Coming this October 21-23, the inaugural Breitling Huntington Beach Airshow will be the only beachfront airshow on the West Coast, and the first airshow held in Huntington Beach, California, in more than 20 years.

Thousands are expected to attend to see first-hand the jaw-dropping jet stunts of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the Breitling Jet Team. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds perform an impressive hour-long demonstration featuring sharply choreographed routines that show F-16 Fighting Falcons wingtip to wingtip and give the crowd a glimpse of the exacting skills and capabilities possessed by these accomplished fighter pilots.

A Successful US Open!

Another Vans US Open of Surfing has come and gone with a

successful ending. Thank you to all the officers who worked long,

hard hours ensuring a safe and fun event. This was another year

of families and sports-oriented crowds. Officers took a “no toler-

ance” approach to alcohol-related violations. All problems and

arrests were handled quickly and without incident. Movie nights

invited people sit back, relax and wind down after busy day. We

would also like to thank the partnership with IMG and Vans in

helping to make this year another great event to attend.

Online Film Permits Now Available!

Film permitting for productions in Huntington Beach is now available online 24 hours-a-day. The launch of “FilmApp Huntington Beach,” the City’s new, online film permit service has helped move Huntington Beach further into the world of providing additional efficient online services. FilmApp streamlines and simplifies the film permitting application process for productions of all types. The applicant can submit their entire application electroni-cally, and will ensure the City’s receipt of detailed and clear information for staff to utilize in the review and permitting process. It also allows returning productions to fill out applications rapidly due to the company’s information stored in the system. The City is proud to launch this online service, which was developed with the use of an outside vendor and input from a variety of production companies doing business in Huntington Beach. The page is accessible via the City’s website at http://www.huntingtonbeachca.gov/business/film_permits/ or directly at http://app.apply4.com/Filmapp/usa/HuntingtonBeach. For more information about film permits in general or for as-sistance with using FilmApp, please contact our Film Permitting staff in the Office of Business Development at (714) 536-5547.

Waves of Valor Special thanks to those that were able to make it out to support the Waves of Valor in HB. There were a total of 39 veterans representing all of our military branches who came out to catch some waves. These veterans who served from Vietnam to the War on Terror were looking for a temporary feeling of freedom from their lifelong disability. The event organizers, Team Red White and Blue, did an outstanding job ensuring everybody had a great time. We are looking forward to their next event in September as it is such a great feeling to give back to those who have sacrificed everything for us. BIG THANK YOU goes out to our Marine Safety Division for securing the beach wheelchairs and having expert water safety in the water, it gave everybody a sense of comfort.

Children and Fire Children playing with fire cause hundreds of deaths and injuries each year. Preschoolers and kinder-gartners are most likely to start these fires, typically by playing with matches and lighters, and are most likely to die in them. If you suspect your child is intentionally setting fires or unusually fascinated with fire, get help. Contact the Huntington Beach Fire Department at 714-536-5411. For more information, please visit the Na-tional Fire Protection Association at www.nfpa.org
