Kite Stribling Circle Annual Report
Celebrates 56 years as an active UMW circle
The Kite Stribling Circle was organized in
May of 1960. The circle was named for Mrs. S.Y.
(Kite) Stribling. Those present for this first meeting
were: Mrs.. Kite Stribling, Mrs. Catherine Stribling,
Mrs. Jeanette Crowder, Mrs. Julian Lindsey, Mrs. Joe
Hogan, Mrs. Linda Mauney, and Mrs. Buck Hall
(wife of current pastor). Officers were elected; pur-
pose and objectives were decided.
In January of 1961, Mrs. Carolyn Hodges,
Mrs. Charlotte Reeves and Mrs. Malcolm Fry joined
the circle. By the end of 1961, there were twelve ac-
tive members in the circle.
At our December meeting at the Connection
Ministry Building we celebrated the continued com-
mitments, objectives and mission outreach we
strongly believe in. Jennifer Boydstun installed our

Happy New Year from the CFUMC Preschool!
We had a wonderful time celebrating the birth of Jesus
in preschool. Thanks to Rev. Brian Butler, Pastor, and
Brian Butcher, Director of Youth and Children‟s Min-
istries, for taking part in our Christmas program, and
thanks to the church members who attended.
In January we will begin teaching the children
about the life of Jesus. We will talk about Jesus visit-
ing the temple as a young boy and talk about the friends that helped spread the Gospel. As
we learn about winter, we will have pajama day with pancakes and hot chocolate.
It is never too late in the year to begin preschool. We have openings in all
classes. We are also searching for a part time teacher assistant to work in Mrs. Linda‟s
two's class on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. If you are interested or know anyone who
is interested, please contact us by email at [email protected] or call
Susan Weidner, Preschool Director, at 706-499-1224.

Children and Youth Ministries What a wonderful December! This month
our Youth Group took a trip to Skyzone, an indoor
trampoline park in Buford. The students enjoyed
literally bouncing off the walls, jumping in foam
pits, playing trampoline dodgeball, and dunking
basketballs all afternoon. Also, the best news of all,
no one was hurt! The students had a great time and
are already asking to go back! Our youth also had their annual Christmas
party and white elephant gift exchange. They enjoyed a nice meal together
and exchanged goofy gifts with one another. Last but not least, the ladies en-
joyed a Christmas Dessert Party and “Sock Swap” at the Butcher‟s
(pictured).
Coming up for the youth is a Ski Retreat, February 17-20th! We are
headed to Winterplace, WV for a weekend of fun and worship. There is still
room to sign up, and the $150 trip deposit is due as soon as possible. The full
cost of the trip, including ski equipment, lesson, lodging, and most meals, is $300. Financial
assistance is available, and students seeking aid should contact Brian as soon as possible.
Our Children‟s Ministry performed a wonderful Christ-
mas play, "Christmas in a Box," on Wednesday, December 7th
for a large audience. They used various household items to help
tell the Christmas story. The children also sang some classic Christmas songs.
Many thanks to our fabulous directors, Katie Grady and LeAnne Challenger.
Thank you also to our pianist, Miriam Strong; our stage hands, Candice Hol-
comb, Kelly Burgess, Sylvia Hotard and Jen Kafsky; our costume creators, Bill
and Edie Bolton; and our sound technician, Bruce Forbes! We couldn‟t have done it without you! The follow-
ing week our Children‟s Ministry enjoyed their cast party, where they got to eat snacks and go caroling in Ley-
land Hills. It was a great time for all!
Coming up for our Children‟s Ministry, let's learn to serve! Wednesday nights 6:30-7:30pm in January
and February kids Pre-K through 5th grade are invited to join us for Service Quest. Classes include Kids in the
Kitchen, Craftin' Kids, Construction Kids, and Kid Concoctions. Kids will learn some new skills and will
make items to be auctioned Wednesday, March 8th. Proceeds will go to Food 2 Kids. All are welcome! Bring
a friend!
There is lots to celebrate in 2016 for our Youth and Children‟s Ministry! There is also a lot to look for-
ward to in 2017! Our Youth and Children‟s Ministries are grateful for all of our volunteers, but we need more
people to serve! If you are willing, please contact Brian Butcher. No one is “too old,” and the roles and time
commitments vary. We welcome anyone who has a desire to serve our precious children and youth!

