Part 1;Define the problem

Admit your role in the conflict or problem

• Don’t be phony• Avoid using terms like “always”, “never”,

and “none.”• Don’t assume your feelings are obvious to

the other person• Avoid using “you” statements• Avoid name calling• Talk about behaviors not attitudes

• Avoid mind-reading or second guessing• Be neutral in attitude rather than negative• Avoid threats, insults, or commands
