Wear orange & say NO to violence against women & girls!

Thus announced by the United Nations Secretary-General in May 2012 in line with the UNiTE campaign proclaiming every 25th of the month as Orange Day!

The Z Club of Laguna and Golden Z Club of Laguna join the youth around the world in proclaiming 25th of every month, starting with 25 July and leading up to 25 November, as the International Day to End Violence against Women, as an

Orange Day, a day for taking action.

They urge everyone to wear something orange on every 25th of the month. The girls also made and wear blue and orange ribbons which served as the global symbol to end all forms of violence against women & girls!

On August 25, they change their Facebook cover with the ad campaign to make a resounding support to say No to all forms of violence against women.

Despite having to attend six different high schools, she was able to graduate on time.

Earhart was called “Lady Lindy” because her slim build and facial features resembled that of Charles Lindbergh.

Earhart refused to don typical flying gear -she wore a suit or dress instead of the “high-bread aviation togs,” a close-fitting hat instead of a helmet, didn’t put on her goggles until she taxied to the end of the field and removed them immediately upon landing.

She developed a friendship with Eleanor Roosevelt, who wanted to learn how to fly. Earhart had planned to teach her, for which the First Lady even got her student permit.

Earhart met Orville Wright at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia in 1937, the same year she disappeared.

Earhart had such an impression on public that people often wrote and told her about naming babies, lakes and even homing pigeons “Amelia.”

She was the 16th woman to receive a pilot’s license from the FAI (License No. 6017).

Through the years, the members of the Golden Z Club had mobilized their classmates and friends to continue dropping their loose change for their “Change for the Better Project”. Last year, GZ aimed at raising fund to support Visayan Forum’s campaign against human trafficking. It’s an NGO that works for the ‘protection of vulnerable migrants including victims of human trafficking, domestic servitude, forced labor and other modern-day forms of slavery.’

The GZ Clubbers distributed tin cans to various classes and offices to raise funds and helped the foundation in its projects. Founder Cecilia Flores-Oebanda received the donation of P30,000 from the GZ Clubbers. It would be used in the service projects to empower the victims. Consequently, the donation was made during the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

In support of the vision of a nation united, empowered, and sustained by its cultural life and heritage, the Golden Z Clubbers spearheaded the

celebration of the National Costume Week. The program was dubbed Culture, Fashion and Substance, a cultural fashion show that served as a tribute to women of grace and beauty.

The GZ Clubbers implemented the “Wear a Red Ribbon Campaign”; the ribbon is an international symbol of AIDS awareness to demonstrate care and concern about HIV and AIDS. To raise awareness, the GZ Clubbers pinned the red ribbon to their schoolmates, teachers, non-teaching staff and parents. The girls focused on propagating for zero discrimination for AIDS victims. They also displayed pictures and posters to raise AIDS awareness.

Inspired by the strength of their tri-focal programs that have been running for the past eleven years namely Literacy Program, Livelihood Program and Health Education program, the GZ Clubbers, expanded its reach and decided to choose one impoverish community as its adopted community. They volunteered to be a part of empowering the community in

Golden Z Club of SMCL Service Projects 2011-2012collaboration with the LINGAP Foundation.

Creating a positive impact in an indigent community, the Golden Z Clubbers initiated the putting up of two markers in the national road. The first marker urged every passer-by to stop all forms of violence to young girls and women; the other one encouraged everyone to reduce, reuse and recycle. Both elicited positive responses since the community started to embrace waste management.

The President of the GZ Club attended as an official delegate to the 16th Zonta International District 17 Conference held on August 26-28 at Sofitel Hotel. She had the chance to meet the Zonta International President, Diane Curtis, DG Georgitta Puyat,

International Z and GZ Clubs Chair, Virma vergel de Dios and other Zontian dignitaries who awarded the Emma Conlon Service Award for her club.

Inspired by the will to serve, the members of the Golden Z Club held a series of shoe-giving events in the community. Pupils from the five elementary public schools received their TOMS shoes from the GZ Clubbers.

Prior to the Shoe-give event, the ladies did the rounds in the public schools and painstakingly got their measurements. Preferred beneficiaries were those with worn out shoes. The beneficiaries will be given their shoes every six to eight months for a minimum period of two years.

Z Club members share their expertise to students who need academic assistance in three core subjects: English, Science and Mathematics. It was a two-fold-program: remedial and enrichment. The former was for those who need extensive review; the latter was for advanced students.

Z Club collaborated with the Center for Students and Co-curricular Activities during the Club Enlistment Day. Z Club officers presented the objects of the Z Club Program and Zonta International through a multimedia presentation and a guided visit to the Zonta International website. Some officers shared their rewarding experiences as Z Clubbers. To raise awareness about the Z Club, they showed an audio-visual presentation of the prominent women achievers namely Amelia Earhart, Jane Klausman and Emma Conlon.

Addressing the

millennium goal of achieving universal primary education, the Z Clubbers campaigned for the Every-Child-a-Reader Program that will enable every child to attain reading competencies according to their grade level. The Z Clubbers had their Book Talk where they shared their “reading stories” – how they learn to read, people who influenced them to read and what they get from reading. Z Clubbers led the Readers’ Pledge where they promise to support the printed word and all its forms and to help children to develop a love for reading.

Enhancing their school’s Community Outreach Day-care Program, the Z Clubbers donated a Playland to the 100 kids who are the beneficiaries of the Literacy Program. Responding to the request of the adopted public school and the municipality council, the members of the ZC decided to raise fund to put up the

Playland for the kids’ leisure before and after their day-care sessions.

In collaboration with the Body Shop, the Z Clubbers launched a local campaign to Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People. Working alongside with a non-government organization, End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes, the campaign aimed to raise awareness and vital funds for victims or those at risk of trafficking.

Addressing the various types of crimes proliferating recently due to social networking, the Z Clubbers initiated the move to be a partner of a local TV station in its call for responsible networking. The girls invited a female broadcast media celebrity who talked on the importance of social media, their limitations and the rules to be observed.

The President of the Z Club attended as an official delegate to the 16th Zonta International District 17

Conference held on August 26-28 at Sofitel Hotel.

She had the chance to meet the Zonta International President, Diane Curtis who also awarded the Emma Conlon Service Award for her club.

For the past four years, the Z Clubbers have been spearheading the annual celebration of International Day of Peace through the Ring for Peace activity. Members of the community rang their bells for sixty seconds; then, the campus went silent for a minute to lift up everyone’s petition for world peace and non-violence.

Believing in the women’s role in weathering climate change through governance and individual accountability, the Z Club members organized a symposium in celebration of the International Women’s Day.

They invited a Congresswoman whose advocacies include women empowerment, environmental management and gender equality. She shared the many ways that every Z Clubber could do to prevent any further nature-related disaster brought about by people’s reckless disregard to the environment.
