I have been very grateful to all who have made their way over to introduce themselves to me and have a chat. I have been geng around to meet as many students as I can and feel like Im probably half way through learning everyones names. You are all very lucky to be part of this Clayton South community, and I can honestly say that this is the best school I have worked at, and I am very excited at the idea of being here for many, many years to come. Just to introduce myself, I have been teaching for 15 years now and this is my third year as a Principal. I was previously the Principal at Bolinda Primary School in North-West Victoria in a school slightly smaller than Clayton South, so I do understand the differences and what makes a small school like ours special. I have two children, Levi who is 10 years old and entering Year 5, and Sam, my 4 year old who began Kindergarten this week. I currently live in Frankston and when Im not playing with my two boys, I enjoy going to the gym to keep fit. My background is Curriculum design and innovaon, so my hope for this school is that we connue in the direcon we are heading, and make some slight improvements to ensure that our students are quickly becoming the benchmark for academics in the Kingston Network. I have had quick success in seng high expectaons for the students at my previous school, and our results reflected that. ...Connued over page Under the Gazebo Newsletter Date: 31 January 2020 Issue: 1 During February, Preps do not attend school on Wednesdays. Dear Clayton South Primary School families,

I have had an amazing first week here at this beautiful school. I have been very grateful to all who have made their way over to introduce themselves to me and have a chat. I have been getting around to meet as many students as I can and feel like I’m probably half way through learning everyone’s names.

I currently live in Frankston and when I’m

not playing with my two boys, I enjoy going to the gym to keep fit.

My background is Curriculum design and innovation, so my hope for this school is that we continue in the direction we are heading, and make some slight improvements to ensure that our students are quickly becoming the benchmark for academics in the Kingston Network. I have had quick success in setting high expectations for the students at my previous school, and our results reflected that.

We also welcomed two new Year 1/2 teachers this year, Miss Leesa Warman and Mrs Yvette Bouma. Leesa has come across to us from Kew Primary School, and Yvette had been teaching at Dingley Primary School. Both teachers have demonstrated a passion for teaching and I get the feeling our Year 1/2 students are very lucky to have such amazing educators influencing and teaching them this year.

It was pleasing to see how quickly our new Prep students settled into their new routines. They all looked super cute in their uniforms and I loved seeing all of the proud parents filming and taking photos of their children’s first day of Prep at Clayton South PS. Our Prep students do not have school on Wednesday’s during February, and will have an interview time booked with Ms Angeles, so if you are unsure of your day and time, please see your child’s teacher. During the interview they will sit the English Online Interview which assesses their letter-sound knowledge, speaking skills, reading abilities and writing development. This gives the teacher great information around where to start the teaching and learning in Prep and is vital to our work of improving all students outcomes.

Our first assembly will be held on Friday 7 February in the BER Building and I will be presenting our Student Leadership Team with their badges. An invitation went home tonight to all families whose children applied for Leadership positions. I look forward to presenting them with their badges and congratulate all students for applying and putting themselves out there. I know it would have been a difficult decision for all staff to select only 8 leaders.

In what has been a difficult summer with the bushfires and now the Coronavirus, hopefully the rest of the year can contain only good news! Keep an eye out in your local papers for stories about our school, as I love to promote all of the amazing things happening here.

To the rest of our staff, Eve Angeles (Prep), Irene Dornau (3/4), Leanne Monk (5/6A), Larry Hay (5/6B), Heather Douglass (PE), Valeska Castillo (Spanish and Art), Libby Mason (Business Manager), Karen Box (Administration), Miss Anna (ES), Miss Aimee (ES), Miss Kathie (ES), and Miss Felicia (ES), I thank you for the warm welcome I received on arrival and I’m very excited that our amazing students get to work with you all.

Have a great weekend - Greg Clement
