Welcome Second Grade Class Students and Parents of 2011
Ms. Brown
First Day Of school
BE READY TO WORK
When students arrive to class, I will hand them an entrance slip when they walk in. It is to be signed and dated.
There will also be an assignment posted on the board.
Take your seat and begin working on the assignments immediately.
At the start of class I will collect both assignments
ENTER ROOM QUIETLY
Classroom Rules
RULES WILL BE POSTED IN THE CLASSROOM
Follow directions the first time given
Keep hands and feet to yourself
Raise your hand to get out of your seat
Keep your voice to an inside working level
No put downs of classmates
IF YOU CHOOSE TO BREAK A RULE
1st time= name on board: warning.
2nd time= 15 minutes after school on Thursday.
3rd time= 30 minutes after school on Thursday.
4th time= 45 minutes after school on Thursday.
5th time= 60 minutes after school on Thursday. Referral written, and student sent to the office.
Severe disruption: student sent immediately to the office.
Names and checks erased each Thursday afternoon.
Restroom Procedures
QUICKLY QUIETLY
The pass will be located on the chalkboard
Only one student at a time may use the bathroom pass
Please go quickly and quietly and wash hands
If there is an emergency shake 3 fingers and I will sign yes or no back to you to avoid disruption
Attendance
The entrance slip I pass out at the beginning of class will be my attendance tracker
Students will sign and date these and I will collect when the bell rings
Be on time If not you will fill out a
tardy slip 5 tardy slips = missed
recess or after school detention
Homework Assignments
Each student will be given a homework folder
Left side= new homework Right side= Completed
homework Assignments will be posted on
the board at the beginning of the day
At the end of the day, I will pass out a copy of your homework assignments to put in your classroom folder to take home
When you get to class the next day, put your completed homework in the homework box
I will grade and pass back for you to take home
How should my papers be headed?
Name should be in the upper right hand corner on the first line.
The date should follow on the second line.
I will always have the date on the bored for you to look at.
You do not need to right the words name and date, I am just showing you an example

Seat work
INDIVIDUAL SEAT WORK Working on an
assignment by yourself.
Do not talk to your neighbor.
Work on assignment quietly.
If you have a question, you may raise your hand and I will come around to help you.
GROUP SEAT WORK
Working on assignment with assigned group members.
You may talk quietly with those in your group.
Talk quietly. Raise your hand if you
have a question and I will come around to help you.
Do not leave anybody out, or you will be cut from the group.
What can I do when seatwork is finished or I have free time?
After I have checked your completed seatwork, you may have free time and do one of the following:
Reading centerComputer centerListening centerWriting centerGamesOr work on homework at
your seat. Place your name in the area you are at.
Work quietly, so that other students can get their work finished.
Volume Control
When you have permission to talk, please talk with an in door voice. If it gets too loud, I will flip the light switch off! If you do not quiet down after the lights are off, you will be given a writing assignment about loud verses quiet. If you continue to misbehave you will have detention.
Handing out Classroom Materials
HELPERS
I will choose two students per week to be my helpers.
Their duties will be to pass out papers, collect papers, pass out other materials needed for that day such as: markers, scissors, glue, and other supplies.
Feed classroom fish. You will also be line leaders
to and from class.
BRENT AND JADE
Visitors
When we have visitors in the classroom you should be on your best behavior.
Be welcoming. Treat them with
respect. Be courteous. Wait and ask
questions until they say, do you have any questions.
Class Discussions
Class discussions are meant for students to participate and give feedback.
I want you to feel free to comment and add to classroom discussions.
In order for us to not talk over one another, I would like you to raise your hands when you have something to say.
Classroom Departure
STUDENT LINE UP
When we are leaving to go to other classrooms or lunch students will wait for me to dismiss and line up
When I dismiss to line up, students must do so quietly
Line leaders will be in the front of the line
Students will stand in straight line and no talking, then we can head out
Walking no running
MOVING THROUGH HALLS As we are walking
through the halls to classrooms or lunch, we will remain in a single file line
Remain quiet We will always walk
down the right side of the halls when we are coming and going
Fire/Tornado Drills
Bell will sound Students will line
up and be dismissed by teacher .
We will walk to designated area.
Sit down. Students may talk
quietly.
At the end of the day!
We will line up 3 minutes before the bell rings.
We will walk to our designated area, where students can get on the bus or be picked up by their parent or guardian.
Anyone staying after school will return to the classroom with me until their ride arrives.
We are going to have a great year!
