GENERAL NOTES
1. SPECIFICATIONS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE NEW JERSEY DEPARTMENT OF
TRANSPORTATION STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR ROAD AND BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION,
2007 EDITION WITH 2014 SUPPLEMENTARY SPECIFICATION THERETO GOVERN.
2. ALL TRAFFIC CONTROL STIPULATIONS AND DETAILS MUST ADHERE TO THE
N.J.D.O.T.2001 STANDARD TRAFFIC CONTROL DETAILS AND M.U.T.C.D. REQUIREMENTS.
3. ALL STATE AID PROJECTS MUST CONFORM TO THE DESIGN STANDARDS FOR THE
AMERICAN WITH DISABILITIES ACT AND CURRENT DESIGN STANDARDS FOR BICYCLE
SAFETY.
4. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL DIMENSIONS AND EXISTING CONDITIONS IN THE FIELD
PRIOR TO THE START OF CONSTRUCTION. ANY ERRORS OR DISCREPANCIES SHALL BE
BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY
5. LOCATION OF EXISTING UTILITIES, WHERE SHOWN ARE APPROXIMATE AND MUST BE
VERIFIED IN THE FIELD PRIOR TO THE START OF CONSTRUCTION.
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL USE EXCAVATED MATERIALS FOR BACKFILL UNLESS
OTHERWISE DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.
7. ALL PAVED AND CONCRETE AREAS DISTURBED DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE
RESTORED TO A CONDITION AT LEAST EQUAL TO THAT WHICH EXISTED PRIOR TO THE
START OF CONSTRUCTION.
8. ALL GRASSED AREAS DISTURBED DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE REPLACED WITH
SOD. THERE WILL BE NO SEPARATE PAYMENT FOR SOD RESTORATION, BUT THE COST
FOR THIS WORK SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE VARIOUS PAY ITEMS IN THE PROPOSAL.
9. ALL FILL SHALL BE PLACED IN 12 INCH LAYERS AND THOROUGHLY COMPACTED TO THE
SATISFACTION OF THE ENGINEER. IF BORROWED FILL IS REQUIRED, IT SHALL BE CLEAN
GRANULAR SOIL AND IT SHALL BE SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE ENGINEER.
10. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOCATION AND PRESERVATION OF
UNDERGROUND AND SURFACE UTILITIES AND STRUCTURES AT OR ADJACENT TO THE
SITE OF CONSTRUCTION AND IT SHALL BE AT HIS OWN EXPENSE TO REPAIR OR
REPLACE ANYTHING THAT HE DAMAGES. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
UTILITY MARKOUT.
11. A BASELINE HAS BEEN PROVIDED ON THE PLANS AND ESTABLISHED IN THE FIELD. IT
SHALL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO LOCATE THE CONSTRUCTION LINE IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE BASELINE AND CONSTRUCTION LINE AS SHOWN ON THE PLAN.
12. SEPARATE PAYMENT WILL NOT BE MADE FOR PAVEMENT EXCAVATION & REMOVAL, BUT
THE COST OF THIS WORK SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE PAYMENT FOR THE VARIOUS
ITEMS OF WORK LISTED IN THE PROPOSAL.
13. SEPARATE PAYMENT WILL NOT BE MADE FOR SAW CUTTING CONCRETE, TEMPORARY
PAVEMENT LINES, CLEARING OF THE SITE, REMOVAL & DISPOSAL OF EXCESS
MATERIALS OR UNWANTED MATERIALS OR DEBRIS.
14. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVAL OF ALL EXCESS MATERIAL FROM
THE JOB SITE.
15. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CONSTRUCTION LAYOUT OF THE
PROJECT.
16. SEPARATE PAYMENT WILL NOT BE MADE FOR THE REMOVAL OF EXISTING CONCRETE
CURB, SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS, OR OTHER MISCELLANEOUS IMPROVEMENTS. THE
COST OF THIS WORK SHALL BE INCLUDED UNDER THE VARIOUS PAY ITEMS IN THE
PROPOSAL.
17. CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE LOCATIONS OF ALL UTILITIES BOTH HORIZONTALLY
AND VERTICALLY PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION AND NOTIFY THE ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY,
PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION, OF ANY CONFLICTS OR DISCREPANCIES WHICH EXIST.
18. EXISTING ROOF DRAINS WHICH PROJECT THROUGH CURBS ARE TO REMAIN AND NEW
CONCRETE CURB AND SIDEWALK SHALL BE POURED AROUND EXISTING ROOF DRAINS.
19. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE ALL UTILITY RELOCATION'S AS REQUIRED WITH THE
APPLICABLE UTILITY COMPANIES.
20. PAVING FOR THIS PROJECT WILL BE DONE IN TWO (2) SEPARATE LIFTS. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL USE STABILIZED BITUMINOUS BASE COURSE, MIX 19M64 AS A BASE
COURSE. THE FINAL PAVING WILL BE DONE WITH A LIFT OF BITUMINOUS CONCRETE
SURFACE COURSE, MIX12.5M64 WITH A NOMINAL THICKNESS OF 2" TO REACH FINAL
GRADES.
21. THERE WILL BE NO SEPARATE PAYMENT FOR THE ELEVATIONAL ADJUSTMENTS OF
WATER VALVE BOXES AND METERS, SANITARY CLEAN OUTS, SPRINKLER HEADS, GAS
VALVES, OR ANY OTHER STRUCTURES ENCOUNTERED THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH
THE INSTALLATION OF CONCRETE CURB, DRIVEWAYS, AND SIDEWALK. THE COST FOR
THIS WORK SHALL BE INCLUDED IN THE VARIOUS ITEMS IN THE PROPOSAL.
22. WHEN INSTALLING CONCRETE SIDEWALK BEHIND THE CURB THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL SAW CUT THE EXISTING CONCRETE SIDEWALK IN LINE WITH THE LANDSCAPE
STRIP WHEN NO JOINTS EXIST.
23. ALL ELEVATIONS SHOWN ARE BASED UPON NGVD 1988 OR AS NOTED.
24. ENGINEER MAY REVISE PIPE INVERTS AND LOCATIONS DURING CONSTRUCTION TO
AVOID OR LIMIT UTILITY CONFLICTS. CONTRACTORS RESPONSIBILITY TO VERIFY
INVERTS WITH TEST PITS, PRIOR TO ORDERING PRECAST JUNCTION BOXES, INLETS OR
MANHOLES.
25. RESETTING OF BELL TELEPHONE MANHOLE CASTINGS IF REQUIRED, SHALL BE
PERFORMED BY THE TELEPHONE COMPANY. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE AND
