    September 2009

    Dear friend of CIU,

You can feel the energy and excitement in the air at Columbia International University! Ifyou could somehow transport yourself here, you could personally experience it. Ourdeans tried to figure out a way to package the enthusiasm on campus in order to put it inthe envelope along with this letter! Instead, Ill do my best to describe it in words.

First, as the 2009-2010 school year began, we experienced aheartwarming feeling as we watched upperclassmen in theUndergraduate School welcome the freshmen and makethem feel at home by helping them move into the resi-dence halls. After all, the first year of college can intimidateeven the most confident of young people. The CIUSeminary & School of Missions and the CIU GraduateSchool faculty and students also welcomed new students

ready to further their education for the work God calledthem to do.

But the excitement goes beyond the beginning of a newschool year. We find ourselves in the midst of a majorcampus expansion to accommodate future growth.Construction equipment daily weaves its way throughcampus developing the first phase of the project studenthousing for married and graduate students who currentlylive off campus. Living on campus more effectively inte-grates these students into campus life and affords themopportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship that

undergraduate students in the residence halls alreadyenjoy.

Another important piece of the campus expansion plan features the addition of athleticfacilities as we pursue membership in an intercollegiate sports association. The facilitiesalso open the possibilities for the Undergraduate School students to participate in a physi-cal fitness program, a long held value as many alumni can recall the P.E. points they wererequired to earn. We want our students and graduates fit to serve spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically.

The campus expansion plan also positions our campus infrastructure. Once we complete the currentsite development, we will have an area on which to construct future academic buildings to bettereducate our students.

In addition to the campus expansion project,we also had two of the residence hallsundergo major renovations. Crews workedhard in the South Carolina heat tocompletely modernize East Residence Halland add a new roof to West Residence Hall.

All of this construction generates an electricatmosphere on campus that touches notonly the students, faculty and staff, butSouth Carolina as well. Our expansionspurred quite of bit of media attentionstatewide.

God is also blessing us through faithfuldonors such as you. Despite a globalrecession, we once again finished the fiscalyear in the black.

One area that we ask you to continue topray about involves the upcomingDecember report from one of ouraccrediting agencies, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). At that timethey will inform us of their decision to reaffirm our accreditation, extending it for another 10years.

Our gratitude overflows for all Gods blessings. May we always be careful to give Him thepraise. It is not by our power that great things are happening at CIU, but the Spirit of Godwho enables Gods servants to do Gods work. As our CIU 2009-2010 year verse reminds us:

So he said to me, This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: Not by might nor by power, but bymy Spirit says the LORD Almighty. (Zechariah 4:6)

Rejoice with me in Gods provision for CIU through the prayers and financial generosity ofpeople like you. We will keep you updated throughout the school year as the excitementcontinues to sweep across campus. But better yet, visit the campus and experience it foryourself!

    Zechariah 4:6
