DAY 1: Basic Option: Nova Levante to Passo Costalunga to Moena Approximately 25 miles with 2,100 feet of climbing

Your Trek Travel guides will meet you at the Bolzano Central Train Station (Piazza della Stazione, Bolzano) at 1:00 PM on the first day of the trip. From there, your guides will shuttle you to Nova Levante where, surrounded by the mountains, your Trek Travel guides will discuss the rules of bike safety and specific tips for the Dolomites. They will spend time familiarizing you to your Trek Domane for the week, and ensure that you have a comfortable fit. You’ll ride out of town with your cycling companions and quickly begin your first climb, heading east out of the Adige Valley and into the Eastern Dolomiti. Stop to see the colorful waters of Lago di Carezza in the forests approaching the summit. You’ll ascend the Val d’Ega and reach 5751 feet at Passo Costalunga before a great descent into the Val di Fassa and the town of Moena. Enjoy a pre-dinner stroll through this mountain village, as the sun casts its golden light on the beautiful peaks above. This evening, you’ll gather at the hotel and discuss the week ahead, before you savor the diversity of flavors from the Italian cucina to fuel up for tomorrow’s adventures.

DAY 2: Basic Option: Moena to Marmolada Loop Approximately 50 miles with 7,200 feet of climbing

Short Option: Moena to Passo Fedaia Approximately 30 miles with 3,500 feet of climbing

Avid Option: Passo Valles add-on Approximately 65 miles with 8,900 feet of climbing

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you’ll begin another day of spectacular riding by heading north through the ski village of Canazei where the climbing really begins. The climb? The formidable Passo Fedaia. You’ll pedal in the shadows of Marmolada Glacier to the summit, to enjoy views of Lago di Fedaia. On the steep descent, the route shows off the great Monte Civetta and takes you through Alleghe—a picturesque lakeside community. Refuel at a bistro in Alleghe before the next climb! Take your pick of the charming cafes overlooking this azure alpine lake. Shortly after your break, it will be time to climb Passo San Pellegrino. Just under 6560 feet, the Passo has one particularly grueling section! At the top, all that is left to do is descend, and you’ll reach the front door of the hotel in Moena without a pedal stroke. Tonight you will have a chance to eat at a restaurant of your choice, perhaps a pizzeria or a trattoria will satisfy your craving for the evening.

DAY 3: Basic Option: Sella Ronda Loop Approximately 62 miles with 7,900 feet of climbing

Short Option: Moena to Passo Sella Return Approximately 36 miles with 6,000 feet of climbing

Avid Option: Passo Fedaia add-on Approximately 77 miles with 10,700 feet of climbing

The Sella Loop will be one of the most memorable rides of your trip as you pedal in the shadows of the Sella Massif and its dramatic, sheer cliffs. The green pastures and beautiful fresh air will complement the vividness of the remarkable grey mountains. The four passes on the route are regular highlights in the Giro d’Italia. The first climb, Passo di Sella, is the more challenging climb, with the most elevation gain, but also rewards you with an incredible view of the jagged peak of the Sassolungo. The next three passes - Gardena, Campolongo, and Pordoi - are still challenging, but as luck would have it, you don’t start from the valley bottom for these climbs. Three of these four passes exceed 6800 feet and command amazing views across the range. You will enjoy a packed lunch on the summit of Passo Campolongo before the last ascent of the day, Pordoi. The ride finishes with a breathtaking downhill into the valley toward Moena to prepare you for your dinner among friends, back at the hotel.

Hotel | Hotel Dolomiti | www.HotelDolomitiMoena.it

DAY 4: Basic Option: Prato allo Stelvio to Bormio via Passo Stelvio Approximately 29 miles with 6,150 feet of climbing

A private morning shuttle takes you north toward the Austrian and Swiss borders. Along the way you’ll see the gradual change in landscape and tempo from the serenity of the quaint mountains to the hustle and bustle of the meeting point between the Venosta and Adige Valleys. Once deep into the Venosta Valley, Mount Stelvio awaits, and the opportunity to climb up its “classic” side. With over 14 miles and 48 switchbacks you’ll rise from 3100 to 9045 feet to conquer the highest road in the eastern Alps and one of the most beautiful passes imaginable, finishing with endless views into the mountains toward Switzerland from the summit. After a well-deserved lunch you descend to the town of Bormio, located in the Lombardy region of the Italian Alps - a famous ski resort only recently opening up as a cycling destination. Relax this evening and enjoy the excellent facilities of your picturesque hotel to enjoy a hearty traditional dinner before a restful and well-deserved sleep.

