2019 Big Top Baseball Internships 

Big Top Baseball is the largest and most successful summer collegiate baseball ownership group in the nation attracting more than 400,000 fans in 2018. BTB annually hires more than 70 interns for its Northwoods League franchises, the Green Bay Bullfrogs, Madison Mallards, Kenosha Kingfish, and Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. Each team plays 36 home games from late May through August. Internships run from mid-May through the completion of the season, near the end of August. Every summer the interns work directly with the management staff. Interviews have begun and will continue until all positions are filled.

Currently 80% of Big Top Baseball’s full-time staff completed an internship or seasonal position with one of its four teams prior to their full-time employment. Former interns have gone on to work for the Carolina Panthers, Milwaukee Brewers, Arizona Diamondbacks, TREK Bicycles, and various minor league and summer collegiate league baseball teams.

All Interns must receive college credit for this internship OR this internship must qualify for a graduation requirement. All Interns will receive a housing & travel stipend for this internship. There are educational and work components to this position. Some of the work components may include tasks such as hanging signs, preparing the ballpark prior to the season, deliveries and other miscellaneous outdoor work.

Besides game day duties, each intern will be responsible for helping prepare and maintain the ballpark prior to the start of the season as well as participating in offsite catering events. All interns will participate in a weekly sports management class that will be instructed by front office personnel or outside speakers that have gained success in the industry.

In addition to your specific area of focus, all interns will have the opportunity to work with the staff to gain experience in the marketing and ticket sales department. Sales tasks will include calling renewals and single game ticket buyers, creating surveys to gauge the fan experience, answering incoming phone calls, placing ticket orders, and delivering tickets to clients. Marketing tasks will include creating on field promotions and nightly promotions as well as brainstorming ideas for new sponsorship prospects.

Public Relations (Writing) Internship

The Madison Mallards are seeking an individual to assist in the team’s public relations for the summer. This individual will write preview, recap and feature stories about the Mallards team, update the Mallards website with new and exciting content, and maintain the Mallards daily and season game programs. When applying, please provide writing examples or a link to your portfolio.

Responsibilities Include: - Write game previews and post-game recaps for every game, home and away - Providing new content to MallardsBaseball.com, including writing unique feature stories and

press releases- Produce the Mallards game day program - The Quack Report

o Analyze team stats to determine highlights- Assist local media outlets with interview requests, both television and print- Score all home games using Pointstreak software

Required Skills: - Exemplary writing ability, preferred experience in sports writing- Advanced knowledge of the game of baseball

o Experience scoring baseball is preferred but not requiredo Training on Pointstreak software will be provided

Graphic Design/Digital Media Production Internship

The Madison Mallards are seeking an individual to operate the team’s full color outfield video board for all 37 home games this summer and produce digital media for the team. This individual will also assist the Director of Marketing to ensure that all sponsorship and advertising contracts are fulfilled. They will also assist the PR Intern on editing photos for the team’s website. Please provide examples of graphic design work or a link to your portfolio with your application.

Responsibilities Include: - Become an expert with our video board software - ClickEffects - Design images with sponsor logos to be shown on the video board throughout the game - Design player cards for all home and visiting players- Coordinate with PA Announcer on timing and execution of in-game requirements and game-day

script- Assist with various graphic design projects as needed- Assist the PR Intern in creating graphics MallardsBaseball.com - Assist the Video Production and Webcast Intern in producing video content for use on the video

board- Creating motion graphics/animations if you have the skills

Required Skills: - Extensive knowledge of Adobe Photoshop is a must

Video and Webcast Production Internship

The Madison Mallards are seeking an individual to assist in producing a 4-camera webcast for each of their 37 home games that is streamed live on the Northwoods League (NWL) Stretch Internet platform. This individual will manage a crew of 7-10 camera operators. Please provide examples of video work or a link to your portfolio with your application.

Responsibilities Include: - Manage and schedule crew of 7-10 camera operators - Direct four-camera webcast broadcast for all 37 Mallards home games- Update rosters and stats graphics for use in game production- Create commercial breaks for every game- Option to produce pre- and post-game shows for each broadcast

o Can serve as on-air talent if interested in advancing broadcasting skills- Setup, breakdown, and maintaining of video production equipment- Manage Mallards YouTube channel- Assist with motion graphic creation for in-stadium video board, including motion player cards

using a green screen- Working with the Director of Marketing and Digital Media Production intern to create short

videos that can be used online and on the video board to enhance the fan experience at the "Duck Pond." Examples include, nightly video with our Chef, video spoofs, mascots doing crazy things, etc…

Required Skills: - Experience with video editing and software- Previous experience directing a broadcast preferred but not required- Proficient in video techniques, including camera positioning, lighting, etc. - Must be a creative thinker with the ability to think of new, fun ideas to improve the fan

Radio Broadcasting Internship

The Madison Mallards are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious individual to join the front office as the Radio Broadcaster. This is a seasonal internship, beginning in May 2019 and ending in mid-August. The candidate will serve as the radio broadcaster, traveling with the team during the season.

