The fifty days from the Sunday of the Resurrection to Pentecost
Sunday are celebrated in joy and exultation as one feast day,
indeed as one "great Sunday." These are the days above all others
in which the Alleluia is sung.
On the fortieth day after Easter the Ascension of the Lord is celebrated, except
where, not being observed as a Holyday of Obligation, it has been assigned to
the Seventh Sunday of Easter.
The weekdays from the Ascension up to and including the Saturday before
Pentecost prepare for the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.

You are welcome to visit either parish church for individual private prayer:
St. Joseph Parish – 8:30am to 10:30am on Sundays.
Queen of Angels Parish – 11:30am to 1:30pm pm Sundays.
If you are sick, please stay home.
If you are vulnerable (>age 65; underlying health issues) please consider staying home.
Physical distancing and sanitation practices will be enforced.
Pews for individual private prayer will be limited to allow for social distancing.
Pews will be sanitized once the church is closed.
Individuals enter at their own risk.
If social distancing and sanitation practices are not observed we will be forced to close the
churches once again, so your cooperation is important.

THIS WEEK —LETTER FROM THE REG I ONAL ADMINISTRATOR
Jesus Christ, yesterday, today and forever!
I hope everyone has had a good week, and that you’ve ‘attended’ Mass online and taken some time for quiet prayer. Please
consider a daily Rosary for an end to the pandemic if you aren’t already praying one, and thank you to those who do! Last
weekend in the bulletin we featured the Chaplet of St. Michael and the prayer of the Angel of Fatima, two wonderful
devotions invoking the protection of the holy angels. This weekend we focus on the Holy Spirit and the solemnity of
Pentecost, essentially the culmination of the Easter Season and the blossoming of Jesus’ Great Commissioning. We’ve
included some special prayers in the bulletin this week; please consider praying them as an act of gratitude to God for
sending the Holy Spirit to us as a source of love and strength.
We’re all going to need lots of love and strength as we continue with the restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic. The
churches are open for private individual prayer on Sundays (see times listed in the bulletin). Please drop by for a visit with
Jesus if you are in the vicinity. Remember to maintain physical distancing and the sanitation practices we’ve put into effect.
Thank you so much to those who have donated disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer. These will be put to use during Sunday
visiting hours in the coming weeks; but we’ll also use them once we resume public Masses; so thank you very much for your
donations!
Speaking of resuming Masses, I’d like to bring you up to date with the status of things in our Archdiocese. No doubt you are
aware that parishes across the US and in our state are beginning to reopen. Governor Inslee, a few weeks ago, released his
priorities for re-opening the state, and his phased approach includes very tight restrictions. The Bishops of Washington have
been in communication with the Governor regarding the resumption of public Masses, and this past Wednesday 5/27,
Governor Inslee did make some concessions. So praise God for that. However, there is much to be done to prepare for re-
opening. We are being guided by an Archdiocesan task force which is working fervently to provide information and policies
to parishes as quickly as possible. The guidelines (18 pages) are comprehensive and complex; parishes must comply or they
may not re-open. One new requirement is that each parish develop a Covid-19 Exposure Control, Mitigation and Recovery
Plan (it’s in the works for our parishes); and this plan must be approved by the Archdiocese before we can begin implementa-
tion.
Suffice it to say that as soon as that Exposure Control plan is in place I will communicate it to the parishes. Be prepared for
very detailed rules regarding what it will take to start Masses back up again, and to be in attendance at them. Be prepared
too for when I begin to solicit your help, because it’s going to take all of us coming together to re-open the churches for public
Mass. EVERYONE can help: if you are in the state’s “vulnerable” category, homebound or elderly you can pray; if you are in a
non-vulnerable category you can help with some of the new roles that we’ll need to cover with volunteers. Training for every-
one will be a requirement! Again, more on all of this next week.
Know that things will not be what they were before March 11th, so please continue to surrender to this as best you can. For
now, let us continue to pray for an end to the pandemic, but especially for all those impacted by it: the sick and dying; the
dead; those stricken with fear; those feeling depressed or in anguish; those feeling isolated and alone; those who are angry.
Circling back around to the prayers in the bulletin: let’s each pray in a special way this coming week; let’s center our lives on
Jesus Christ and His Spirit of Love. Let’s live for the glory of God!

While we continue to uphold the guidelines for physical distancing out of love and care for everyone’s health, we encourage you to continue to think about ways you can preserve healthy social (virtual) proximity. Our families need to continue to be united socially for our emotional and spiritual health.
Upcoming Items:
Wednesday, June 3rd, we will recognize our 8th Grade Graduates with a graduation ceremony! We are reviewing the state guidelines and we look forward to being able to recognize our wonderful 8th grade class.
At this point, we do not know what the Fall brings. It is our hope that we can begin school in September in the classrooms.
We will keep you updated as we learn more information.

L E A R N I N G SUNDAY DEVOTIONS | A MEDITATION ON NE XT WEEK’S MASS READINGS
June 7, 2020 | The Most Holy Trinity
First Reading——The mystery we call God is both near and distant; both frightening and familiar. Moses understands and reacts to both divine realities. In awed reverence he bows before the Lord; but, trusting in God’s patience and restraint, he dares ask for forgiveness for his “stiff necked people” who have committed the great sin of idolatry. [Exodus 34:4-6,8-9]
Responsorial Psalm—“Glory and praise forever!” [Daniel 3:52-55]
Second Reading—These three verses end the Second Letter to the Corinthians. Like the part-ing words of a great pastoral leader, they appeal for right behavior and for peace within the community. The final sentence is familiar to us as the celebrant’s greeting at the start of Mass. Paul renders it as a parting blessing to strengthen his readers for the kind of life he has just exhorted them to live. “The grace of …. Jesus”—His saving love that brightened your dark moments; “the love of God”—that creative, life-giving love that sustained you through hard times; and “the fellowship of the Holy Spirit”—the Spirit’s healing action in the community that resolved conflicts and brought together divergent points of view. This short passage can inspire hope that with God’s help we can indeed “mend our ways.” [2 Corinthians 13:11-13]
Gospel—Here, Jesus speaks to Nicodemus and affirms the generosity of God’s love as mani-fested in God’s willingness to give “His only Son.” Although God’s purpose in sending Jesus is not condemnation, but eternal life, some people choose not to accept Jesus, and by their deci-sion bring condemnation on themselves. Yet God’s plan in sending His Son is that the whole world may believe in Him, living in a loving and faithful relationship with Him. Such belief will result in eternal life, beginning here and now and extending beyond death into eternity; it is God’s own life shared with believers. [John 3:16-18]

VENI, CREATOR SPIRITUS & PRAYER FOR UNITY One of the most widely used hymns in the Church, Veni, Creator Spiritus, is attributed to Rabanus Maurus; (776-856). It is used at Vespers, Pentecost, Dedication of a Church, Confirmation, and Holy Orders and whenever the Holy Spirit is solemnly invoked. A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who recite it. A plenary indulgence is granted if it is recited on January 1st or on the feast of Pentecost.

REFERENDUM 90 SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN:
R-90 is a referendum to reject or approve a new law requiring all state school districts to provide comprehensive
sexual health education for grades K-12. Thank you to all who took time these past two weekends to come out and
sign the petition requesting that they put R-90 on the state’s fall ballot so that we have a say in whether or not this
new law should be rejected. We gathered 232 signatures! Thanks be to God!
