Problem

The twin Highway 401 Cornwall Centre Road overpass bridges were constructed in the early 1960’s.

These bridges have service lives of 50 - 70 years. The bridges have reached the end of their service life

and will need to be rehabilitated or reconstructed. Temporary measures have been implemented by MTO

as a safety precaution.

Recommended Plan

The study team recommends Alternative 1A’ as the preferred alternative.

The plan includes: Two open-footing rigid frame bridges to carry Highway 401 traffic over

Cornwall Centre Road; 2-stage construction maintaining 2 lanes of Highway 401 traffic in each

direction; Highway 401 detour through the construction zone constructed north of

existing alignment within MTO right-of-way; New bridge includes provisions for pedestrians and cyclists on Cornwall

Centre Road; Temporary closure of the north to west Highway 401 on-ramp. Temporary signals at the Brookdale Avenue interchange north ramp

Next Steps

Following this meeting we will: Review all comments from the public and agencies; Consider comments received; Conduct briefing meetings with affected external agencies, interest groups

and property owners; Prepare a Recommended Plan; Present recommendations to Township of South Stormont and City of

Cornwall; and Upon completion of the study, a Transportation Environmental Study

Report will be available for a 30 -day public review and comment. Notices will be published at that time.