Connectional Ministry News The Habersham United Methodist Connectional Ministry wrapped
up 2016 with a Celebration and Calendar Planning meeting at The Con-

2016 and prepared for another exciting year in 2017. Our church hosted
this gathering, and our Hospitality Committee provided delicious refresh-
ments to follow (pictured). Connectional Group 3 is surely blessed!
Coming up this month, save the date for Sunday, January 29th at 6:00pm for
a 5th Sunday Night Singing. Ebenezer UMC will be our host, and we will have a

Prison Ministry Update We are very excited we got to visit the Habersham Detention Center this year. On Christmas
Eve we delivered ten filled gift bags to the women inmates at The Detention Center through Angel
Tree Project 2016. What a privilege to get to spend time with the women. I will be learning more
about how our Prison Ministry program can partner with the Detention Center. They only require a
background check once with no need for annual renewal. Anyone who is interested in becoming in-
volved can contact Ellen Boyd, Prison Ministry Leader, 770-540-1771.

Last quarter we talked about the construction techniques we use in
building handicap ramps. In this article we will talk about administration.
Although the Mission Team has done projects ranging from Minnesota
to Mississippi, since 2012 we have held to a much more local perspective. Pro-
jects generally are completed in a day. We work in Habersham and adjoining
counties (note-South Hall is not an adjoining county). We don‟t hold formal
meetings, although project discussion and planning are regular topics at the
Thursday morning United Methodist Men‟s breakfast, 7:30am at Crossroads
Cafe. When a project is scheduled, about 5-7 days in advance, an email blast is
sent to all members indicating the time and place. Membership is informal; CFUMC membership is not man-
datory. The only required skill is a willing attitude. Simply give us, Jerry Med-
lock or Dave McClure (contact information for each listed below), your email
address and ask to be added to the notification list.
Projects come from numerous sources, most commonly:
The various home healthcare organizations in our area.
The Disability Resource Center (DRC), another 501c3 serving the
impaired and disabled in our area.
Habitat for Humanity.
The CFUMC Church Office has become popular lately.
A few projects have come from people who saw us on a job site and stopped to inquire.
Funding comes from several sources. Mission Team is included in the CFUMC budget. Through our
affiliation with the 501c3 Assisting the Needs for the Disabled, funds are obtained from the HEMC Roundup
program. DRC often funds their referrals. Recipients are asked to pay what they can toward materials, and any
extra they can manage to Food 2 Kids. Finally we occasionally receive donations from the Thrift Store and
from other Good Samaritans.
Contact Jerry Medlock, 706-768-3111 or [email protected], or
Dave McClure, 706-776-8439 or [email protected] to inquire.

Special Giving Sunday: Human Relations Day, January 15th "Your gift gives ordinary people an extraordinary voice."
On January 15th we will join United Methodists across the US in collecting the Human Relations Day
Special Offering. This offering supports a wide variety of ministries to people living on the margins, including
child care, economic development, education, hunger and poverty, HIV/Aids, older adults, parenting, restora-
tive justice, substance abuse and rehab, and at-risk teens. In the words of Martin Luther King, Jr, “Life's most
persistent and urgent question is, „What are you doing for others?‟” We can begin to answer that together
through the power of combined giving on Human Relations Sunday.

The Pastor’s Report
Some Thank You Notes
The pastor and staff thank all of you for the wonderful Christmas gift
of the love offering. We also thank you for your Christmas Eve offering
which totaled $2883.48 in support of Camp Evergreen. Your December giv-
ing to Bridging Generations Faith Commitment Campaign was extremely generous.
There is an update in the “Give” section, page 8. Thank you for your generous giving to-
wards the various missions and ministries of CFUMC!
God bless you all for your prayerful support. Happy New Year!
Love in Christ,
Pastor Brian T. Butler
