SPORTS UPDATE

On Thursday 30th August we hosted our annual Cross Country event. There was a field of excited Class 1’s, 2s and 3’s at the start of the 1.2km route. When the starting bell went off the young field runners were quick into the first corner towards The Shed. First place for the girls was taken by Gabriella Soltau in Class 3, in a time of 7:54. First place for the boys was taken by Loghann Tilsley in Class 3, clocking a time of 5:42, one second ahead of Geoffrey Collins in his class. The Class 4 – 7s were to embark on their 2.5km route and they were as eager as the younger classes to get their race underway. In similar fashion, when the bell went the whole group disappeared into that first corner. Soon enough the winners were spotted darting through the gate towards the finish line. The girls race was won by Laylah Petersen in Class 5, in a time of 13:55 and the boys race was won by David Smith in Class 6, in 10:45. The High School’s 5km start was delayed by a few minutes as the 1.2km race was done at such a frantic pace that the finishers were streaming in altogether. The slow paced start picked up very quickly and resulted in excellent finishing times achieved by Hannah Laubser in Class 9 with a time of 25:10 and Rivalelo Ngobeni in Class 10 winning the boys race in 16:59. The top three runners in each race received medals and all the participants will be receiving certificates of participation. Huge congratulations to all the winners and well done to all participants! A big thank you to all the teachers and staff for their support during this annual event.
