlicher Golfverband Spaniens) hat aufgrund der Golfregeländerungen für 2019 Karten veröffentlicht, die die 20 wichtigsten Änderungen beinhalten. Da nun ein Quartal vergangen ist und mehrere Wettbewerbe mit Schiedsrichtern stattgefunden haben, ist es nun an der Zeit die Auswirkungen der Regeländerungen auf die Turniere und auf das tägliche Spiel zusammenzufassen.

Aus Kniehöhe droppen (NICHT aus Schulterhöhe).Aus langjähriger Gewohnheit droppen viele Spieler immer noch aus Schulterhöhe oder beginnen ihren Bewegungsablauf wie üblich. Allgemein ist es der Spieler, der den Fehler selbst bemerkt oder ein Mitspieler, dem der Fehler auffällt. Da es keine Strafe gibt, solange man den Ball noch nicht gespielt hat, kann man ihn erneut droppen und es ist dann kein Problem.

Wenn man zum Droppen nach hinten geht, kann der Ball nicht näher an das Loch gespielt werden als der vom Spieler ausgewählte Referenzpunkt.

Es handelt sich um eine der für die Spieler unklarsten Regeländerungen. Wenn sie den Punkt markieren,

hilft dies, um die sogenannte Relief Area festzulegen. Für die Spieler ist jedoch nicht klar, dass wenn sie den Referenzpunkt nicht selbst markieren, die Stelle als Relief Area gilt, wo der Ball zum ersten Mal auf den Boden gefallen ist. Wenn sich der Ball näher am Loch befindet, spielen sie nicht aus der Relief Area. Diese Regeländerung sollte noch besser erklärt werden.

Suchzeit - 3 Minuten (NICHT 5 Minuten).Es ist verständlich, dass diese Änderung den Spielrhythmus verbessert. Die Spieler sind es nicht gewohnt die Zeit zu kontrollieren, aber die Schiedsrichter schon.

Keine Hilfe durch Caddie oder Mitspieler beim Ausrichten.Es handelt sich um die umstrittenste Regeländerung für Profispieler. Für Amateure ist sie nur bei Spielen zu zweit relevant. Die Spieler denken, dass diese Änderung nur für Caddies gedacht ist. Sie sollten darüber informiert werden.

Siempre que imparto clases, da igual el nivel, desde principiantes a profesionales, la posición es muy importante. Lo defino con una frase que dice así:

“Una buena posición no te garantiza un buen swing, pero una mala posición te asegura un mal swing”.

Tenemos varias cosas a considerar en una posición inicial de golf, pero hoy nos centraremos en la distancia correcta a la bola.

La distancia a la bola es importantísima para tener un impacto regular y, por supuesto, hay que mantener esa distancia en cada golpe y con cada palo. En la posición inicial buscaremos esa distancia dejando caer los brazos c o m p l e t a m e n t e relajados hacia el suelo. Esa relajación de los brazos no solamente nos ayudará a tener la distancia exacta del cuerpo al palo, sino que además esa distancia será exactamente igual con cada palo, y nos ayudará también a conseguir un buen balanceo del swing, un plano correcto y una línea de swing correcta.

PPosition is always crucial, no matter the

level, from beginners to professionals. In my opinion, a good position doesn’t always lead to a good swing, but a bad position leads to a bad swing most of the times. There are several aspects we should consider before each takeaway swing. Today we will be taking a look at the right distance to the ball. The distance to the ball is extremely important for a consistent swing. You have to keep the same distance in each shot and no matter which club you are using. To “measure” the right distance between your body and the ball, get in your swing posture and let your arms hang freely. In time, you’ll develop a natural feel for the correct distance with each club as well as a good swing balance, a right swing plane and a nice line of play.

Golf position (2): distance to ball is key for a consistent swing

Beim Training, egal welches Niveau, vom Anfänger bis zum Profi, spielt die Position

eine wichtige Rolle. Der folgende Satz beschreibt es sehr gut: „Eine gute Position garantiert keinen guten Schwung, aber eine schlechte Position bedeutet immer einen schlechten Schwung“.

Es gibt mehrere Aspekte, die ein Golfer bei der Startposition beachten muss. Heute fokussieren wir uns jedoch auf die richtige Distanz zum Ball.

Die Distanz zum Ball ist extrem wichtig, um einen guten Schlag

abzugeben. Natürlich muss die Distanz bei jedem Schlag und mit jedem Golfschläger beibehalten

werden. Um die richtige Distanz zu finden, lassen wir bei der Startposition die Arme

entspannt zum Boden hängen. Dies hilft uns den richtigen Abstand vom Körper zum Schläger zu finden. Die Distanz ist immer die gleiche, egal mit welchem Schläger.

Zudem hilft sie uns ein gutes Gleichgewicht beim Schlag und

die richtige Schwungebene und Schwunglinie zu erreichen.
