CLASS 6 ENGLISH LESSON PLAN Date :27th April Lesson Plan # 2 Topic : Modal verbs 2 Time : 40 minutes Last week we looked at : Modal verbs - ‘helping’ verbs, also called auxiliary verbs, which indicate necessity or possibility. Modal verbs include : must shall will should would can could may might ought to have to Revision - which of the following is not a modal verb: shall might ought to have to eat write can could change wish may should will be must have Write down/underline the modal verbs. The picture on the left is of an aqueduct in France called the Pont du Gard. It was built by the Ancients Romans. We can write sentences about the aqueduct using modal verbs which will vary the meaning in a subtle way. For example: We must visit the Pont du Gard when we go on holiday to France. (This implies a sense of necessity, urgency.) We should visit the Pont du Gard when we are in France. (This conveys less urgency.) Exercise 1) Write 5 sentences about the Pont du Gard using different modal verbs and say how the meanings differ. Exercise 2) Write 5 similar sentences about somewhere like Cheddar Gorge in Somerset where you will see stalactites and stalagmites.