Responsibilities include:

• Sole play by play broadcaster for all 72 Northwoods League games on The Zone FM and AM stations including pre- and post-game shows, during the regular season (and playoffs if necessary)

• Write post-game recaps when traveling with the team for the team website• Produce radio commercials for the Mallards and business partners• Work closely with GM and Corporate Service team to include all sponsor and promotional live reads

each game

Optional Responsibilities:• Assist with content production for the Mallards game day program• Coordinate with video production intern to produce pre and post game shows for live webcast• Participate in weekly sports management classes, marketing experience program, and intern sales program

Required Skills:

• Proven experience doing play-by-play for baseball games• Ability to work and travel long hours, including weekends• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Willingness to assist where needed

Hours:

The radio broadcasting intern’s schedule will be dictated by the team’s travel schedule. This intern should expect to arrive at the ballpark four hours before first pitch for home games and work through the completion of the game and any post-game duties. When the team is traveling, this intern will be responsible for reporting to the bus prior to team departure time. No additional office hours will be required on days when the team is on the road.

Ticket Operations Internship

The Madison Mallards are seeking individuals to assist in the Mallards Ticket Office. The ticket operations interns will be assisting the Mallards staff in day-to-day ticket sales duties as well as operations as needed.

Responsibilities Include:

- Answering phones and directing customers to the appropriate Mallards staff member - Fulfilling orders, ticket swaps, and voucher redemptions- Working with our ticketing software to sell tickets over the phone and at the box office- Printing and managing will call tickets & windows - Delivering and pickup of tickets, signage and other general deliveries - Informing customers of different seating options and ticket packages the Mallards offer - Helping other departments as needed- Closing duties of the office and parts of the ballpark- Maintaining overall cleanliness of the front office and front gate area- Fulfilling donation requests from local fundraising groups- Coverings ticket office shifts on non-game days

Marketing Internship

The Madison Mallards are seeking creative and energetic individuals to assist in the Mallards marketing and promotional efforts. These individuals will be central to creating a world class fan experience at the Duck Pond. As members of our Quack Pack, the marketing interns will assist with all game day promotions and on-field activities, along with a variety of community initiatives. They will also work closely with the Sponsorship Activation managers and interns.

Responsibilities Include:

- Coordinate all on-field promotions and pre-game activities - Create new and fun on-field promotions - Write and manage game day scripts- Attend mascot and player appearances in the community - Willing to be the mascot if needed- Develop and execute various theme nights throughout the ballpark- Engage the crowd throughout the game and get them excited for Mallards baseball - Develop positive relationships with fans, clients, and community members to help promote the Madison Mallards - Deliver marketing materials throughout the Madison community - Ensure that the ballpark is ready and looking presentable each game day- Set-up the Fan Zone for every game- Assist the sponsorship activation team with tasks, as needed- Attend/facilitate special events such as community little league games, movie nights, parades, and baseball clinics

The Madison Mallards are seeking customer service oriented individuals to assist in the Mallards sponsorship activation and marketing efforts. These individuals will be central to creating a world class fan experience at the Duck Pond and overseeing the execution of sponsorship elements. The sponsorship activation interns will serve under the close supervision of the Director of Sponsorship Activation and Events and Sponsorship Activation and Community Relations Coordinator. They will also assist the marketing interns with on-field activities along with a variety of community initiatives.

Responsibilities Include:

- Oversee sponsorship contracts and ensure all elements are being executed in-season- Assist in preparing sponsorship recaps- Prepare sponsor related content for use in Mallards marketing materials, including social media, mass emails, and game day scripts- Attend/facilitate special events such as community little league games, movie nights, parades, and baseball clinics- Execute sponsorship contests, including gathering entries, calling winners, and facilitating prize distribution- Coordinate giveaways and contractual elements on game days- Attend mascot and player appearances in the community - Willing to be the mascot if needed- Assist with on-field promotions and pre-game activities - Develop positive relationships with fans, clients, and community members to help promote the Madison Mallards - Assist the creative services staff, as needed

Merchandise/Retail Management Internship

The Madison Mallards are seeking a dedicated and energetic individual to manage the Sports Impressions Team Green Merchandise Store at the Duck Pond. This individual will be central to maintaining a top notch merchandise store, while driving sales throughout the Mallards 2019 season. Great customer service is required. A background in retail/merchandising management is preferred.

