Griffin Powers Linecrew has been tremendouslybusy working on the Kentucky Data Link (KDL)

project. This project began in January of thisyear and was completed in mid August. Theproject consisted of changing out poles in sev-eral areas within the city such as S. Hill Street,Solomon St., Experiment St., and 14th Street. These streets were closed temporarily duringearly morning and afternoon hours as crews be-gan to replace old poles with new ones.

In addition to completing the KDL Project, theLinecrew installed new Automatic Switches atSpalding Regional Medical Center. In the eventthe hospital experiences an outage the automat-ic switches will open and transfer the hospital toan alternate circuit within 12 seconds. This less-ens the outage time and ensures the hospitalthat during an outage they can still fully functionamidst the circumstances

The City of Griffins recycling rate dropped to 16%last month, while the amount of garbage going tothe landfill soared to 84%. This is the lowest therecycling rate has been since the inception of the

recycling program in 2007. Every item diverted fromthe landfill helps the City to control costs and savein disposal fees. We need your help.

Make a commitment to recycle more and trash less.Every little bit helps.

    Holliday Exhibit opening soon

Through a generous grant from the Georgia Humani-ties Council, the City of Griffin will soon be opening a

The new exhibit will explore Docs life, while trying todifferentiate the man from the myth and the movies. It will also note Griffin locations associated with DocHolliday.

The reveal and ribbon cutting will be in late October,to coincide with Doctober Days. Be on the lookoutfor details!

Will Stevens is the Senior Ground Lineman for the Griffin-Spalding County Airport (GSA). His job, on the surface may seemroutine, but he helps to ensure the safety of the pilots, crews andpassengers that pass through the GSA each year. His duties arevaried and they include but are not limited to airport vehicle, fueldelivery system, and navigational aid maintenance. He ensuresthe Air Methods Life Flight operation and the Spalding County

Sheriffs Department Aviation Unit have the fuel and deliveryequipment they need to conduct their respective public safetymissions. And when the ancient equipment that he maintainsdoes eventually falter, even if at 2:30 am, he responds to providerepairs and/or alternate resources ensuring their primary missionis unaffected. Will routinely saves the airport valuable time andmoney by figuring out ways to correct problems that arise withoutgoing to outside vendors or contractors for costly repairs. He hasrepeatedly repaired the numerous airport vehicles and equipment. On the occasion when repairs do require outside help, on his owninitiative, he coordinates repairs and service with other agenciesor departments to resolve the problem.

Will also maintains the aviation fueling systems ensuring their continued operation. Regardless of weather conditions hemonitors the supply levels and initiates re-supply at predeterminedre-supply points through the airports aviation fuel vendor. Willcontinuously monitors and conducts daily, weekly and monthlyquality assurance checks on the fuel within the GSA system.

Will is a valuable member of the GSA team. His contributions arekey in the overall success of conducting and accomplishing our mission in providing the safest and most efficient airport facilitypossible.

Here are some simple reminders for drivers:

Slow down and be especially alert in theresidential neighborhoods and school zones

Take extra time to look for kids at intersections,on medians and on curbsEnter and exit driveways and alleys slowly andcarefullyWatch for children on and near the road in themorning and after school hoursReduce any distractions inside your car so youcan concentrate on the road and your surroundings. Put down your phone and donttalk or text while drivingMotorists are reminded to stop both ways for school buses loading or unloading studentsand watch for students walking to and frombus stops.

While there is plenty of Back-to-School safety ad-vice to keep in mind, some of the most importantips tell us how to travel safely near school buses

when theyre picking up or dropping off students. This is so important! Georgia law tells us what to dowhen a school bus activates its swing-arm stop sign

nd red flashing lights: Obey the Stop Arm.

If theres a median between the traffic travelingin opposite directions, only vehicles traveling inthe same direction as the school bus arerequired to stop when the bus stops. But if no median is present between trafficlanes heading in opposite directions, drivers onboth sides of the roadway must stop when aschool bus activates its swing-arm stop signand red flashing lights to load or unload

passengers.Passing is prohibited on either side of a schoolbus during passenger pick-up or drop-off.
