introduction

Along with sister company, Cooper & Turner,

the ‘group’ companies provide a true ‘one stop

shop’ in the manufacture, fabrication and

supply of industrial fasteners to the civil

engineering market with all of the cost and

control benefits that this management of the

whole supply chain brings.

Indeed, the companies have been at the

forefront of industrial fastener supply for more

than 160 years. The group continues to be a

leading authority in this market, both in the UK

and abroad, advising and developing innovative,

bespoke products to satisfy the exacting

requirements of the construction industry

The combination of a comprehensive product

range coupled with quality fastener

manufacturing and full product traceability has

meant that the McLean Buchanan & Wilson

name is both well known and trusted in this

demanding marketplace. Key to this is the

respect that the construction market holds for

the company’s range of added value services

that typically include - product picking,

shipping to challenging deadlines and

destinations and the ability

to trace key products

back to the

batch.

McLean Buchanan & Wilson is a well established UK company with an enviable pedigree

in the supply of industrial fasteners to the civil engineering and construction markets.

Civil Engineering Services

McLean Buchanan & Wilson provides a total

supply package to the civil engineering industry

delivering direct to sites throughout the UK

and abroad. The company has a particular

expertise in manufacture and fabrication along

with picking, packing and labelling of

comprehensive bolt lists, in construction

phases, and delivering against time-slot

schedules to rural and inner-city sites. Product

can also be supplied packed and labelled to

export standards with all of the necessary

completed documentation.

Packing Specifications

Following detailed feedback from some major

customers, McLean Buchanan &Wilson has

developed a number of packing specifications

and procedures specifically designed to aid civil

engineers. These systems have resulted in

tangible time and cost savings in the ever

tightening time demands of

construction projects.

Batch Traceability

All fasteners of grade 8.8 and above are totally

batch-traceable. The company has developed a

specialised stock control system that maintains

total lot-traceability by linking batch identity

numbers to despatch documentation and

customer orders.  Test certificates can be

supplied with goods and are retained for a

minimum of 10 years.

Innovation

McLean Buchanan & Wilson has worked hard

over recent years to develop services that are

of true value to the end user. A number of

additional services are therefore available to

the civil engineering market that are designed

to make the selection and use of these

products easier:

• ‘In house’ technical support

• Site visits

• Instruction in bolt tightening techniques

• Training seminars on all forms of bolting

Supplier Alliances

As part of the ‘one stop shop’ service offering

and in addition to ‘in house’ industrial fastener

manufacture and fabrication, McLean Buchanan

& Wilson has established a number of key

strategic alliances with specialist civil

engineering fixings suppliers. This enables the

company to offer a more comprehensive

product range and allows these specialist fixings

and fastenings to be delivered at competitive

prices and on a single bill of materials with all

of the benefits that this offers.

Special Finishes

Full range of products in a number of

alternative finishes suited to their individual

and specific use. These include:

• Electroplated zinc coatings to BS7371 part 3

• Hot dip galvanized coatings to BS7371 part 6

• Sherardized coatings to BS7371 part 8

• Mechanically Galvanized coatings to

ASTM B695

Square Square Hex Holding Down Bolt

The square square round hex holding down bolt can be

supplied in a range of sizes from M12 to M100 and is the

more modern approach for anchoring. The system would

typically comprise of a holding down bolt, a square plate

washer and either a metal or a wax cardboard bolt box.

The partnership of the bolt and square hole washer

prevents the bolt’s rotation during fixing. The bolt boxes are

commonly used to create a void around the bolt which

enables any minor adjustments to be made after the

concrete has set.

These can be fabricated as a complete assembly with

multiple bolts if necessary. Fabricated assemblies can also

be supplied with hexagon bolts or studs.

Specialist Drop Bolt or Removable T-Head assemblies can

also be manufactured for use with heavy machinery or plant.

Washer Plates

Washer plates are supplied to anchor the holding down

bolts into concrete. These plates come in varying sizes and

types ranging from single hole standard to multi hole

‘specials’ in either flat plate or angle.

The following products are just a selection of the range of fastenersand fixings geared towards the civil engineering market that McLeanBuchanan & Wilson can offer. In reality, the company can source or

specially manufacture all requirements in a wide range of sizes, gradesand finish. The products section is just intended to provide a cross

section of what’s available but is in no way intended to be exhaustive. holding down bolts

J Bolts/L Bolts

J Bolts and L Bolts can be manufactured and supplied for

use as holding down bolts. They can be connected to the

rebar cage as an alternative to the square square assembly.

Studs

Studs are most commonly used with injection resin

systems in masonry and concrete.

Fixings

McLean Buchanan & Wilson is a chosen distributor of the

industrial range of Fischer Fixing Systems. These include

chemical, mechanical interlock and undercut anchors.

Fischer currently leads the way in technical products

having gained more European technical approvals (eta)

than any other fixing manufacturer. Fischer provides a

range of first class technical services that include advice

on product selection, installation methods and offers

guidelines on the wide scope of product approvals and

building regulations.

Tie Rods can be manufactured in a vast range of sizes,

grades and finish for a multitude of applications.

Tie Rods are manufactured from the simple ‘anti-sag’

shuttering or ground stabilisation specifications to a

pre- stressing bar used in the tension zone so that the

concrete normally remains in compression under load

thus making the best use of material.

McLean Buchanan & Wilson offers a full range of end

fittings to cover all possible applications from a simple

bearing plate and nut to machined fork and pin

arrangements for architectural features. A range of couplers

can be supplied to complement the full range of bars.

and experience in the supplying of coach screws, track

bolts, holding down studs and a comprehensive range of

maintenance items that meet the exacting standards of

UK and global rail contracts.
