When Anything is Possible

Dear Class of 2013,The Class of 2013 has experienced many changes throughout our short time here at JMU.

The tradition and spirit that the JMU students embody, though, will never change. The memories experienced here at JMU can be commemorated by purchasing a class ring.

JMU redesigns the ring every year based on the interests and events that are unique to the class. A selected committee has worked for months to design and present a ring that consists of the traditions and memories that the Class of 2013 values. The Balfour representatives, FourDesign team, JMU faculty, and the Harrisonburg community helped make the committee’s dreams a reality.

Your child will soon be receiving a formal invitation to participate in the unveiling of the Class of 2013’s ring. The annual Ring Premiere is an event that your son or daughter will not want to miss. The ring will be unveiled, prizes will be given out, refreshments will be served, and entertainment groups will perform, but most importantly, another Class of 2013 memory will be made. Balfour representatives will be present to show various ring styles and help find the best ring for your child. We hope your student will attend the Ring Premiere on March 22nd at 6 p.m. in the Festival Ballroom to share time with their fellow class members and to commemorate their joyous time at JMU.

The Class of 2013 is a class that is very unique in themselves. Since the first time we stepped on campus, we have heard the students yelling “J-M-U DUUUUUKES!” The Class of 2013 is proud to participate in this tradition as well. To capture the personality of the Class of 2013, this year’s committee chose to display Dukes on the top of the ring, for the first time ever. We wanted to show the rest of the world how noble we are as Dukes of James Madison University. When we are all together, “anything is possible.” The Ring Premiere will commemorate all that we have done here at JMU and all that we love about “our home away from home.” We hope your son or daughter will be able to participate in the 13th Hour Ring Premiere!

Sincerely,

Ann Marie SmithClass of 2013 Ring Premiere Chair

Before deciding to come to JMU, I’m sure each of us heard positive stories about campus life and that most students love it here. The reason quickly became apparent the day we took our first steps on campus, maybe on a tour or at summer springboard. As cliché as it sounds, we all know that the people at JMU are one of the main reasons we have all grown to love going to school here. To some, JMU has become our second home.

We may only be a few semesters into our seemingly short journey at JMU, but our time here has been inconceivably eventful nonetheless. Who could have ever predicted a win over Virginia Tech, East Campus Library rave, Snowpocalypse, and ranking third-best food in the nation! JMU is constantly surprising me and never disappoints. JMU is growing and changing in ways unimaginable. We truly are the class where anything is possible. The enjoyable times here at JMU have quickly come, and although it may seem like it’s been too fast, we’re only halfway there! There will be more memories to come between now and graduation.

JMU has always been about tradition, but it is also very much about change. Look around this campus and you will see construction beyond every turn. You will see not only buildings being renovated, but lives being changed as well. Our job as a class is to be a part of tradition, but also to introduce change and a new face to the university. As you will see, we’ve incorporated both of these aspects of JMU into our class ring as well.

To continue our tradition, I cordially invite the entire Class of 2013 to the Ring Premiere on Tuesday, March 22nd at 6 p.m. At our Ring Premiere, you will be able to see the unveiling of the ring design while partaking in countless festivities and giveaways. Your Ring Premiere Committee and I have put a lot of time and thought into the design of the ring and the organization of the Ring Premiere. We all have diverse pasts, have experienced varied and different aspects of life at JMU, and have brought all of our ideas and experiences to the table to represent the Class of 2013 as a whole.

This opportunity for me has truly been a gift, and I’m looking forward to the rest of my experiences here at JMU. I want to thank the Ring Premiere Committee, which put in the time and dedication to help this event happen. I also want to thank the entire class for your continued support, involvement, and spirit. We are JMU! I have no doubt that everyone will enjoy themselves at the Premiere, and I hope to see everyone there!

Sincerely,

Matthew KleinSophomore Class President

Dear Class of 2013 Parents,

University Side Class SideSunset The sunset can be very alluring to people all across campus. The view can be taken in from eating in Festival, watching it from a classroom on the Quad, walking with a group of friends, or playing a game of softball on the UREC turf. No matter where we go in life, a sunset will always remind us of the wonderful memories we were a part of at JMU.

Railroad, 81 and Exit 245 JMU is very unique in that we are the only school with a railroad and a highway running through our campus. These different means of travel represent the diversity at JMU and the fact that despite our differences we all come together as a university and create great things.

View of ISAT through Campus There are many buildings at JMU that make it one of a kind, including ISAT, “the Village,” and Wilson Hall. The view looking down from ISAT is empowering and makes students feel proud as they take in the history of their school.

James Madison Statue The school is named after an inspiring and innovative man. The statue on the Quad reminds us of the classy and down-to-earth manner that JMU students all have and continues to inspire us as we remember who we are, where we come from, and what we can become if we honor the school’s motto, “Knowledge is liberty.”

Quad The Quad represents the incredible scenery at JMU. The Quad is the common place for everyone to come together, “all together as one.” Snow, people eating and basking in the sun, and busy students have all been on the Quad, and no matter what, the beauty is taken in of JMU and the Harrisonburg area.

Streamers and Snowflakes Our first year at JMU, we experienced a rare two-foot snowstorm. Although the snow kept us from attending classes, it did not keep us from attending a giant snowball fight on the Quad. These snowflakes are joined with the recognizable tradition of streamers. The two of these symbols represent the excitement, enthusiasm, and passion for fun within the JMU students.

Duke Dog The beloved Duke Dog represents the JMU students’ school spirit. His construction hat symbolizes JMU’s growth, with new buildings and within the students. The Forbes Center, the expansion of the football field, E-hall, dorm renovations, new UREC fields, and many more new buildings have come during the Class of 2013’s time at JMU.

Book The book shows the commitment JMU students have to their academics and personal growth. The paw print in the book shows that JMU students make our mark wherever we go: whether it be in ECL, a classroom, or across the world, we make a difference and always “Respect Madison.”

Football Stadium The expanding stadium represents the growth, strength, and desire to be the best we can in all aspects. The constant growth that takes place at JMU helps the entire school grow as a community and the students grow as individuals.
