Fellow Rotarian,

I welcome you to the fourth fellowship in the month of September. The Basic Education and Literacy month

celebration continue during the week. The club will be donating several thousand copies of exercise books to

pupils of Wasimi Junior High School Wasimi, Maryland this week Wednesday. I encourage all members to

key into this activity to celebrate the month.

Last weekend our great club had her first club assembly where far reaching decisions that will lead to signifi-

cant improvement in our club status as well as well those that will impact on the well beings of our members

were reached.

Fellow Rotarians the first quarter in this Rotary year is about winding up. The club financial records showed

that two-thirds of members are still indebted to the club. These members indebtedness is impacting seriously

on the operations of the club. I hereby humbly request that all the concerned members should try to regular-

ize their financial status with the club as a matter of urgency. Thank you as we continue to BE A GIFT TO

THE WORLD.

Presidential message

K.R. "Ravi" Ravindran President 2015-16 September 2015 One way we are doing that is with the new Rotary Global Rewards program, which launched in July. This innova-tive program allows Rotarians to connect with, and re-ceive discounts and concessions from, businesses and service providers around the world. Individual Rotarians may submit their own business to be included alongside those with which Rotary has already negotiated relation-ships; the most appropriate offers will be added to the listings. We have also created the option of allowing busi-nesses to return a percentage of their profit on each transaction to our Rotary Foundation, and several com-panies have already been locked into this part of the scheme. Each month we will update the list with addi-tional offers that we may receive. I urge all of you to try it out by signing up on My Rotary at Rotary.org now. The more Rotarians participate, the stronger, and more bene-ficial, the program will be. Much more than another loyalty program, Rotary Global Rewards is a new way to benefit from being a Rotarian, and being part of the Rotary network. It is another way to combine business and service. And it is yet another way to add value to Rotary membership. We cannot forget that our potential members will be asking themselves, "What's in it for me?" We need to demonstrate the value of Rotary by showing that becoming a Rotarian will en-rich their lives, as it has ours.

ANSWER TO BRAIN TEASE

“ HAD I KNOWN I’D HAVE ACQUIRED BASIC EDUCATION” – Mr. Goodman Mr. Goodman: “Johnson my Son, you must consider yourself very fortunate and blessed. You will not suffer like I did. Now, that I am old and about to die, I will bequest all my properties to you and your siblings. The properties are products of my hard work and blessings from the mighty God of the downtrodden. I am more than ready to go see the face of God! I lived a relatively holy life. I did not steal from anyone. Despite my stupendous wealth, good looks and an intimidat-ing personality, I did not covert someone’s wife. Please, rush to my room, open the white box that I hid under my bed, you will see the landed properties documents wrapped on a polythene bag, bring them to me so I can hand them over to you and bless you in the name of God before I join my ancestors.” (Johnson does as he was directed) Johnson: “Daddy, I have brought the documents but it states that 95% of the shares belong to Mr. Duke, your younger brother. You only own 5% of the shares. The document further states that Mr. Duke is to take custody of the properties in your demise. To worsen the situation, you thumb printed in agreement since you could not sign due to lack of education. Daddy, did Mr. Duke contribute 95% of the cost of the properties?” Mr. Goodman: “Not at all. He did not commit his finances towards the purchase of these properties. I only asked him to assist me because he is exposed to western education. Mr. Duke took advantage of my illiteracy to defraud me. My son, what can we do now?” Johnson: “Daddy, I am afraid that we may not be able to change the situation now.” Mr. Goodman: “Had I known, I would have heeded my father’s advice and acquire Basic Education.” (Mr. Goodman collapses and dies of heart attack. He was ushered into heaven by the Angels to see God almighty. However, Mr. Duke was found stone dead 7 days after. Where do you think he was headed to?) THANK YOU.

Eight tips for healthy eating

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is an important part of maintaining good health, and can help you feel your best. It doesn't have to be difficult either. Just follow these eight tips to get started.

Cut down on saturated fat and sugar We all need some fat in our diet. But it’s important to pay attention to the amount and type of fat we’re eating. There are two main types of fat: saturated and unsaturated. Too much saturated fat can increase the amount of cholesterol in the blood, which increases your risk of devel-oping heart disease. Saturated fat is found in many foods, such as hard cheese, cakes, bis-cuits, sausages, cream, butter, lard and pies. Try to cut down on your saturated fat intake, and choose foods that contain unsaturated fats instead, such as vegetable oils, oily fish and avocados. For a healthier choice, use just a small amount of vegetable oil or re-duced-fat spread instead of butter, lard or ghee. When you're having meat, choose lean cuts and cut off any visible fat. Most people in the UK eat and drink too much sugar. Sugary foods and drinks, including alcoholic drinks, are often high in energy (measured in kilojoules or calories), and if eaten too often, can contribute to weight gain. They can also cause tooth decay, espe-cially if eaten between meals. Cut down on sugary fizzy drinks, alcoholic drinks, sugary breakfast cereals, cakes, biscuits and pastries, which contain added sugars: this is the kind of sugar we should be cutting down on, rather than sugars that are found in things such as fruit and milk. Food labels can help: use them to check how much sugar foods con-tain. More than 22.5g of total sugars per 100g means that the food is high in sugar, while 5g of total sugars or less per 100g means that the food is low in sugar.

Eat less salt

Even if you don’t add salt to your food, you may still be eating too much. About three-quarters of the salt we eat is already in the food we buy, such as breakfast cereals, soups, breads and sauces. Eating too much salt can raise your blood pressure. People with high blood pres-sure are more likely to develop heart disease or have a stroke. Use food labels to help you cut down. More than 1.5g of salt per 100g means the food is high in salt. Adults and children over 11 should eat no more than 6g of salt a day. Younger children should have even less. TO BE CONTINUE……….
