Clare County
4-H Program Coordinator’s Message
With summer in sight, I am excited for all the 4-H things that we have coming up. We have extended the Camp Clover registration until June 5 with the hopes of reaching our goal in numbers of campers. Cloverbud Day Camp registration is also approaching on June 7. We have a great group of youth and volunteers attending 4-H Exploration Days at MSU this year with two youth participating in State Awards.
I would like to invite everyone to attend the Clare County Board of Commissioners meeting on Wednesday, June 19, at 9am. Malachi Bear, Clare County 4-H youth, will be presenting about 4-H Capitol Experience which he attended in Lansing this spring. Malachi is on the agenda at 9:45am. This is an open meeting, so feel free to invite family and friends. This is also a great opportunity to see how a local government meeting works, meet our Board of Commissioners, and support one of our own 4-H youth. The meeting takes place at the Clare County Building Courthouse in Harrison.
I will be out of the office June 20 attending 4-H Exploration Days and June 24-27 for Camp Clover. Please contact the MSU Extension Office if you need anything during this time.

4-H SPIN Club Coordinator’s Message
June is upon us although I wonder if it’s really summer yet! Goat Yoga and Smile Rocks was
a huge success at the Farwell Farmer’s Market with much laughter and fun! Another Family
Fun Day is coming up in Lake George at the Hot Rods and Hot Dogs Car Show that includes a
Make It & Take It craft and painting Smile Rocks. Due to lack of interest, the Summer
Garden SPIN club and the Summer Sewing SPIN club have been canceled. The Sewing SPIN
club is being replaced by a 2-day Sewing 101 Day Camp in July. Home Alone 4-H SPIN
workshops are being offered in Leota and Temple in June. Stay tuned to newsletters, 4-H
Online, email updates and social media for updates and details!
My head is still SPINNING with ideas and I’d love input from volunteers and participants.
What programs would YOU like to see this summer? Give me a call or drop me an e-mail.
SPINever yours,
Maggie

2019 Michigan 4-H Mark of Excellence award winners Author: Betty Jo Krosnicki
Every year, counties across Michigan offer 4-H youth, ages 11 and 12, the opportunity to participate in Michigan 4-H State Awards’ 4-H Mark of Excellence essay contest. The essay theme is “Because of 4-H, I can…” and the youth referred to a variety of memorable experiences in their time as 4-H’ers.
As part of the contest, up to two 4-H youth essays from each country are selected to be recognized as award winners. In 2019, the following 37 4-H members from 26 counties were selected as the 2019 Mark of Excellence county winners.
Each recipient received a medal, and their winning essays were added to the Mark of Excellence history book at the Michigan 4-H Foundation and State 4-H Office at MSU Extension. The essays are also on display at the Kettunen Center in Tustin, Michigan. Congratulations to our winners!
