English- Day 1
Activity: Read through the poem called ‘Nut Tree’ and
choose your favourite stanza. Practise reading each word,
making sure you understand it first. Then, practise reading
the stanza until you can perform it fluently and with
confidence.

Nut Tree by Julia Donaldson
Small, brown, hard, round, The nut is lying underground.
Now a shoot begins to show. Now the shoot begins to grow.
Tall, taller, tall as can be, The shoot is growing into a tree.
And branches grow, and stretch and spread With twigs and leaves above your head.
And on a windy autumn day The nut tree bends, the branches sway,

window and look for natural objects that you can find.
Select your favourite 3 objects, draw them and think of
some descriptive vocabulary appropriate for each image.

This is David Best. He has done lots of paintings of
the Lake District. His painting style has developed
over the years, moving from more traditional to
abstract. He describes his paintings as a type of
‘abstract realism’ as it is the interaction of many
abstract coloured shapes that make up the
image as a whole.
Activity: Look at the pictures of David Best’s artwork and use the
questions below to write your thoughts about it.
How would you describe the colours?
What kind of colours have been used?
How has this painting been made?
What do you see when you look at this painting?
How does the painting make you feel?
How do you think the artist was feeling when he painted this?

Activity 1: Look at the list of objects and see how many of
them you have in your house.
Activity 2: Then, decide which ones are hardware and which
ones are software and make two lists in a table.
If you can print the sheet then do but if not, you can just draw out
a table with two columns- one for ‘hardware’ and one for
‘software’.
