Overview Homework Handout for Client You have had your first session with your therapist today and have received an instruction

for the online diary, instruction for the exercise program and possibly also other home work

assignments.

With regards to the diary:

Please register on the Optimism Online website as soon as possible. The instructions

you have received will guide you how to do this.

Try to familiarize yourself with this website by looking around on the website and

reading the instructions.

Schedule a fixed time of the day where you allow yourself 15-30 minutes to record

how you have been doing today

Do this every day to keep track of your progress

On the Record tab/core data: record how your mood was and how well you coped

and your quality of sleep and exercises for the day. Also fill out the stay well

strategies, triggers and symptoms

On the record tab/notes you can fill out your short and long term goals, but might

not be necessary to fill out every day

On the record tab/notes you can also make personal notes, important information

that could not be filled out on the core data and might be important to share with

your therapist in the next session.

As soon as you start a gradual return to work you can use the notes page to record

how you have been doing at work

On the day of your next session with your therapist it is important not to forget to

print your chart and report, or as alternative solution: email this to your therapist.

This information provides important input for your next session.

The instruction you received will most likely be sufficient to help you out. If not:

there is a help button on the website that provides additional information

With regards to the exercise program:

Your therapist has provided you with exercise instructions based on your current

level of physical stamina, sedentary, moderate or active individual Follow the schedule as consistent as possible even if the weather is bad or you don’t

feel like it

Regular daily physical activity is known to assist you with your recovery from mental

health issues

Following a structured realistic schedule is also known to work better than

“exercising when I feel up to it”

If you prefer alternate activities to assist you with your recovery, please discuss this

with your therapist. The more a program fits your needs, the more chance you will

continue doing it.

With regards to the other home work assignments:

Try to be as consistent as possible with all home work assignments as they are

provided to you to assist you with your recovery

Good luck!
