On February 12, 2015, Jani-King in Canada launched a new campaign to create awareness around the issue of disaster preparedness. The Take the #JaniKingPledge campaign is in support of the Canadian Red Cross and for every pledge to share our preparedness message; Jani-King is donating $20 to the Red Cross to support vulnerable Canadians.
Jani-King in Canada has always committed to doing good in the national community. This year; however, we wanted to make more of a public impact in your communities that would help us reach new customers and give our franchisees and employees a sense of pride. This campaign contains a very simple and clear message: Jani-King takes pride in helping our community by raising money and awareness for the Canadian Red Cross.

One way that germs spread is when a person has hand contact with a contaminated surface then touches their eyes, nose or mouth. Germs can live on surfaces for a period of time that ranges from hours to days. By removing them through the cleaning process it is possible to minimize contamination and slow the spread of colds and flu.
Follow the 6 Tips to Success

2. Clean and Disinfect This involves daily sanitizing of surfaces and objects that are touched often. Immediately clean surfaces and objects that are visibly soiled. If surfaces or objects are soiled with body fluids or blood, use gloves and other standard precautions to avoid coming into contact with the fluid. Remove the spill, and then clean and disinfect the surface.

3. Have a ‘Disinfecting Kit’ Readily Available - Continued from page 2 -
A customer may request an extra service, for example to disinfect the work-station of a person known to have the flu. It is also common for schools and medical clinics to request extra services during flu season. Having the proper products and supplies readily available for these requests, which are usually on short notice, helps you to respond quickly.

Your Disinfecting Kit Should Include:
• Disposable Gloves • Disinfecting Wipes • Hand Sanitizer • Microfiber cloths • Masks • Disinfectant – 4 L – with the MSDS • Spray bottles

5. Use Equipment and Processes That Minimize Cross- Contamination - Continued from page 3 -
Cross contamination occurs when germs are spread between people, surfaces and equipment.
While ordinary cleaning cloths move or push dirt and dust from one place to another - microfibre lifts or scoops the dirt and stores
the dirt particles in the cloth until it is washed.
Frequently change the mop head during cleaning for effective soil removal and to minimize cross-
contamination
Clean water systems such as the Kaivac that use only clean water
for cleaning as opposed to the traditional bucket and mop
method that re-uses dirty water.
6. Handle Waste Properly
Follow standard procedures for handling waste, which may include wearing gloves. Place no-touch waste baskets where they are easy to use. Throw disposable items used to clean surfaces and items in the trash immediately after use. Avoid touching used tissues and other waste when emptying waste baskets. Wash hands with soap and water after emptying waste baskets and touching used tissues and similar waste.

How the Campaign is Going So Far
Tamara Mclellan | The Social Ambassador
The Social Ambassador Social Media marketing platform gives the ability for Jani-King to monitor the campaign and measure our success.
Some facts: • The campaign has been seen by
over 500,000 people since the
launch. • There is an average of 70 people
per day visiting the website to learn more
and take the pledge.
• On our janikingpldge.ca website alone, there have been 719 active shares so we are
now at $17,000 donated and rising.
All Jani-King Regional Support Offices across Canada have been in full support of the campaign. They have been active in sharing our campaign via emails and direct contact with both our valued clients as well as prospects. In an effort to support franchisees in sharing the campaign with their customer contacts, they have offered Jani-King

How Can You Get More Involved, Create More Awareness in Your Community, and Help Jani-King Canada Reach Our $25,000 Goal?
1. Help spread the word by visiting www.JaniKingPledge.ca and share the message using the Facebook and Twitter icons available on the home page. It’s that easy!
2. Encourage others in your office, community or home to do the same.
3. Drop a pamphlet or flashlight at your customer’s office. Each Regional Office has been given a number of pamphlets to leave with your customer.
4. Call or email your local media and/or the Chamber of Commerce to tell them about the campaign and ask if they could show their support by simply sharing via social media or emails.
Occupational Health and Safety Everyone who is part of Jani-King must be well versed in Occupational Health and Safety requirements. This means understanding and following the requirements of provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation as well as those of the Jani-King Occupational Health and Safety Management System. As a Franchisee, you should have a copy of the Jani-King Manual. If you do not, contact your Regional Office to get one. In section 13 of the Manual you will find a copy of the OH&S legislation for your province.
Also found in the Manual, in Section 1, is the Jani-King Health and Safety Policy. This is an important document because it makes a statement about a commitment to Occupational Health and Safety and also spells out the importance of participation by everyone, every day, in every job to achieve safe and healthy work environments that are injury and incident free.
You will notice that on the Policy page there is a signature line for the Franchisee to sign and confirm commitment to the Policy. For a copy of the most recent version contact your Regional Office.
If you have any comments and/or suggestions about how to improve health and safety at Jani-King, contact your Regional Office or e-mail [email protected]
Success Story!
Case Study: In our Kelowna regional office: the Chamber of Commerce called out of the blue because there was a leave-behind card left in their cafeteria. They reached out just to ask, “We think this is an awesome cause. How can we help?”
This is just one example of how this has impacted local communities and how one person seeing the message can impact change.
