After exploring Hawaii in the morning, students come back to CPC and practice their English with their classmates!
Through CPC’s interactive teaching methodology, Club Keiki stu-dents will engage with the material through creative art projects, pair and group activities and games. Because the focus of the program is on building student’ foundational English skills, no minimum English proficiency is required.
Here is an example of what you may experience in a typical Club Keiki class:for kids:1. Name tags: Students create their own name tags to be displayed on their desks. They will write or draw at least
three of their favorite things. When students are finished, they will share them with the class.
Ex. My name is __________. I am_________ years old. My favorite fruits are_____________ 2. Using colorful and interactive flashcards, the teacher reviews vocabulary with the class. 3. To practice the newly learned vocabulary, students will play apple toss. First, students sit in a circle. A student says one fruit word and tosses it to another student sitting in the circle. The game keeps going until there is one winner. 4. To practice with writing, students complete a likes and dislikes handout. Upon completion, students will share their answers with a partner.
Club Keiki English classes:
1. Name Tags – Students will create their own name tags for their desks. They can either write or draw their favorite things. After the students are finished, they will share them with the class. They may use the sen-tence below as a model.
for teens:
Ex. My name is __________.I am______ years old. My favorite___________is_______. I have______brother/sister.
2. Portrait Gallery – Students will create a self-portrait of themselves and write 3 sentences about their likes and dislikes. The instructor will post each student’s self-portrait on the wall and have students circulate to guess which portrait belongs to which student.
3. Vocabulary introduction (body parts and prepositions) – Using flashcards, the instructor reviews familiar vocab-ulary and introduces new vocabulary.
4. As a vocabulary review, the instructor will teach teens a very basic hula dance called the hukilau. The instructor will review each step with the students, and by the end of the class, the students will have learned their first hula!

(Participant: Student M from Fukuoka, Japan, 12 years old)“At first, I didn’t understand what the teacher was saying; however, I was able to understand more and more during the program and I felt so happy about it. In the future, I would like to study abroad in America.”(Parents)“CPC took our kids to places that we couldn’t. It was very nice that CPC has not only English speak-ing teachers but Japanese speaking teachers and staff.”
(parent)“I was glad that I had the courage to let my kids join CPC’s Keiki program because my kid had a great time every day. When compared to other kids’ programs, CPC’s pro-gram includes not only English class but activities, lunch, snacks and a T-shirt. That’s the reason I picked CPC. The teachers were very friendly and talked to not only the kids but the parents. All the staff were very kind. Thank you so much for the great summer memories.”
(Participant: Student M from Kanagawa, Japan, 8 years old)“I looked forward to lunch because it was different every day. I was very happy be-cause there was snack time. I was excited when my teacher understood my English. I would like to join CPC next year.”
