Passion for the PurposePassion for the PurposePassion for the PurposePassion for the Purpose

PurposePurposePurposePurpose the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

San Luis Obispo Country Club is a unique recreational experience on California's Central Coast. SLOCC exists for the enjoyment of its members. Continuing the tradition of a pleasurable experience is the goal of your Board of Directors, Management and Staff.

Everyone who works for you here at SLOCC exemplifies this Passion for the Purpose. Each of us on the B.O.D. shares this passion. We are stewards, with the honor and responsibility, to serve you as members, considering the membership as a whole, seeking the greatest benefit for all.

Management is a pleasure to work with, because they too, share the passion. Management is continually looking for areas of improvement in the services they provide. They are looking for ways to improve themselves, and "bring more to the table"!

SLOCC Professionals and their staff display this passion with a smile and an eagerness to serve. They recognize, that although it may mean early mornings, late nights, and long hours, the members are here for fun and recreation, and this cannot be accomplished without their diligent efforts!

Maintenance handles the big and little. The purpose drives them to keep boilers and ovens constantly working, bathrooms and fitness equipment clean, and even each morning cleaning cobwebs from the fencing! Watch them in the mornings, you'll see the passion.

Food and office staff greet us with a smile that announces their Passion! They study hard to learn the individual needs of 700 families! I am continually amazed as I watch them cater to our members desires.

SLOCC has a center piece arrangement that is not ignored. Our golf course is a gem! Our golf course maintenance team is a group of hard working highly trained individuals who show the passion consistently every day! Walk out today and look at our greens. Through rain, or the lack of it, heat, or the lack of it, they keep the course thriving. They understand why the course exists.

Management and previous B.O.D’s have created an exceptional team to serve you at SLOCC. They have gathered together and recruited team members who have this Passion for the Purpose.

I hope you all can attend our Annual Town Hall meeting Saturday, March 19thAnnual Town Hall meeting Saturday, March 19thAnnual Town Hall meeting Saturday, March 19thAnnual Town Hall meeting Saturday, March 19th. Breakfast is at 7:30 AM, Town Hall Meeting starts at 8:30 AM. Golf begins with a shotgun start at 10:30 AM. The town hall meeting is a chance for you to hear directly form your B.O.D. and Management about the healthy state of affairs at SLOCC and ask questions. If you have in depth questions that may need additional data present, I encourage you to email Mr. Stanton or myself ahead of our meeting. I am always happy to answer questions and hear your ideas.

I appreciate the privilege to serve you,

French Onion SoupFrench Onion SoupFrench Onion SoupFrench Onion Soup

Prep Time: 15-20 Min Cook Time: 55-60 Min Serves: 4-6

Ingredients:Ingredients:Ingredients:Ingredients:

* 1/2 cup unsalted butter

* 4 onions, sliced

* 2 garlic cloves, chopped

* 2 bay leaves

* 2 fresh thyme sprigs

* Kosher salt & freshly ground black pepper

* 1 cup red wine, about 1/2 bottle

* 3 heaping tablespoons all-purpose flour

* 2 quarts beef broth

* 1 baguette, sliced

* 1/2 pound grated Gruyere

Preparation:Preparation:Preparation:Preparation:

1. 1. 1. 1. Melt the stick of butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, bay leaves, thyme, salt & pepper and cook until the onions are very soft and caramelized, about 25 minutes.

2. 2. 2. 2. Add the wine, bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer until the wine has evaporated and the onions are dry, about 5 minutes.

3. 3. 3. 3. Discard the bay leaves and thyme sprigs. Dust the onions with the flour and give them a stir. Turn the heat down to medium low so the flour doesn't burn, and cook for 10 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.

4. 4. 4. 4. Now add the beef broth, bring the soup back to a simmer, and cook for 10 minutes. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper.

5. 5. 5. 5. When you're ready to eat, preheat the broiler. Ladle the soup into bowls, place on top 2 slices of your favorite baguette and smother with cheese. Put the bowls into the oven to toast the bread and melt the cheese.

Enjoy with friends and family!

The golf shop will continue to run the caddie program this summer for about twelve weeks. Caddies are reserved the day before your desired round. The fee is $40 and each caddie carries just one bag. The caddies are generated by our local high school and college teams. We hope our members will enjoy the luxury of having someone carry their bag and also the fulfillment of helping a young person grow in the game of golf. San Luis Obispo Country Club has fostered a relationship with Evans Scholarship Program Evans Scholarship Program Evans Scholarship Program Evans Scholarship Program which gives out full college scholarships to selected caddies throughout the country. We have added a heavy bag that we can hang in the group ex room when classes are not in session. A heavy bag workout is a great way to burn calories and take that aggression out on the bag. If you are interested in designing a heavy bag workout, Darren will set up a training session. The cost of a 30 minute session is $44.00 and that includes hand wraps you get to keep. Any time the heavy bag is used all participants must wrap their hands for safety. The session will include how to hang the bag correctly, wrapping techniques, boxing techniques and conditioning drills. Contact Darren at the fitness center if you are interested.

Whitney just finished testing this program concept with 12 amazing women and they rocked it! The full 8 weeks consists of personalized meal plans, 6 days of group workouts per week with Whitney, group accountability and motivation, and benchmark prizes! (if you are unable to make any group workouts throughout the week, they can be done on your own as well!) The focus of the program is weight loss, strength, and allaround toning! The meal plan, weekly recipes and grocery lists are the biggest secrets to success in this challenge… as we all know how BIG of a role nutrition plays in overall weight loss and achieving those personal goals. If you would like to be a part of the first official “Hammer and Chisel” Challenge or would like more information, please contact Whitney in the fitness center or email; [email protected]. Deadline to register for the next 8 week challenge group is March 6th. Hammer and Chisel Dates: March 1st to March 20th: We start the assessments, meal planning, prep and lean out phase! The team challenge portion will come down to the final two challenges of the Indoor Quadathon and Team Track run. This year the teams were treated to a dinner hosted by Chef Ed, met with running coach Roger Warnes, Yoga instructor Kelly Treiber led a yoga session and Sarah McDonough talked about the importance of massage therapy.