DAY 5: Basic Option: Bormio to Torre di Fraele Return Approximately 18 miles with 4,000 feet of climbing

Afternoon in Bormio

After stocking up on a plentiful mountain breakfast, you’re invited to take your pick from a range of different activities. Enjoy an early morning climb up to the Torre di Fraele - where every switchback rewards you with better and better views of the town of Bormio and the stunning scenery of the surrounding Italian Alps. Enjoy the impressive views from the ruins of an ancient abandoned fortress at the summit before descending back to the hotel. This afternoon, relax in the hotel spa or maybe head into Bormio to do some shopping. Alternatively take a revitalizing dip in the town’s extensive thermal baths to rest your mind, body and soul in anticipation of tomorrow’s epic double ascent of the infamous climbs of Mortirolo and Gavia.

Hotel | Hotel Baita dei Pini | www.BaitaDeiPini.com

DAY 6: Basic Option: Bormio to Passo Mortirolo Approximately 25 miles with 4,200 feet of climbing

Short Option: Passo Gavia Approximately 50 miles with 5,000 feet of climbing

Avid Option: Passo Mortirolo & Passo Gavia Approximately 75 miles with 11,100 feet of climbing

Today is your chance to climb the Mortirolo and Gavia. A serious challenge after a long week of cycling that will make reaching the top that much sweeter. The route will first take you south and as you lose elevation, you’ll have a chance to spin out your legs. Arriving at the base of the Mortirolo’s classic side will inspire you to push yourself one more time. The narrow, winding road is incredibly steep in parts with an average grade of 10.5% - mercifully the climb is only 7.5 miles. Much of the climb weaves through the forest with glimpses of the views below. Your guides will be close by to cheer you on and refill your water as you need it. However, one last climb remains for this trip—the Gavia—a long but steady climb, with a celebration at the top. This will be your last ascent for the trip and you will be both invigorated and exhausted! You’ll descend back to Bormio and wrap up this epic day - and the trip - with a cocktail at the hotel followed by a farewell dinner.

MILAN

A lot can be said and written about Milan. A town of ancient origins, founded by the Celts and conquered by the Romans, it saw its splendor increase during the Renaissance when the Visconti family first, and then the Sforza, ruled the city. During this period, the magnificent gothic Duomo was built, and artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Bramante came to work in the city, leaving great masterpieces like the “Cenacolo di Leonardo.” During the Austrian Imperial dynasty of the Hapsburgs, the world-renowned Scala Theatre was created and instantly became the fulcrum of the artistic life of the town. Milan is also an international capital of fashion and design, with a very lively cultural scene. Major theaters and the hundreds of art galleries and events cause visitors to think that Milan never sleeps. We recommend the following accommodations for your post-trip hotel:

Hotel Regina | via Cesare Correnti, 13 | +39 0258 106 913 | www.HotelRegina.it | ~$395

A small hotel with individually decorated rooms, this four-star hotel has a private interior garden and plenty of charm to add to your enjoyment of Milan. 43 rooms.

Hotel Gran Duca di York | via Moneta, 1 | +39 02 874 863 | www.DucaDiYork.com | ~$425

The Gran Duca di York is a newly renovated, comfortable and romantic hotel in an 18th century building. Its central location makes this three-star hotel an excellent choice from which to enjoy Milan.

Hotel Berna | Via Napo Torriani, 18 | +39 02 677 311 | vwww.HotelBerna.com | ~$378

A well-located 4 star hotel within a 5 minute walk to the central station and airport shuttles. It has been recently renovated and makes a convenient stay before flying home.
