Using the IBM Analytics for Hadoop Service in IBM BlueMix , Data Analyst is able to quickly search for patterns and discovers other occurrences. Queries across data from other clients finds similar instances of the anomaly.

Work Item for Engineering4

Data Analyst summarizes all information discovered and creates a work item in IBM’s Continuous Engineering platform for Engineering to find the root cause and fix the issue.

Traceability5

Using the analysis results as a guide, Engineering searches requirements, design, test, and code artifacts and quickly identifies a specific issue with firmware v.231.34.64

Fix, Test and Release6

Engineering/QA modifies the software, performs the necessary test cases in the IBM Rational Test Workbench and deploys the new firmware to manufacturing and to the field for operational updates.

Customer calls in with an issue where engine “revs” up during breaking which is occurring intermittently. Help desk logs the issue and assigns a Data Analyst for further investigation.

Data Analyst investigates the telematics data sent over IBM MessageSight from the engine during the reported timeframe and finds anomalies in the data.
