Wecome back to school and to Term One!

It is a pleasure to have your child in my class this year and what a fabulous year it is going to be! This year is going to be filled with excitement, fun and rich learning experiences that cater for and meet your child’s individual social, emotional, spiritual, physical and educational needs. Term One Homework… Year Five homework has already commenced for the term. Students are responsible for completing all homework tasks on time and for bringing their completed homework to school each day, so it can be discussed and marked. Students who fail to complete homework tasks on time will be asked to ‘catch up’ and complete unfinished activities in their own time.

This term there will be 3 components of homework to complete. These are listed below.

1. Reading – students are to read for 10 minutes each night. The book and pages they have read need to be recorded in their student homewor/communication booklet. I encourage parents to listen to their child read at least one night per week. This will assist your child to improve their fluency and comprehension.

2. Mental Maths – students are to complete a daily set of

questions (Monday to Friday) and the Problem Solving tasks in their New Wave Mental text. Daily Maths sets will be marked the following day at school.

3. LSCWC Activity – students are to complete a ‘Look, Say, Cover,

Write, Check’ on their spelling list words each night (Monday to Thursday). Friday’s LSCWC will be done ‘in class’ as revision for Friday’s Spelling/Dictation Test.

Please note: Parents are encouraged to allow the responsibility of homework to be owned by their child. Homework reinforces the concepts and skills being taught at school so students shouldn’t need extensive parental assistance to complete homework tasks. If your child is experiencing difficulty with the assigned homework tasks, please do not hesitate to contact me so we can arrange a modified program that suits your child’s needs and ability. STUDENT HOMEWORK/COMMUNICATION GRIDS ARE TO BE SIGNED BY PARENTS ON A WEEKLY BASIS! SIGNATURES WILL BE CHECKED EACH FRIDAY BY THE TEACHER.
