President’s Message:

Greetings!

Are your holiday plans in full swing yet? By the 1st of December, we all have thoughts of how we’ll be spending the next month. We have family members to visit, work obligations to complete (year end is looming) parties to attend and plan, and in general not enough time for all we would like to do.

It sounds so hectic, but it should be a time of Peace!

I hope to see all of you at our Annual Christmas party, December 10th at Shula’s Restaurant. The meeting is fun, fellowship and traditional games (which I always look forward too!). Gina Rose has arranged dinner choices that all look tempting, so choosing just one will be challenging!

During this time, we also think of those who are in need. We have just completed our first service project, and thanks to Tiffany Willmott’s planning and leadership Project Night Night has received, blankets (hand made with love) stuffed animals and books as well as a cash donation for those children who don’t have the same security our own children have been blessed with. Our Christmas service project will be donations to Providence House, which we have supported for the last several years. A list of items they can use is attached in this newsletter. Please remember to bring your donations to the dinner meeting.

I look forward to seeing all of you at our next meeting and wish you all a Very Merry Christmas filled with Peace and Joy, Diane Fehlner, President

Upcoming Meetings (save the dates):

December 10, 2015 – CIP Christmas Party & Dinner Meeting Shula’s 2, DoubleTree, Independence, OH

January 14, 2016 – Joint Meeting with IBNO Location to be announced

February 11, 2016 – CIP Monthly Dinner Meeting Shula’s 2, DoubleTree, Independence, OH

April 14-17, 2016 – Region IV Conference Courtyard by Marriott, Muncie, IN

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

CIP FALL PHILANTHROPY PROJECT

WINTER DRIVING EMERGENCY ITEMS

Our fall philanthropy is over and I consider it a complete success. Thanks to the charitable donations of our members, affiliates, and guests, we were able to gather 15 blankets, 42 stuffed animals, 15 books, and $218 to donate to Project Night Night. Thanks to all who gave of their time, talents, and hearts to help homeless children in our Northeast Ohio Community.

In fellowship, Tiffany Willmott, Vice President

See the other pictures from the Blanket Making event.

It is suggested that you keep the following items in your vehicle during the winter months. • Shovel • Windshield scraper and small broom • Flashlight with extra batteries • Water • Snack food including energy bars • Extra hats, socks and mittens • First aid kit with pocket knife • Necessary medications • Blankets or sleeping bag • Road salt, sand, or cat litter for traction • Booster cables • Emergency flares and reflectors • Fluorescent distress flag and whistle to attract attention • Cell phone charger

Thanks to Barb Kindel for this reminder.

Region IV Members, Get out your bobby socks and saddle oxfords, your poodle skirts and initial sweaters (or your boyfriend’s letter jacket), and get ready to Cruise in to the Crossroads! Drive-in dining is on the menu for our welcome reception when we Connect at the Crossroads in Region IV! Have a burger or hot dog and fries, and don’t forget those ice cream sundaes! Plan to eat your dinner with us – no need to leave this year! All those Hound Dogs will keep you Twistin’ the Night Away until you Wake Up, Little Suzzie! Prizes, of course, for the best costume, and we’ll have a contest for the best IAIP cheer! So get your pompoms ready to be a teenager again, and come Cruise In to the Crossroads!

