Cleburne County High School Tigers

CCHS Coach Michael Shortt

2009 record - 3-7, did not reach the playoffs.Offensive leaders - Matt Norton, 6-4, 195, QB;

Rocky Hayes, 5-11, 170, RB; Ethan Eaves, 5-11, 237, OL. Norton didn’t start last season, but the junior looked like a polished pocket passer with good mobil-ity in pre-season practices. Hayes shined at a Clem-son camp during the summer and should be one of the more exciting players to watch. Eaves is the leader on a line that could pave the way for an impressive of-fensive unit.

Defensive leaders: Brayden Walker, 6-1, 218, LB; Lucas Carter, 6-5, 200, DE; Benton Cooley, 6-0, 200, LB/DB. Walker is as healthy as he’s been in his career after struggling with a torn labrum and various nagging injuries as a sophomore and junior. Carter is the type of lean, athletic specimen on the end that colleges crave nowadays and Cooley is as versatile a player as you’ll see on a high school field.

Key special teams contributor: K. Blake Price. CCHS Head Coach Shortt said the Tigers’ kicking game will be much improved. He expects Price to be automatic on PATs.

Vocal leader: Hayes, Cooley, Walker. Cooley and Walker are seniors and have stepped up in the locker room for the Tigers. Shortt said he’s challenged Hayes to be a leader despite being an underclassman.
