Formal Education 1900 - 2009
Not much has changed.
The introduction and rise of ICT has not lead to a radical change with regards to the innovation and organization of learning processes, but manifests itself as a gradual development (Kennisnet, 2009).
In formal education that is...
Why is there a gap between theory and practice in formal
education?
It’s what we value
And how we measure it
Standardized End Goals
Standardized tests
Standardized Benchmarks
Even internationally…
“The newest PISA study can hardly be compared with its predecessors. In the 2001 results, testing focused on reading comprehension, but in 2003 it was heavy on math and now the emphasis is on the natural sciences” (Deutsche Welle,2007).
Change what we value
Learners, teachers, schools and policymakers respond to benchmarks they are held accountable to.
If we do not change the benchmarks, how can we expect the system to change?