Responsibilities include:

- Set-up and maintain a well-stocked, orderly store- Take inventory and price items- Train, schedule, and manage part-time game day staff - Interact with customers and be friendly/outgoing- Develop sales and specials to drive sales- Develop new marketing strategies for the Sports Impressions Team Green Store and items- Fulfill all online orders- Assisting customers with merchandise questions/concerns- Manage point of sale systems

Required Skills:

Game Day Green Team Member

The Madison Mallards are seeking creative and energetic individuals to assist in the Mallards marketing and promotions. These individuals will be central to creating a world class fan experience at the Duck Pond. As members of our Green Team, these individuals’ primary duty will be to entertain a crowd of 6,000+ on a nightly basis. Green Team members must be upbeat, outgoing individuals with the ability to interact with all types of people. This is an unpaid game day only internship. Green Team members will report 1 hour prior to gates opening for each game.

Responsibilities:

- Entertain the crowd throughout the game. Activities can include, but not limited to, dancing on the dugouts, leading crowd chants, and dressing up in various costumes

- Provide a high level of customer service to fans- Work with adults and children to ensure a fun and safe experience- Assist the marketing interns with in-game promotions as needed

Required Skills:

- Must have ability and desire to be creative, zany and fun-loving- Great communication and interpersonal skills- Positive, energetic personality- Must be reliable and punctual- Must have the ability to work with children and adults and be comfortable working in large

crowds- Must be able to work on their feet for the game’s duration, especially during summer heat

Hospitality Internship

The Madison Mallards are seeking full time hospitality interns. Hospitality interns will oversee our high-end clientele in our exclusive suites throughout the ballpark, in addition to being involved in various Special Events.

The Madison Mallards are seeking an individual to assist in the management of Food and Beverage, Merchandise, Hospitality and game day operations throughout the ballpark.

Responsibilities Include: - Ensuring that all aspects of stadium operations are completed in a timely manner - Processing all employment paperwork for part time staff - Extensive data entry for the first half of the internship- Ensuring compliance with state and federal labor laws - Scheduling, managing, and staffing of game day employees - Preparing the ballpark for opening day - Fielding and following up on questions by part time staff regarding clocking in and out, wages,

schedules, dress code etc.- Fielding questions and explaining payroll to the guardians of staff members at times

OLD Marketing Description

The Madison Mallards are seeking both full-time and game-day marketing interns. The marketing interns will serve under the close supervision of the Director of Marketing. These positions will work closely with the Director of Marketing to ensure all sponsorship and advertising contracts are implemented, assist with all game day promotions, attend special events such as Little League Games, movie nights, parades and Baseball Clinics.

Responsibilities Include:

- Coordinating all on-field promotions and pre-game activities - Creating new and fun on-field promotions - Attending mascot and player appearances in the community - Willing to be the mascot if needed- Purchasing costumes or other items to coordinate with theme nights - Developing positive relationships with fans, clients, and community member to help promote the Madison Mallards - Deliver marketing material in the Madison community - Deliveries/pickups, potentially to other teams- Running multiple contests by calling winners and facilitating their prize.- Ensuring that the ballpark is ready and looking presentable each game day- Closing duties at the end of each game (clean up, locking marketing areas etc)- Executing all Big Top Baseball sponsorship obligations

The Madison Mallards are seeking individuals to assist in the management of Food and Beverage for the 2018 season. Accepted applicants will serve under the close supervision of the Executive Chef and will assist in game-day staff management, scheduling, inventory maintenance, food preparation, employee training, task delegation, ordering and receiving, and other various responsibilities delineated by area.

Food & Beverage interns will oversee concessions areas, catering areas, and be involved in a range of Special Events throughout the season.

F&B/Operations Duties Include:

- Helping to assess and develop staff throughout the season- Assisting with scheduling- Minor Food & Labor Analysis- Planning and preparing for games and Special Events- Managing employee and guest relationships- Troubleshooting and recommending ways for the operation to improve- Maintaining clean and sanitary concessions spaces- Assisting with food and beverage orders and product receiving- Conducting weekly inventory- Aiding in food production when applicable- Misc. tasks in ballpark as needed

Required Skills:

- Ability to think on one's feet and problem solve in fast paced environment- Excellent communication skills - Willingness to work outdoors rain or shine as well as a kitchen environment- Ability to lift to 40 lbs.

F&B Opportunities :

- Interns will learn how to plan for and operate a multi-unit facility, cost analysis involving operations, special event coordination and planning, scheduling, training and developing team members, menu development and cost controls, cash handling, culinary skill development for large scale execution, menu design, and various administrative duties with HR. Additionally, each intern is encouraged to participate in the expansion of his/her role to suit individual capacities and interests to ensure a mutually beneficial work environment and one that leaves each individual significantly closer to attaining her/his short and long term goals.
