Next-Generation Assessments that Enrich and Prepare StudentsResearch-based EvaluateTM assessments are aligned to specific state standards. Reading and math benchmark assessments for grades K–11 are administered up to 10 times a year and are scored immediately so that targeted interventions can be implemented right away.

NEW! Intuitive Platform for Beginning Students v Assessments specifically for Kindergarten and first-grade students

v Available three times per year

v Aligned to English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics end-of-year standards

Students enter their password, made up of two images.

To enhance comprehension, each item begins with a human-voice-recorded audio prompt that asks the question.

Some questions will allow students to have the answer, as well as the question, read to them. They can click on the Speech icon next to each answer to hear the answer read out loud.

Multi-Part: Multiple question types work together in a single question to challenge students’ understanding of complex concepts.

Drag-and-Drop: Students can drag images and drop them in the correct location to complete the question.

Clickable Text: Certain words or sentences in a reading passage are clickable, and one or more can be selected to answer the question.

Fill-in-the-Blank: Students type in short answers that are automatically compared against possible correct answer options.

Clickable Object: Similar to multiple-choice but far more engaging, the student selects images on the screen to answer the question.

Engage with Rich Graphics and Technology-Enhanced Questions EvaluateTM assessments employ graphic-rich technology-enhanced question types (TEQs) that challenge students to go beyond typical multiple-choice test items and interact with the question in a variety of engaging ways.

Graphing: Students can draw lines and plot points on an interactive graph to solve the question.

Accessibility Tools that AssistEvaluateTM accessibility tools enhance the experience of all students, especially those with visual, auditory, linguistic, or physical needs. Some or all of the accessibility features can be enabled based on district, school, and individual student needs and preferences.

Text-to-Speech: The system reads question text aloud, with options to stop, pause, and re-read selected words or the entire question. Visual cues automatically highlight the current sentence and word being read.

Highlighter: Choose between four different colors to highlight important parts of reading passages and word problems for easy reference when answering the question—or after the test while in review mode.

Notepad: Take notes while completing the test. Notes will be saved along with the test for access during review mode.

Calculator: For certain mathematics assessment questions, students can use embedded on-screen calculators (basic, scientific, graphing).

Magnify Tool: Quickly zoom in and out based on four pre-set levels.

Masking Tool: Available for students who need help focusing while reading a question, masking will highlight the text and block out the rest of the screen.

Contrast Tool: Use this tool to change color contrast and improve the visibility of text for students who need this accommodation.

Drag-and-Drop: Students can drag images and drop them in the correct location to complete the question.

Clickable Text: Certain words or sentences in a reading passage are clickable, and one or more can be selected to answer the question.

The Evaluate system provides the formative assessment that we need to support student learning. In addition to helping English and mathematics, it has brought our whole school together and has made us accountable to student data. The Evaluate system gives us the opportunity to have critical conversations to move students forward.

The variety of quick, easy-to-read reporting options embedded in the EvaluateTM system provides users with all of the information they need to adjust instruction, target intervention, and make decisions about resources.

v Real-time performance and proficiency data is accessible through actionable reports that drill down from the school to student level, by subject, strand, skill, and question. v Monthly reports allow teachers to adjust instruction and interventions as needed throughout the year, while longitudinal reports track progress over time. v Individual question analysis determines whether students

need support with a subject, skill, or their test-taking skills. v Data can be aggregated in multiple ways— by schools, standard, demographic groupings, or custom reporting—to effectively inform teachers how best to address skill gaps, while helping district administrators make important, informed decisions. v Threshold-based reporting helps administrators assess the success of their instructional programs, identify growth trends toward end-of-year goals, and determine skill areas in need of additional resources and support.

Empower Students with Personal Reporting Tools Students own their data and performance through access to reports by subject, skills, strand, and individual question. Students can: • Access results immediately and track their own progress • Identify knowledge gaps • Set personalized learning goals

Evaluate is quick, it’s fast, it’s easy. It’s helped us focus on our goals. When teachers saw they could get their results back immediately, they saw the power of using Evaluate.

– Diane Grant, Principal, Bennettsville Middle School, Bennettsville, SC”

Track More than Progress...

Professional development, training, and support are available to ensure seamless operation, and a dedicated Evaluate support line operates five days a week.

Data is reported in multiple ways to teach students how to read data from various sources.

Students can even track their progress monthly to better understand how they are progressing over time.

Conceptual Practice—Answer Key

I. (DOK Level 2)

Planning results will vary according to the topics students choose. The papers should not only be about the hobby itself but also its history. This activity gives students time to refine the topics for their research papers. Given the nature of the assignment, an appropriate scope for this paper is of the utmost importance, so students should be able to further develop their ideas as they continue their research.

II. (DOK Level 2)

Compiled source information will vary. Students should use MLA format for source citations.

Conceptual Practice

I. (DOK Level 2)

Have students begin planning their research papers. The paper should focus on a hobby or activity of interest to the students. The audience for the papers should be someone unfamiliar with the hobby, so students should devote part of their papers to defining vocabulary unique to the subject. The papers should not only be about the hobby itself but also its history.

II. (DOK Level 2)

Have students go to the library or computer lab to find appropriate sources for their papers. Students can use note cards to record and organize source information. Direct students to resources that will help them use MLA format for source citations. An MLA Citations worksheet template is provided.

Foundational Practice—Answer Key

I. (DOK Level 1)

Results of the brainstorming session will vary. The goal of this activity is to give students practice organizing their thoughts and ideas.

II. (DOK Level 1)

Results of the class discussion will vary. Sample answers include:

• It is important to introduce a topic rather than simply talking about it because you want to give the reader or listener some idea about what information you will be presenting. This will prepare them to receive the message you are trying to communicate.

• The most effective ways to introduce a topic are to use a quote, fact, statistic, or rhetorical question.• The least effective ways to introduce a topic are to simply state what you will be discussing and to ramble on without

any organization or preplanning.
