DUAL GUARD AND CLASS 1 FRPINSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Read all the instructions and familiarizeyourself with the materials before starting thebonding procedure. A standard complete bondkit includes the following:

Material Safety Data Sheets ( MSDS ) forthe resin and hardener. Familiarize yourselfwith the material you will be working withand if necessary notify any appropriatesafety personnel.

1.

Wet raw material: Clean Wrap resin andClean Wrap hardener.

2.

Dry material: milled fiberglass and silicabeads for making paste, strips of Halarsurfacing veil and fiberglass cloth forcompleting wraps.

3.

Accessory items: brushes serrated rollers, and mixing cups for working with the rawmaterials.

4.

The installer will need to supply the followingto complete installation: acetone for clean up,saber saw with fine tooth blade for cutting, grinder with 24 grit replacement pad fordeburring, scale, hot glue gun with glue sticks,or straps for mechanical clamping of individualpieces during assembly, safety glasses, dustmask, rubber gloves, protective clothing andcardboard or paper to protect the floor.

Use a tape measure to mark off the length of theduct to be cut. Take a flexible flat strip of materialand wrap around the duct surface and align theends of the strip. Then draw a line completelyaround the duct.

Using a saber tooth saw with a fine tooth bimetalblade or a circular saw with an abrasive blade, carefully cut the duct on the mark. After cuttingthe mating pieces check for proper fit up. Makesure there is not more than a 1/8" gap betweensections.

Using a grinder, with 24 grit replacementsanding pad or 16 grit sandpaper, remove anyrough edges, then remove any dust with a cloth.Pieces when done should be square cut, cleanand free of any grease, dirt or jagged edges.

Clean Wrap resin and hardener, using a scaleaccurate to fractions of a gram. The proper ratioof resin to hardener is 100 parts resin by weightto 15 parts hardener by weight. Mix no moreresin than can be comfortably applied andcompleted in a 15 minute period. Follow allsafety precautions and wear protective glovesand glasses.

Note: Mixing must be accurate, 100 parts byweight resin to 15 parts by weight hardener,( or 100:19 by volume ).

Using a brush, coat all cut ends of the duct orfittings with mixed resin.

Fit the two pieces into position using anyconvenient means to assure the pieces willremain rigid throughout the rest of the procedure.Hot glue guns or mechanical strapping havebeen successfully used in the past.

Prepare a resin putty to fill the seam. Mix resinand hardener as usual, increasing the amount ofhardener ( for putty formation only! ) to 15-25parts hardener per 100 parts resin. To the resinmix, blend in equal volumes of ( first ) silica and( second ) milled glass fibers to double the over-all volume of the resin mix alone. Mix thoroughlyuntil a peanut butter consistency is obtained.Quantities of silica or milled glass may be alteredslightly as required to achieve the desiredconsistency.

Using a putty knife, spread the resin putty mixaround the duct, filling the seam. Provide assmooth a surface as possible, wiping the puttyjoint with a piece of cardboard or rubber tosmooth. If necessary, wipe any excess resinputty from the inside of the duct with a clean rag.

While waiting for the resin putty to cure, cut theHalar surfacing veil to overlap the circumferenceby at least 2". Cut the cloth to overlap the Halarby 2" on the first layer and increase by 1" oneach subsequent layer, using the joint widthsshown in Table 1 ( provided separately ) as aguide.

Apply a coat of Clean Wrap mixed resin andhardener to the exterior of the joint. Wrap theHalar surfacing veil around the duct, centeredover the joint. Apply additional resin to the Halarwith a brush, saturating completely.

Lay the next ( inside ) layer of cloth on a flat worktable covered with cardboard or mylar. Saturatethe cloth with mixed resin and hardener using abrush.

Carefully lift the saturated cloth from the worktable and place over the Halar veil on the duct.Overlap all seams evenly.

Remove any entrapped air under the veil andcloth using the serrated roller. Take your time, all entrapped air must be removed to provide aquality joint. The cloth must be fully saturatedwith resin.

After the resin is tack free the finished jointshould look like the duct shown above.

Read all MSDS sheets prior to working withresin and hardener.

1.

NOTES:

Wear all required safety protection equipment, including rubber gloves, safety glasses, andwhere required, dust masks.

2.

Dispose of all waste materials properly.3.

Store resins and hardener at roomtemperature. Under certain conditions theresin may crystallize. If this occurs, heat theresin until all crystallization disappears.

4.

For best results the temperature should be50°F or higher.