MEETING ADJOURNED AT 7:40PM

Delegate Report – Ohio Council Meeting – October 30-31, 2015 The Insurance Professionals of Greater Cincinnati hosted the event. Lee Baird and Cathy Wolford from CIP attended. There were approximately 40 registrations in total. Friday evening was registration and hospitality. When checking in, as an ice breaker, each attendee got the name of a famous person taped to their backs and then asked other people questions to try and guess whose name they had. It was a fun way to meet other members. There were lots of good food and three great vendors selling jewelry, soaps and lotions. Our Saturday started at 7:30am with breakfast and the meeting started at 9:00am. Debbie Ebbing welcomed everyone and Boy Scout Troop #967 of Sacred Heart Church, Fairfield, OH, presented the colors and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Council Director Betsy Adams called the meeting to order at 9:08am. Stacy Gibson, first timer, read the Collect. Susan Necessary introduced 5 First Timers, read them their bill of rights and gave them their welcome gifts. Susan gave them their identification as First Timers which were Winner’s Medals on colorful ribbons to wear around their necks. Susan Friedrich gave the credentials report – there were 5 associations present and 1 member at large for a total voting strength of 6. Cathy Wolford presented the Adoption of Annual Meeting Rules and Meeting Program. Sherri Distelhorst moved for approval of the 2014 Ohio Council Minutes. Minutes were approved as corrected, with the correction being to list the upcoming meetings and one spelling correction. Tammy Wascher, Region IV VP, gave her report on the State of the Association. She provided to each attendee a “Go All In” lapel button. The focus for this year is Revitalization. Five main areas of development were identified through the membership survey earlier this year – Membership, Programming, Leadership, Finance and Marketing. Task forces were established to address these issues. Tammy gave an overview of the Member Satisfaction Survey results. Local Association engagement, support for professional development and networking are the most highly valued aspects of IAIP membership. Complete details are available on the IAIP website. Two items that will change the IAIP ByLaws will come up for voting by the membership in 2016. One Member One Vote and the Re-alignment of Regions V-IX will be presented at the 2016 Regional Conferences. If a majority of the Region’s associations approve, the issues will be brought up for a vote at the 2016 International Convention. Next Regional Conference is April 14-17, 2016 in Muncie, IN. Tammy reminded us that Regional Award applications are due 11/15/2015. The International Convention is June 16-18, 2016 in Richmond, VA. The 2017 International Convention will be in Albuquerque, NM. Committee Reports started with Cathy Wolford, By Law Chair, who stated that there are no ByLaw changes to consider at this meeting.

Susan Friedrich gave the Treasurer’s report. The Council checking account is being changed from PNC to 5/3 bank. The current balance is $759.13 The PR/Membership chair had to resign due to family issues. A new chair will be appointed to complete the remainder of the 2015-16 term. Cathy Wolford gave an update on the TIKES program. MetLife and Ohio Insurance Institute are two partners who support this program. The OII will use our new logo for their next re-print. Stickers were made available to anyone who wanted them. OII stickers can be found on the OII website; www.ohioinsurance.org. The business meeting was suspended and Hope Davenport introduced the Key Note Speaker, Joan Fox of Eagle Inspiration Training & Development. Her presentation was titled “Outwit, Outlast, Outserve: Ultimate SERvival Strategies”. The theme was how to create customer loyalty. A delicious lunch followed and the meeting resumed at 1:00pm. Penny Duer presented the Nominating committee report. Vicki Angelo was nominated for the office of Council Director Elect and Betsy Adams was nominated for the office of Custodian of the Funds. The vote was taken and both were elected to serve for the 2016-17 term beginning July 1, 2016. Bids were taken for future meetings: 2016 Annual Meeting will be hosted by the MALs, location to be announced. The 2017 Annual Meeting will be hosted by the Buckeye Insurance Professionals in Van Wert, OH. The 2018 Annual Meeting will be hosted by the Insurance Professionals of Toledo. Pat Johnson conducted the installation of the newly elected officers. The Audit Committee reported that the books were found to be in order. Betsy Adams gave her closing remarks and presented a summary of membership numbers by association in Ohio. She pointed out the decline in members to about half the number as ten years ago. She encouraged us to embrace change and utilize the resources available from IAIP headquarters. Cathy Wolford gave a report on the 2016 Networking Weekend hosted by the Insurance Professionals of Greater Akron and the Cleveland Insurance Professionals. It will be held in Downtown Cleveland on August 26-28, 2016. The committee is requesting contact information for potential sponsors for this event. A drawing was held to give out door prizes donated by Cincinnati Insurance Company. There was a fund raiser for the 2020 Region IV Conference. The meeting adjourned at 1:50pm. It was my pleasure to serve as Delegate for this meeting. Cathy Wolford, President Elect and Delegate, CIP
