Life in ancient Greece center around the Aegean Sea.

Greeks became sailors and traders.

Greeks brought grapes, wine, olives, wool and pottery.

Greeks traded for meat, lumber and vegetables.

Greeks set up colonies around the Aegean world.

The ancient Greeks built independent city-states.

Spartans had the best army in Greece.

Children were raised to be strong and useful to the city-

state.

Spartan girls were also trained to defend the city-state.

Spartans played sports and grew strong.

Athens

One of the most important places in Athens was the agora.

People were able to talk about the government because Athens was a democracy.

The Acropolis was made up of many buildings.

Socrates was famous for asking questions about almost everything.

The Greeks watched plays in outdoor theaters.

Phoenicians became famous for trading.
