I have often wondered what brings life to a toastmasters meeting? What sets a meeting

apart from another? Is it the speakers or the role players? Is it the speaking styles and

strong speech messages, or the “air of freshness” that make a meeting truly remarkable?

While each one complements the other, the importance of role players in shaping up a

meeting, cannot be ignored.

A leader’s role is not just to organize the regular meetings, but to inspire the members to

visit the club, over and over again. To achieve this, members pursuing their leadership

roles should try to bring in that spark, elements of innovation, into their roles which makes

their contribution stand out from the crowd.

A great way to achieve this is to have interesting themes, and put in a little thought and

planning in executing it. You will be surprised to find out that how this can transform,

which would have been a normal meeting into a vibrant gathering, where participants will

cherish it for a long time to come.

At our Club level, we have seen shoots of these innovations happening in our recent

meetings, like the theme on “Parliamentary procedure” and “traditional dress”. It added a

new flavor to our meeting.

We have also successfully conducted a Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) for children

in December 2012, by partnering with another prominent club from the area. Again, the

spirit of sharing and innovation was visible throughout the programme. A testament to this

is the overwhelming response from the parents to enroll their kids for the future

programmes.

We need to use the toastmaster platform to test our creative skills- after all where in this

world you can find a better platform to test our skills without the fear of failure! My request

to my fellow toastmasters would be to come forward and to let your genius within you

come outside.

It’s indeed an honor and privilege to serve Area 55 in DIV H as the Area Governor. It has

been very exciting journey so far with all 5 clubs putting together their efforts, experience,

excitement together to Nurture, Inspire, Innovate Keen Vision at their club levels hence

enhancing Area 55 altogether.

This year’s journey started with NURTURING the Club with the induction of Club Officers,

they in turn nurtured the members. Officers the Area and Division INSPIRED and encour-

aged the members to attend the different types of training and Educational sessions. My

club meeting and visits gave me a wider perspective of the clubs in the Area. INNOVA-

TION in clubs of Area 55 was immaculate. Various types of meetings were conducted

with Themes as the Grab Bag, Traditional Dress, Mask, Color etc. Some clubs also took

an extra step by even inviting champion speakers, Keynote speakers. All 5 clubs were

KEEN to develop, enhance their communication and Leadership skills with total dedica-

tion and integrity. VISION of the clubs had focus as they had stipulated their dreams and

goals. Slowly and steadily they achieved their targets.

Transition is the most important part of your life. Do you recall your transition from KG1 to

high school and from your high school to college, your first job, from single life to married

life, Carefree life when single and then with your spouse to caring life of parenthood, the

sweet questions asked by your toddler to the dilemma answering your youth child.

Once you board the vehicle you are aware of your destination, choose the right mode of

transport. You may abort your journey in between or just get off the vehicle for some silly

reasons. It could be that you are not sure about the road or the destination or even not

comfortable with the transport. Hence to help you take a comfortable journey towards

your destination it’s always better to keep your GPS on and make those transitions clear.

G for GOALS – Every Transition set your goals right. Write them down and view them

time to time until they are achieved.

P for PLAN - Prefect Proper Planning will produce results. Shortcuts are not always

good.

Table Topics the Easy way

The PREP Method to respond toa table topic Questions

There are many ways to respond to a table topic. The simplest method is the P.R.E.P

An impromptu speech is similar to a prepared speech. It has a beginning, a body and a

closing.

Start by greeting Table Topic Master, President, Fellow Toastmasters.

Then repeat the Question ( this gives you time to format the answer and a link )

Then Apply the P.R.E.P outline

P – Point – State your point of view about the question that is do you agree or disagree.

R – Reason – Give a reason for your view.

E – Example – Give one or two examples as evidence to support your views.

P – Point – Restate your point.

Euro-English

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official

language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some

room for improvement and has accepted a 5-year phase-in plan that would become known as

"Euro-English".

1st Year

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with

joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards

kan have one less letter.

2nd Year

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be

replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

3rd Year

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where

more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double let-

ters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of

the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

4th Year

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v". Dur-

ing ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou".

5th Year

After ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl. Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun

vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru. Und efter ze fifz

yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

“You cannot teach a person anything;

you can only help him to find it within himself” ~ Galileo

"This is not the end. This is not even the beginning of the end. It is, instead, the "This is not the end. This is not even the beginning of the end. It is, instead, the

YLP Session is over. 29th December, 2012 is over. Such sentences are easy to be written

and read.

But we believe if we need to describe the event, it will be very difficult to us and all of you

to describe that amazing contest. Every item in the agenda went very smooth & enjoyed

by everyone. The day is over, but our memories will remain with us for years to come.

If we want to describe the core reason for that grand success, we will wail to capture it

and describe it. But from our personal and simple opinion, the reason was (Teamwork

Spirit, belongingness and the interest to excel). All of us, all the role players activated

their roles as a member in a musical team conducting a show in an opera. The show

couldn’t have been better than this. We also witnessed a lovely entertainment program on

the stage by the YLP Participants.

We have enjoyed the sessions, had great fun & made some new friends. All of them are

winners. Wining or loosing is not important. The very fact that all of you were able to

speak in front of a large audience consisting many senior people itself was a great

achievement. Kudos to all of you.

I am sure the participants must have felt the difference this program has brought in their

personality, confidence levels, ability to listen, tendency to encourage and appreciate will-

ingness to take leadership roles etc. These are the habits, characters that shall mold

them into fine human beings. Nurture these habits. Put them into practice in real life situa-

tions. Their parents will feel proud of them.

EDITORS NOTE

It has been a great pleasure to bring out this newsletter for NMC Community Chapter

Club. Subsequently the thought process started after releasing the Souvenir for Area

55 during the Area Contest.

For preparation of any Newsletter 3 things are essential, Focus, Coordination and the

Contribution by the Members. I like to thank the Club Officials and the Members for

their Contribution and Support.

It was then the thoughts focused on what exactly our newsletter should contain. As

there is no limit on the matters to be included, we decided to update the Members

with the Club News and Members updates, but as the saying goes preparing a News-

letter is like a puzzle, there may be difficulty finding the right pieces, but at the end

the puzzle is complete.
