EARLY LIFE

Monet was born in Paris on November 14th in 1840. Claude was the 2nd child in his family.

Adolphe Monet was the boss of the family grocer business and his mother, Louise Justine Aubrée Monet, Later the family moved to Normandy when Claude was 5 years old. He always knew that he wanted to be an artist instead of going into the family grocery business. The main reason he went to school was to learn technique. At age 15, Monet was known to be a caricaturist (exaggerated portrait artist) Through an exhibition of Monet’s drawings he met artist Euguene Boudin at who taught the aspiring Artist to paint outdoors. Monet learned to enjoy painting natural scenes/landscapes as he saw them rather then other artists before him. An interruption of his artistry life was briefly serving in the military until AN ILNESS FORCED HIM TO RETURN back home. He then met several budding artists including pierre-auguste WHO BEGAN EXPERIMENTING WITH THE NEW STYLE THAT HAD LATER BECOME IMPRESSIONISM.

“Everyone discusses my

art and pretends to

understand, as if it were

necessary to understand, when it is

simply necessary to

love.” - Claude Monet

ARTISTIC STYLE Monet used the style of impressionism, which he co-created. The style is painting using the "en plein air" technique in which one focuses on the lights reflections on various surfaces as opposed to focusing on details in the picture itself.

INSPIRATION AND INFLUENCES PART 2

Monet discovered the work of Eugene Boudin at Martinet’s where his work was being shown, that’s when Monet found true inspiration. Boudin was his main influence introducing him to out door scenes and teaching Monet to use oil paints. Not long after, Claude painted “en plein air” in the forest of Fontainebleau with his friend bazille. Claude started working on large canvases and by then he had become such a perfectionist he would refuse to paint unless the light of the sun reflected exactly the way he wanted it.

REVIEWS Monet worked on many pieces during his lifetime. The next feature of this digital magazine is reviews of just 3 pieces. Reviews written by Jordan Tomljenovic.

This painting is called “Water lily pond water irises”. ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PIECES BY MONET, WITH SO MUCH AND DETAIL TO EACH STEM, FLOWER AND TREE. THE SKY AT REMINDS ME OF A WARM SPRING EVENING WITH PINK FLUFFY CLOUDS, WHICH MONET DREW PERFECTLY. THE COLOURS THAT HE USED IN THE PIECE ARE VERY VIBRANT AND GIVE ME ENERGY. THE GARDEN LOOKS SO REALISTIC, ALMOST AS IF IT WERE A PHOTOGRAPH. MY FAVOURITE PART OF THE PIECE HOWEVER, IS THE REFLECTION ON THE WATER OF THE BUSH BESIDE IT.

The Next painting is called The Rock Needle And The Porte D Aval. This painting looks like it was painted around sunset, with the sun shining on the rocks and the clouds have that summery glow. I love the reflection of the water, and just the water in general. That’s the main reason I like this piece, the water looks so realistic!

This painting is titled “Madame Monet and Child”. The painting is of Monet’s wife and a child that they did now know. The painting is set in a garden. I love the flowers in this; I’m not quite sure why but my attention automatically goes to that. I also love how the detail in Camille’s dress isn’t really there. This is also a piece I am very of fond of that is monets work.

PERSONALITY

After researching, I have discovered that Monet was quite a perfectionist; everything would have to be flawless. He also seemed as a very hard worker. Monet comes across quite strong-minded like once he sets his mind on something, he’ll get it, and he’ll strive till he does get it.
