Analysis
Beware the “lights on, no one home” SLA
WHY NOW?
• Reduction in IT / SAS Admin resources
• Closing down own data centres
• Upgrading SAS
• Increased reliance on SAS
• Changing capacity requirements
• Corporate cloud-first strategy
Here are some reasons that are prompting organisations to start planning now
WHY NOT NOW?
“I don’t know if
we are allowed
to put our data
in the cloud”
“We don’t have
the skills /
expertise /
resources”
It feels
like a
big risk
Most common Barriers to The Cloud
DATA PRIVACYDEFINITION
Data Privacy refers to the rules that determine how personal data may be collected, used and processed.
Data Security refers to the practices used to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data that an organization holds.
The General Data Protection
Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation
(EU) 2016/679) new law as of 25
May 2018. The new legislation will
make it easier for organisations to
enter into relationships with
companies like SAS for processing
or storing their data. The “data
processor” (i.e. SAS) would
become “jointly and severally
liable” in relation to the protection
of personal data that it processes
on behalf of its customers (“data
controllers”).
A new EU-US Privacy Shield was
approved on 8th July 2016, and will
shortly become operational. The
successor to the Safe Harbour
framework. This allows contractual
guarantees regarding how a US-based
data processor will treat our
customers’ data. SAS is currently
considering certification under the
new EU-US Privacy Shield which is
expected to become operational in
August 2016. Our aim is to continue to
satisfy our customers’ needs and
requirements with regard to transfer of
personal data to the US.
