For this retail beverage project, I visited Grand Wine and Liquor store located in 30- 05 31st
street Astoria. I live in queens so the location was not far from where I live it took me about 18-
20 minutes by driving. When I enter the store I saw a big banner on the ceiling stating “75 years
of proudly serving Astoria”. They also have three TVs attached to the wall marketing Irish
whiskey for St Patrick day. I made an appointment before visiting the store, so I was assured
enough to be greeted by the manager Bob. Though he was busy assisting other customer, Bob
was still helpful and kind enough to answer all of my questions. Before joining the store, he took
Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) course which prolonged for 6 months. He also told me
that it is not necessary to take wine classes or any other beverage course in order to work in wine
store. There were altogether 6 employee working on Saturday including 2 managers.

2017 Moscato from Italy Lombardo Region 2016 Sparkling wine from Italy Veneto region
The store has a huge selection of wines and spirits from 25 distinctive countries. Gato Negro
Sauvignon Blanc from Chile was the lowest priced white wine in the store. While the most
expensive wine was 2005 Pinot Noir vintage Leroy Nuits St. Georges Les Boudots from
Burgundy region of France. The temperature of the store ranged from 50°- 55° Fahrenheit. Some
of the sparkling and white wines were stored inside the fridge for the customer tasting and. The
guest usually spends around $20-$25 in the store. Customer service can be seen as a one of the
benefit for this store because the staff are really helpful and friendly. They have their own mobile
app and also does free delivery for neighborhood. I also got moscato sweet dessert white wine of
Italy from the store even though I am not a big fan of wine this was perfect for the beginners like
me.
