February 2015 Vol 2. Issue 2

Being Social = Better Health Our lives are so busy these days. Carpool, laundry, cooking, cleaning, school work, work work, email, meetings, the list goes on and on. We barely have time to catch our breath, let alone hang out with friends.

But there is some interesting science that shows we need to make more time to be social, for our own health. According to an article, by David Rock, that

appeared in Fortune Magazine, social activity can have a positive impact on our well being. Here are just a few examples of how:

Giving to charity can activate the reward system in your brain more than winning money?

Seeing a friend regularly has the same effect on our well being as making an extra $100,000.

Volunteering to help others regularly produces the same increase in well being as making an extra $50,000.

Being socially connected is literally as good for your health as quitting smoking.

So come on out this month and enjoy our great

programs and activities, volunteer, meet your neighbors and get more social.
