PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail)Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven. Blessed Mother of the Son of God. Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con-ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me. I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be published after the favor is granted. Thank you for favor received. G.M.

Did You Know?Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the decay of uranium found in most soils. Radon can enter the home by moving up through the ground and into the air above before moving into a home in a variety of ways, including through cracks in solid fl oors, through construction joints and through cracks in walls. Gaps in suspended fl oors and around service pipes are additional entry points for radon. Once radon enters a home, it then becomes trapped inside, where buildup can occur. Radon buildup can potentially be very harmful or even fatal. A radioactive gas, radon is among the leading causes of lung cancer in the United States. In fact, only smoking causes more lung cancer deaths than radon, which can enter a home whether that home is new, old, well-sealed, or drafty. Homeowners concerned about radon, which is invisible and odorless, should have their homes tested.

What To Do When The Power Goes Out This WinterWinter might be a wonder-land to some, but for those who prefer a warm, sandy beach over a ski slope, winter is no walk in the park.

It's even worse when a win-ter storm hits and suddenly everything goes dark. Power outages are impossible to pre-dict. When a power outage occurs, it can last anywhere from a few minutes to several days. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers the following guidelines for making it through a power outage safe and sound.

Food

In general, if the refrigerator or freezer loses power for two

hours or less then the food inside will be safe to consume. However, it still helps to keep the keep the refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible.

When the power is out for longer than two hours, different rules apply. If the freezer is half full, food will be safe to consume for 24 hours. If the freezer is full, then the food will be safe for 48 hours.

Items in the refrigerator should be stored ina cooler surrounded by ice. Milk, additionaldairy products, meat, fi sh, gravy, and any-thing that can spoil should all be packed ina cooler of ice if the power is out for morethan two hours. When cooking, use a foodthermometer to check the temperature offood before cooking and eating. Any foodwith a temperature greater than 40 F shouldbe discarded.

Water

The water supply might also be affected dur-ing a power outage. It's always a good ideato keep bottled water on hand in the event

of a power outage to avoid consuming any contaminated water, which might be a byproduct of water purifi cation systems not fully functioning because of the power outage.

Avoid using potentially contaminated water when doing the dishes, brushing your teeth or pre-paring food. For parents of young children, it helps to have formula on hand that does not require the addition of water.

If tap water must be used, bring the water to a rolling boil for at least one minute. That's enough time to kill most organisms, including harmful bacteria and parasites.

Hypothermia Prevention

While most regions are quick to restore power, especially harsh storms might make it diffi cult to restore power right away. An extended power outage could cause chronic hypothermia, which occurs from ongoing exposure to cold indoor temperatures (below 60 F). The elderly are espe-

cially susceptible to chronic hypothermia during a power outage, but there are steps ev-eryone can take to stay safe.

Family members with el-derly relatives who live alone should make every effort to contact those relatives and ensure everything is alright. Make sure the elderly or the ill have adequate food, cloth-ing, shelter, and sources of heat. If necessary, insist el-derly or ill friends and fam-ily stay over until the power comes back on.

In poorly heated rooms, be sure there are enough blankets for everyone. And wear layers of clothing as well as a hat, even when indoors.

It also helps to stay as active as possible, as physical activity raises body temperature.

For more information on safely making it through a power outage, visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at www.cdc.gov.

Top 5 Baby Concerns In The HomeOne day an infant will transform from a relatively sedentary little person content to stare at the crib to an active adventurer satisfying his or her curiosity with just about everything in the home. Making sure the home is safe for baby’s travels becomes essential.

While every child develops at his or her own pace, most parents can expect the day will soon come when their son or daughter will be exploring the home. While that notion can be exciting, it can also be a bit scary. That’s because studies indicate more than 2,000 children die every year due to home-related injuries. Many of these children are under the age of 1.

Taking safety precautions around the house fi rst requires knowledge of the top dangers. Here is a list of known safety hazards around the home.

1. Choking hazards: Infants and toddlers are often en-amored with their older sib-ling’s toys. These toys may have small parts or magnets, and can be choking hazards for little ones. Be sure that small toys are not left strewn around.

Choking can also occur when babies try to eat foods that are too sophisticated for un-developed teeth. Pieces of food should be no larger than a dime to help prevent against choking. Children under 10 months old should only be given pureed food, or soft foods until molars for chew-ing and mashing develop.

2. Stairs: Falls account for many childhood injuries. Falls down stairs can be especially dangerous. Be sure to block stairs with sturdy gates from investigative children. There are gates that are designed for the top and bottom of stairs to make it easier to open and navigate for adults.

3. Water: It takes only a few inches of water to drown a young child. Never leave a baby unattended when water is around. Secure toilet seats and be sure to keep within arm’s reach of the child when he or she is bathing.

4. Tipped-over furniture: There were 31 deaths in 2006 (and 3,000 injuries) resulting from furniture and other household items, like TVs, tipping over and crushing children. Don’t place tempting items atop furniture. If furniture seems unsteady, always use anchors to bolt it to the wall.

5. Electricity: Keep all outlet covers plugged with plastic protectors. Secure cords so that they are not a tripping hazard or easily pulled out by curious kids. Also, don’t leave cords dangling over the edge of counters. Little fi ngers are sure to pull at them.

Sweet Treat a Holiday ClassicValentine's Day and chocolate seem synonymous, but another confection rules the roost come the day of love.

Since 1902, NECCO® Sweethearts® Conversation Hearts have played a pivotal role on Valen-tine's Day.

