CREDITS FOR GRADUATION

• 23 required credits• 4 English (9th Grade Lit, World Lit, American Lit,

British Lit)

• 4 Math (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II/Pre-calculus, AMDM)

• 4 Science (Biology, Physical Science, 2 more various courses)

• 3 Social Studies (World History, US History, Government/Economics)

• Personal Fitness and Health or 3 years of ROTC

• 3 Fine Arts/Foreign Language/CTAE credits

• 4 other elective credits (can be any variety of academic, fine arts, foreign language, CTAE, or physical education credits)

COHORT VS.

GRADE LEVEL

• Cohort: Year that a student should graduate based upon when they entered the 9th grade (i.e. Cohort 2022, Cohort 2023, etc.). This number does not change.

• Grade Level: Grade distinction for a student (i.e. 9th, 10th, etc.) in Infinite Campus that is based upon the number of credits that the student has earned. This number will change as students earn the required number of credits.

• 10th grade = 5 or more credits• 11th grade = 11 or more credits• 12th grade = 17 or more credits

ACADEMIC RECOVERY

OPPORTUNITIES

• Unit Recovery: • Ongoing while the student is taking the

class• Created and facilitated by the teacher• Purpose is to allow students to recover

learning on specific standards based upon unit assessment data

• Students will complete teacher created interventions in a specific time period and will be re-assessed on those standards

• The grade from the Unit re-assessment can be used to replace practice work and/or assessment grades for that Unit

ACADEMIC RECOVERY

OPPORTUNITIES

•Grade Repair:• Available to students who earn a Course

Final Average between 60-69 in Core courses that are required for graduation

• Occurs over a two-week period after report cards go home

• Students who successfully complete program will receive a grade change to a 70 for the course in place of the original failing grade

• Students who do not successfully complete the two-week program will maintain the original grade on the transcript

• Only available following 1st and 2nd semesters, not available for Summer courses

ACADEMIC RECOVERY

OPPORTUNITIES

• Credit Recovery: • Available to students who earn a Course Final

Average between 55-69 in a Core course required for graduation

• Occurs beyond the school day either virtually or in-person depending on the course

• Milestone courses will also require students to take the Milestone exam at the conclusion of the credit recovery course and the score will account for 20% of the overall grade

• Successful completion of a credit recovery course will result in the grade earned being reflected on the transcript as well as the original failing grade

• Note for potential collegiate athletes: the NCAA does not recognize credit recovery

OPPORTUNITIES

• Course Repetition:• Available to students who fail a course with

a grade below 55 or those who do not wish to participate in Grade Repair and/or Credit Recovery

• Student will retake the course through one of the following options:

• As part of the student's schedule at MHS• As a fee-associated course outside of the

students schedule through Impact Academy, GA Virtual School, or other approved non-traditional options

• Upon completion, the grade for the new course and the original failing grade will be reflected on the transcript and calculate into the GPA

TUTORING

• Tutoring will be offered in the areas of Math, Science, English, and Social Studies on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00pm

• During the 1st Semester, tutoring will be offered during the months of September, October, and November

• During the 2nd Semester, tutoring will be offered during the months of February, March, and April

• Students and/or Parents should inquire with their teacher about signing up for tutoring on a week-by-week basis (space may be limited)

Transcript Request Process

As of right now, all transcript requests must be submitted to Ms.

Shenita Harris at [email protected]. Transcript requests

for Georgia colleges/universities will be sent electronically through

GAFutures. Transcripts for out of state colleges/universities will be

mailed.

Types of Scholarships

❏ National scholarships

❏ Institutional scholarships (refer to the college websites)

❏ Local scholarships (the MHS counseling department will

publish a scholarship directory listing local scholarships.

Scholarship applications will also be posted on the

counseling webpage as they become available.

❏ Apply! Apply! Apply! Don’t let an essay deter you from

applying for scholarships!!

★ Some colleges/universities and/or scholarship applications will require a letter of recommendation.

★ Seniors who need a letter of recommendation, must submit a recommendation request only once.

The recommendation request form can be found on the senior webpage and in the Class of 2022

Google classroom. We will keep a copy of the completed recommendation request on file if you

need to provide it to a teacher.

★ Please allow at least seven business days for the recommendation to be completed by your assigned

counselor. We will not be able to process recommendation requests without allowing adequate time

for your counselor to write a quality recommendation.

★ Make sure to check with the college/university to determine if a letter of recommendation is needed.

Some colleges/universities (ex. Georgia State University) do not require a letter of recommendation.

Letters of Recommendation

Tips for Senior Parents➢ Every senior needs a post-secondary plan. All seniors do not have to go to a four-year college.

Post-secondary options include four-year college, two-year college, technical college, military,

apprenticeship programs, and the workforce. There are a lot of good paying jobs that do not

require a four-year college degree! Help your senior to understand that it’s okay to not know

what he/she wants to do after high school. Students who are unsure need to reach out to

Ms. Vu, our college advisor, his/her counselor, or the graduation coach for assistance.

➢ Monitor senior grades using Infinite Campus and stay in contact with your student’s teachers.

Senior grades count! Seniors must maintain their grades for college/university final

acceptance, qualification for scholarships, and etc. Keep that GPA up! Help your senior to

avoid senioritis, which is a big problem for seniors!

➢ Play a Supporting Role. Allowing your child to lead will reinforce the idea that they are mature adults prepared to leave the nest, and will help them develop resilience and self-confidence.

➢ Take care of yourself! Self-care is not selfish! Take some time to keep your cup filled! It’s

hard for you to continue to pour into the lives of everyone else if you’re running on empty!

Find ways to nourish your mind, body, and soul! Things as simple as going for a walk,

exercising, stretching, deep breathing, reading, meditating, writing in a gratitude journal,

sleeping in, getting a spa treatment, and/or connecting w/loved ones can make a difference!

• It is part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

• The purpose of Title I under the ESSA is to ensure that all children have

a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality

academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.
