The Leadership Detroit experience pulled back the curtain of the city and region. It was not only an opportunity to learn more about current and past events, but also a chance for me to grow personally and professionally.

Leadership Detroit reminded me about all that is good in the metro Detroit area. If we have this group leading us, then I am hopeful for the future and whatever may come our way. I felt like I was part of something much bigger than me or even the times we live in.

For 40 years, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Leadership Detroit program has set the standard for excellence in leadership through a steadfast commitment to challenge long-held assumptions, embrace multiple perspectives, and connect leaders with their passion. Emphasizing self-awareness and knowledge of the key issues that affect our region, Leadership Detroit set out to strengthen relationships among diverse leaders to bring about positive change in the community.

As you embark on your journey, I urge you to lean in and take full advantage of the experience. Challenge yourself to remain open to the plethora of ideas and perspectives offered by your classmates and presenters. Take the personal time to reflect on your attitudes and views as we move through the year. Be intentional about investing in your own leadership potential and be ready to stretch yourself to take on new opportunities and challenges.

Our region is experiencing rapid change. While this change is positive for many communities, others live with the promise of a better tomorrow. As we work through the year and move toward graduation, our collective goal is that each of you, in your own unique way, will be inspired to stay connected to your classmates and to the issues that will shape your experience.
