yeas ago today the first sermon of the present pastor ato was preached in this pulpit Too occasion furnisheH a fitting time for some reflections retrospec tive and prospective Coining as a passing visitor to tho city during tho holidays of 1883 I found that this church had boon without a pastor for two years was disorgan ized and discouraged and facing division At tho earnest solicita ¬ tion of the Session I agreed to act for tho time being as a supply which resulted in my settlement as pastor the following spring of 1884 In looking over the records of the church I Hud that some of the most men of our whole de ¬ I nomination in the past have served as pastors here and noted revival ¬ ists have at tines hold special ser ¬ vices resulting in largo accessions to tho membership The torm of