The concept for these sentiment-reading candies came during Abraham Lincoln's presidency. During that time, mottos were all the rage. Other candies were produced with mottos printed on pa-per rolled up inside of the candy. But until this point there were

no candies with the words were printed directly on the confec-tion.

In the 1860s, Daniel Chase, the brother of NECCO® founder Oliver Chase, began printing sayings directly on candy using

These little candy hearts have been around for more than 145 years.

experimental methods. Eventually the candy hearts became a coveted Valentine's Day tradition.

Sweethearts® have featured different sayings throughout the years, and starting in the 1990's began higher-tech phrases, such as "Fax Me," and "E-mail Me." In 2009, the company asked the American public to tell how they express feelings of affection. The 2010 series of Sweethearts®featured customer-provided sayings and bright, bold colors. The candies also were revamped to be softer and more enjoyable to eat.

The entire production of Sweethearts® is available for a lim-ited time and usually sells out in a matter of weeks. Those who love the candies better act fast to secure their sweets for this season.

Hit By Cupid’s ArrowCupid is a symbol of Valentine’s Day, but many do not know how this winged matchmaker came to be associated with the holiday.

Do you believe in love at fi rst sight? How many friends or rela-tives have said they met their dream guy or gal by a chance en-counter of eyes meeting across the room? Perhaps Cupid played a role -- shooting his arrow and fi nding a target.

Cupid is represented in several ways. But the best-known image of Cupid is a winged, naked boy shooting arrows to join potential lovers together. Cupid has two types of arrows he can set sail. Gold-tipped arrows are what links people in love. However, Cu-pid also has a devious side. He can fi re lead-tipped arrows, which cause people to feel hatred. This side of Cupid is little-known.

Cupid is the son of Venus in Roman mythology. Greek myths called him Eros, and he was the son of Aphrodite. Stories say that Venus, the goddess of love and beauty became jealous with a mor-tal woman named Psyche. She ordered her son to punish the mor-tal. However, Cupid became enamored with Psyche and married her instead. But being a mortal, Psyche was not able to look at her husband. She resisted until one day her sisters persuaded her to

look at him, wondering why he’d want to hide himself fromher. Upon doing so, Cupid punished Psyche by leaving her andmaking all of their belongings vanish.

Psyche wandered looking for her lost love. She eventuallycame upon the temple of Venus and wanted to plead her caseand apologize. However, Venus was still jealous of Psyche.Venus ordered her to complete dangerous tasks to try andwin back Cupid, in an effort to destory the mortal. In one ofher tasks -- a visit to Pluto in the underworld -- Psyche failedand fell under a deadly slumber. Cupid was beside himself, found Psyche and rescued her. Both Cupid and Venus forgavePsyche. Eventually the rest of the gods -- moved by Psyche’sdevotion -- made her a goddess.

Today Cupid is the mascot of Valentine’s Day. His mischie-vous or devious nature is downplayed, and he is best knownas an adorable matchmaker with heart-tipped arrows. You canevoke Cupid this Valentine’s Day by drawing arrow-piercedhearts on steamed-up mirrors in the bathroom for your mateto discover. Or send Valentines with hearts and arrows as thetheme.

Make Jewelry a Gem of a GiftJewelry tops the list of desired Valentine’s Day presents. According to U.S. Census studies, jewelry stores in the United States sell approximately $2 million in merchandise every Valen-

tine’s Day. Each year leading up to February 14th, jew-elry manufacturers overload the airwaves and department store advertisements with the must-have jewelry trends of the season.

Many women welcome the gift of jewelry, but prefer jew-elry that’s unique. Jewelry presents should be as unique as their recipient. But being personal, unique and ensuring your jewelry piece will be worn takes a little effort. Con-sider these pointers.

* Think beyond the diamond: Many guys feel pressured to purchase diamond jewelry. The fact is, not all women feel compelled to wear diamonds -- well, all of the time. It may be more meaningful if you gift her with her birth-stone, a favorite gem or even a simple piece of gold. It all depends on her personality. Notice what type of jewelry she tends to wear and her color preferences. Figure out if she has her heart set on a particular piece.

* Buck the trends: Avoid the marketed gift of the year. While it may work for footwear, jewelry, like fragrances,

is more personal. A one-style-fi ts-all gift simply may not work here. Again, think about her style and personality and use that as a guide for jewelry purchases.

* New is not necessarily better: Some women adore antique pieces. A passed-down cameo pen-dant that your grandmother once wore may offer more implied meaning than that new necklace

fresh off of the display case.

* Personalize your pieces: Think about pieces that have unique meaning. Does she collect pearls? How about a charm bracelet that can be augmented each year? Even having a pendant engraved with a touching sentiment can be the way to ensure her gift is one-of-a-kind.

* Go with what works: If she’s a stud earring sort of gal, gift her with a new pair. Now is not the time to try out what you believe to be new and exciting. A woman can never have enough of her favorite type of jewelry.

Learn the ways to make jewelry gifts that much more special for your Valentine.

Did You Know? Many early Christian martyrs were named Valentine, which can make it confusing when trying to fi gure out just who is being honored on Valentine's Day. While there might be many martyrs named Valentine, the two honored on Valentine's Day are Valentine of Rome and Valentine of Terni. The former was a Roman priest who was martyred in roughly 269 AD, while the latter was bishop of what is now Terni who was martyred in 197 AD. It was not until the 14th century that any of today's popular romantic elements began to take shape when celebrating Valentine's Day. As a result of those new developments, the distinctions between Val-entine of Rome and Valentine of Terni were gradually lost, eventually prompting the feast of St. Valentine on Feb-ruary 14 to be removed from the General Roman Calendar in 1969.
