Updates to Municipal CodeTree Regulations

Santa Barbara Municipal Code Title15 and 22 were amended to clarifyregulations regarding the removal or

significant alterations of trees.

In order to remove or prune beyondthe set limits for regulated trees, you

must get permission from theappropriate City Department or reviewbody

The tree is so weakened by age, disease,

American Society of Consulting Arborists or anarborist certified by the International Society ofArboriculture, AND

An authorized employee of the City Parks andRecreation Department assesses the condition of the

tree and approves the proposed work

The City Fire Department has ordered thepruning of the tree

A tree located in the front of a property withinthe distance set by the property zoning.

If more than 50% of the tree trunk,

measured at the highest natural gradeadjacent to the trunk, is within the frontsetback.
